PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE TOP PART OR THE CREDITS
I see people get confused about legs (especially about birds), thinking ankles are knees or strange things like that. So I did a quick and super simplified comparative anatomy guide for a few kinds of vertebrates! I left out reptiles because… meh, maybe next time. People get less confused about them
Next I’ll do one post all about birds and how they have the same bits as us because vertebrates are basically all just weird looking versions of the same thing
Fun fact about me: my first job in uni was drawing pictures for a textbook! It was super fun but didn’t pay much.

Color palette tutorial time!
This is by no means the Only Way To Pick Colors—it’s just a relatively-simple method I use sometimes. I’ve found it works pretty well, almost regardless of what colors you pick—as long as you can keep them organized by those light/dark warm/cool categories, and make sure one category takes up a significantly higher proportion of page space, it usually turns out pretty good!
I struggled with color for a long time before eventually reaching this conclusion, and here it is all laid out nicely for you lucky people by the talented and Eisner-nominated Melanie Gillman. So listen to them!

I made a walkthrough of my process for drawing faceted stones! Judging by the timestamps from the screenshots I took, drawing this one stone took an hour and three minutes, although I know I went and checked tumblr a couple times while I was working, so let’s just call it an hour.
Now MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
This walkthrough assumes you already know how to use layer masks, the clone stamp, and the lasso tool. There’s also one part where I didn’t label it, but I inverted the selection so I could keep my lines consistent. It’s in the third image.
Unfortunately I can’t really help with colour choice and the actual colouring of the pinwheel shape that makes up the back facets, but you can kind of see that I tended to colour with lines that cut across the facets and and kept the outer parts of the facets darker. It would probably be best to find a reference to work from!
This particular cut of stone is called the ‘brilliant’ cut.
There’s actually a lot of internal reflection business that goes on in a stone, but I elected to ingore all of it since at a distance you can’t really tell anyway.

ive been asked a few times how i draw back-views, especially for character sheets so i wanted to share a little trick I learned a while back that’s really really helpful especially if you’re used to drawing things from the front and need help getting the proportions right from the back view.
You don’t ALWAYS have to do this the way that I do; The only reason I put effort into the front view is because this is going to be a character sheet and I need the front view to be fleshed out.
But alternatively; Just sketch out a sillhouette, then fill it in on a higher layer.
Sorry if someones already done this before im just answering a frequently asked question ;w;
small tutorial for newbies to anatomy :) hopefully this is understandable and helpful !
