Welcome to Coolsville, the best little small town in Ohio. β¦except for right now, but thatβs not really JANE 'DUSK' MORGAN'S (SOPHIE THATCHER) fault, is it? Known as the CATALYST around town, SHE is just your friendly neighborhood BARTENDER. Sure they can be SHORT TEMPERED and REBELLIOUS, but they can also be PROTECTIVE and CREATIVE just like any other TWENTY FOUR year old. That doesnβt mean they have anything to do with our string of recent chilling events, thoughβ¦ right? [pinterest. playlist.]

HISTORY {TW: Mentions of Abuse, PTSD, and Alcoholism}
jane morgan, named after her paternal grandmother, was the eldest daughter to daniel and amber morgan. she had only known stability for the first six years of her life, until her father was honorably discharged from active duty and returned back to the states to work as a contractor. due to her father's position in the US army, jane spent the majority of her life as the new girl. they never stayed in one location for long, often moving every other year or so, whenever her father's contract was up.
by the time she entered her fifth school in five years, jane realized there was no use in getting close to anyone that wasn't your family. it was pointless. after all, she was just going to leave again, and any friends she made would soon forget her. but it wouldn't hurt any less. when she moved to a new state in the middle of sixth grade, she told them all she was from another country. seventh grade, she told them she was actually madonna's long lost daughter. eight? she was a witch. and so on and so forth. the lies were easy, and fun, and kept anyone from truly knowing her. high school was when she stopped going by jane, and started going by dusk. how would they ever know you if they didn't even know your name?
the only person dusk was truly close to, was her younger sister abigail - abby as she called her. dusk suspects abby was an attempt to save a decaying marriage, and unfortunately for them all, it didn't work. when your father was suffering from an alcohol addiction that was due to severe ptsd, there wasn't much you could do. maybe therapy, if her father believed in it. which he didn't. so when the alcohol made him mean, dusk became the protector that abby needed. the protector her mother couldn't be.
music was the only outlet for dusk. a place to escape, and a way to say what was attempting to claw it's way out of her chest. the drums came naturally, one music teacher called her gifted, but really dusk could just feel the music.
it was the only passion she had. school was uninteresting. high school specifically. full of people who didn't bother to try to get to know dusk once she started wearing all black, or made a comment about their pointless and frivolous interests. she graduated high school with honors, only because she was good at it. she went to community college and got her associates degree in arts, but really... she couldn't find something that interested her long term. aside from the idea of making music full time. it didn't seem possible, so she stowed it away for later.
perhaps it was getting her degree and doing something with her life that inspired her mother to do something about the shit life they were living, but one night she came into dusk's room and told her to pack a bag with whatever she couldn't leave behind. suddenly the morgan woman where packing up five bags into the car in the middle of the night and escaping the man dusk once called her father.
coolsville was where they ended. the town her mother was raised in, where grandparents (that dusk had never met) lived with more wealth and privileged she could've ever imagined. it seemed the reason for the silence from her maternal grandparents was because they effectively disowned her mother when she married her father. apparently he "wasn't good enough for her, and wouldn't make anything of himself". dusk hated to admit it, but they were right. now that the morgan women are back in town, her grandparents have extended their hands to help, but it comes with a price.
there was always a catch, though. dusk, her mother and sister could live with her grandparents in their big house, with all the money one could want, but only if they followed her grandparents wishes. became dolls for them to dress up and play with. her sister abby had no issues doing as she was asked. why not when she suddenly had money and status and privilege she never did before? her mother hesitated at first, but eventually succumbed. dusk said fuck you. you couldn't buy her love, so instead of moving back in with her grandparents in their giant mansion like her mother and sister, she found a trailer for herself in the grandview mobile home. makes money working at music store by day, bartending at night. she wasn't swimming in money, but she was happy with her life.
that all changed a few weeks ago when her little sister went missing. their relationship had become strained ever since they moved to coolsville, due to dusk's inability to allow her grandparents influence, and abby's ability to become their puppet. but now she was gone, and dusk was a mess of emotions. mostly guilt, maybe if she had just sucked it up and not said fuck you to her grandparents, she would've been closer to abby the last few months and could've seen any signs that things were going to go wrong. while her mother had all but made her peace with the worst possibility, dusk was determined to find her sister.
unfortunately, the best resources around were her grandparents. so after years of rejecting their attempt to control her, dusk has entered the vipers den. she sold her trailer, dyed her hair, has begun dressing differently and going to family events just to make sure she has access to any and every resource the morgan's can allow her to find her sister.
