The fact that we catch Maekar in a tense situation, but if you pay attention he’s a good dad… he believes his sons can change (before reaffirming it to himself more firmly but that’s understandable), he personally goes out to find them, he is clearly pissed off at aerion’s terrible behaviour and tries to discipline him (are you hiding? Why not slay the rogue yourself?) and when Aerion keeps bratting he gets mad. Calls him an idiot. But fights for him anyway, and even though he is CLEARLY disappointed he still clearly loves him, yelling “MY BOY!” as Aerion gets hit.

He stays in his room as he’s recovering even though he started what lead to the death of Baelor. And when he sees egg trying to kill him, he understands. And just gently stops him with a hug.

“He’s my last son” as he’s almost tearing up. Maekar Targaryen they could NEVER make me think you are a bad dad. The bratting is demure

Imagine you have four sons but the eldest is a drunk who can't fight, the third is a nerd, and the fourth is a weird peasant-loving egg. So you place all your hopes and ambitions on your second son. He can fight and is strong and is most like you, but unfortunately he's also a deranged psychopath :/ But he's still your baby boy so you love him and will do anything to keep him safe. So when he does something stupid (again) and demands a trial of seven, you're upset, but you're not going to let your son be killed!!! You're going to fight alongside him, protect him, and kill whoever wants to harm him. But then your brother, whom you love so much but also resent because he's just so fucking perfect and kind and handsome and beautiful (ugh), fights against you and your son. And during the fight, you're thinking of nothing but your son's safety, it's chaos, you're wildly swinging your mace, trying desperately to reach him, you can hear his screams of pain. By the end of it, your beloved brother is dead. And they tell you that you're the one who killed him. Your son is safe, but now you can't even look at him the same way again. He caused this situation with his violent uncontrollable behavior, your brother was right all along. You killed your brother to protect your son and now you're broken. You love your son so much but you can't bear the pain of looking at him anymore. So you send him far away, hoping he'll change his ways for the better and stop hurting people. But he doesn't understand why his father is sending him away, do you want him gone? Do you hate him? Why are you doing this father? Don't you love him?? Yes you do. You always will. He's your baby.

He had fed the dragon within Aerion until it grew large enough to consume the boy entirely.
