”I didn’t think you’d show up.” Steve took a drag of his cigarette as he leaned against the brick wall overlooking the Hawkins community pool.

“You do remember I work here, right?” Billy’s just teasing. Unlike everyone else seems to, he doesn’t think Steve is stupid. He might say or do stupid shit sometimes but who doesn’t say their age?

“So what did you wanna talk about, Harrington?”

“Hardly, but thank you.” Steve chuckled softly against his lips. His hands gently rubbing Billy’s sides as they kissed. He never thought he would find himself in this position, but he was quickly realizing he didn’t really regret it either.

He hummed contently as he continued to kiss him. His arms keeping him close to his chest. “I think you’re the perfect one.” Steve mumbled against his lips.

His cheeks warmed from the compliment and he laughed softly. “Oh did I? Good to know.” Steve smiled stroking Billy’s face gently. It was risky being out here like this with him, but they were kind of out of view so he wasn’t too worried.

“I could just keep kissing you all night, beautiful.” He chuckled softly and leaned in kissing his lips again. Steve stepped backward toward a bench that was more out of view. Sitting down, he pulled Billy down onto his lap not breaking the kiss at all. His arms staying around his waist.

He wasn’t as sure, but he went with it anyway. His arms slid around his waist pulling him closer. Steve groaned lightly when he felt the nibble. His lips parting allowing the kiss to deepen a little.

When the need for air arose, he reluctantly broke the kiss resting his forehead against Billy’s forehead gently. “I’m kicking myself for not kissing you sooner. That was incredible.”

Even the way he crinkled his nose was cute. Steve needed to get a hold of himself though. His face lit up when Billy gave him permission. He still found himself hesitating a little.

“I’ve never kissed a guy before so, uh, I’m sorry if it’s a bad kiss.” He warned him with an awkward chuckle then cradled his face gently. Leaning in, he gently pressed his lips against the other man’s lips. It was different, but a good different.

“I think the bat had less to do with me and more to do with Max finally standing up for herself. Yeah maybe a little impossible, but it’s the truth.” Steve smiled at him. “Yeah I know. I have my dumb moments though.”

He shrugged his shoulders again. “Huh. I never thought I’d see you blush. It’s cute.” Steve gazed at him fondly then smiled when he hid his face. “Can I, uh, kiss you?”

“Yeah you have.” He smiled at him. “I appreciate that.” Steve nodded his head then moved closer to him. “Is it really that unbelievable that I would be interested in you?” His brows raised at him. “I’m not that much of a catch. I’m too stupid to get into college. I have a lot of emotional baggage.” His shoulders shrugged then he reached out cupping Billy’s face with his hand.

His thumb stroking his cheek gently. “I am interested in you, Billy.” Steve admitted with a soft smile.

Steve nodded his head believing him. As far as he knew, Billy had never actually followed through with his flirtations. His eyes widened a little at his confession. “Oh. Wow. You’re really convincing with the chicks.”

He paused for a moment. “Wait are you calling me a pretty boy?” He chuckled at him. “Look, your secret is safe with me.” Steve assured him. “So does that mean I have a chance?”

His brows raised at that and he couldn’t help chuckling softly. “You calling yourself a bitch now, Hargrove?” Steve asked smirking playfully at him. “I remember when you first started working here. It was my last season here. I hated how you would flirt with the moms and, well, everyone. I could never understand why.”

Steve shook his head and smiled softly. “A good friend told me that it’s okay to like both. I’m still coming to terms with it, but I’m not going to deny that I’m very attracted to you.” It was probably the most vulnerable he had ever been talking to him.

They had both been trying to protect Max that night in their own ways. It wasn’t like Steve could have told him the truth that night about why Max had been there. He didn’t think Billy would have believed them at all.

Steve rubbed at the back of his neck chuckling softly at him. “I don’t know about that. Doesn’t get me many dates anymore.” He was still wrapping his head around the idea that it was okay to like both sides. Steve knew he still liked girls, but he also knew that he liked Billy.

“Well, hate is a pretty strong word.” His shoulders shrugged. “Apology accepted.” At least he was trying to make amends and fix things. Steve could respect that much.

He chuckled flushing a bit at his comment. “I’m no King Steve and you took that title the moment you moved here.” Steve teased smirking softly at him. “King Steve would have made you earn that title.” He winked at him. It was weird yet pretty nice to actually be getting along with Billy for once.

“It’s night time.” He teased back with a slight chuckle. Steve finished his cigarette then put it out. He then sighed softly running his fingers through his air. “I don’t think you and I ever got off on the right foot. You were either being an asshole or I was trying to protect Max.”

He glanced over at Billy. “Although I’m pretty sure you were totally flirting that time in the gym showers. Look, what I’m trying to say is let’s call a truce.”

“Sometimes I lock up.” Which is true but he didn’t work at all today. He came because he’s as eager as Steve to fix the bad blood between them. He’s just not that good at talking things out. “I pretty much antagonized right from the starting gate so I don’t blame you for hating me. But with Max? I know what it looked like but I was trying to protect her, too. It wasn’t a good night and it would take a lot to explain the situation.”

“Caught on to that, did you?” Billy leaned against the wall and looked up at the night sky. “I’d been wanting to apologize for shit anyway, so yeah, truce.”

He rolled his eyes at him playfully. “I never said I hated you.” Steve chuckled softly at him. “Yeah I know you were trying to protect her in your own twisted way. She mentioned you guys have been talking things out. I’m glad.”

“Well it’s not every day I get flirted with in the showers by the hottest guy in Hawkins.” Steve teased then nodded his head. “Good. Glad we got that settled.” He paused for a moment. “I never hated you. I can’t get you out of my head.”
