The One That Got Away

Dead drifting. Watching. Hit! Getting the strike on a dropper zebra midge nymph on 6x tippet is an adrenaline rush in itself. But thinking (and hoping) that this could be your personal best to date is indescribable. Slowly stripping the line while giving the trout some slack line takes concentration. While trying not to disturb the healthy pool of feeding fish and wanting to get your hands on him, is a deliberate execution in many retrieves. The active fish jumping through the surface of the stream plotting it's escape, makes this even more thrilling. Then it happens. The good-sized brown throws the hook and swims away quickly out of sight. The rush only lasted seconds, but the agony of "defeat" can last much longer. The only thing left to do at this point is shake it off and hopefully catch some more fish. - DWP

John Gierach has truly spoken to me through his writing. We both share the love for fly-fishing and having a good time, with good friends at the same time. There are so many great lessons in his narratives and I will gladly keep reading through his work. Time to move onto “All Fishermen are liars”…

Roll Casting into Writing

Fly Fishing is a relatively recent, but I can already tell, going to be a long-lived lifestyle of mine. The cliché passion, patience and getting to enjoy nature at it's highs and its lows, really show the importance of not only the sport of fishing, but of the charming world we all live in. Nature is often taken advantage of and I truly believe that when more people stop and stare, the less their brains will fry from modern technology. Many struggle with a tobacco or alcohol addiction, but fly rods and abundant waters are my heroin.