TLDR: because of her father's job in the army, she moved around frequently and never really allowed herself to set roots anywhere, or get close to anyone. her sister being the only one she's deeply close to. as a result of his ptsd, dusk's father became an abusive alcoholic, often taking his frustrations out on his family. dusk, her mother and sister ran away in the middle of the night and settled in coolsville, the town her mother grew up in. it turns out her mother's parents are incredibly wealthy, and will share that wealth for control over the morgan women. her sister and mother agreed, while dusk said no and found her own way, working two jobs to afford a little trailer on the edge of town. but recently her sister has disappeared and dusk finally succumbed to her grandparents wishes and control, has become everything they want her to be, in order to have every available resource at her fingertips to find her missing sister.
CHARACTER TRAITS
positive: protective, creative negative: short tempered, rebellious
HEADCANONS
dusk was taught by her father how to shoot a gun from a very young age. she's a great shot, even if she doesn't like the feeling of holding such a deadly weapon in her hands. but because of her impeccable aim, she's been holding the top spot at space invaders in every arcade of every town she's lived in.
dusk isn't sure what she wants out of life, or who she wants to be. she says it's because she doesn't care, but the truth is, she's been lying about who she is for so long, she's not even sure she know's herself anymore. music is the only constant, but she's so grounded in reality that she knows trying to make any money out of that is unrealistic.
dusk has never had a real relationship. plenty of hook ups and casual flings that last a week or two. but due to how often she moved around when she was younger, and her inability to let people get close to her, she refused to make that sort of deep connection with someone.
dusk moved to coolsville with her mother three years ago, and still hasn't made many close connections outside of a select few (her band mates).
dusk continued to use her father's last name if only to keep her linage to her grandparents a secret. she does not want the few friends she's made know she is related to the most affluent family in town.
she has been living with her grandparents for two weeks, and the first thing they demanded was that she fix her hair. the bleach blonde shag she had rocked for years was dyed back to her natural brunette, extensions were added to give her length and allow her to look more like a lady. the second thing they changed were her clothes. no more black, mostly shades of pastel. she feel's like a walking doll, but refuses to complain until after abby is found.
CONNECTIONS
the little sister. abigail morgan. {+}. not to be dramatic, but abigail is dusk's whole world. she had always been reserved and distant to the other kids around her growing up, fearful of getting to close when she eventually left. but she never had to worry about that with abby, and she put every ounce of love she had into her little sister. so the distance that built since moving back to coolsville was a nightmare. abby going missing was even worse. dusk is determined to find her.
the beauty. beatrice bracknell. {+/-}. dusk and bea don't really know much about each other, except that they go to the same church. when dusk's mom moved to coolsville, she found god in the church that bea's father is the pastor of. so the two often cross paths in the girls bathroom when they need a break during the weekly sermon. recently, dusk has started offering bea a cigarette behind the building, but that's the extend of any relationship between the town.
the brains. darcy warren. {+}. there's something about darcy and drew dusk to her. she was smart and seemed to have her life together, but she clearly needed a bit of help when it came to standing up for herself. dusk, never one to stand by and let someone get ran over, has no problem sticking up for darcy until she learns to do it for herself.
the enigma. tba. {}.
the heir. tba. {+/-}. tba
the leader. scott bishop. {+/-}. scott is exactly the kind of guy that dusk hated in school. mr. perfect. has the world wrapped around his finger and just has to shoot someone a perfect smile and they'll do whatever he says. of course, there's more to him, but she hasn't taken the time to move past her own judgement in order to see who he really is. instead, she's keeps to her assumptions, not giving scott the time of day to break them.
the loner. rosette espinoza. {+}. rosie is probably the first best friend dusk has ever had. the two met when rosie's band advertised their need for a drummer and dusk immediately called to audition. they got along quickly, and for the first time in her life, dusk didn't try to pull back when she began to like someone. if dusk isn't home or working, she's probably with rosie.
the peacekeeper. eddie mariano. {+}.
