This was my favorite cow last summer. Very sweet, very curious. When I was photographing her herd she stopped by to greet me or get her head scratched multiple times per session.

One time she followed me down to a little beach where I took some photos of her. When we were done we climbed back up to the meadow where her herd was. And the herd was gone. I knew they went just around the corner, some 15 meters away, but I feared right away that she wouldn’t understand where they went. And I was right. I saw the panic in her eyes and tried in vain to calm her and lead her to the other cows.

She ran off in the opposite direction, into a little forest.

I walked to the other cows with pain in my stomach, and then I saw her coming out of the forest far away, still running. I didn’t understand why she didn’t moo. This was the perfect time to use her voice. But the other cows knew that something was wrong. They were on high alert.

So I began to call her and clap in my hands to let het know where we were. Then she saw us she ran toward us. I never saw a cow run so fast.

When she reached us there were three cows that immediately went to her, rubbed against her and comforted her. That was so sweet and beautiful to see, and she was so relieved and happy to be with the others again. A wonderful sight.

Cows are even more sensitive and have more communication than I thought.
