Whats your thoughts on the flowers š¤
i like them!! i initially thought their designs were kind of out of place and the human-soul-omega thing was very jarring, but i think they're interesting!!
i liked aqua a lot. she was really really cute, and i think her association to kris was really neat.
i also liked blue very much. he had a very interesting and sort of mysterious vibe, probably because he was so connected to love and love is such a big part of deltarune.
i thought orange was interesting with the the condescension and hierarchical thinking she brought out in ralsei, which felt like an extrapolation of his scene with tenna at the end of chapter 3 and how his belief in the rigidity of the universe manifests as more than just self deprecation and depression.
i didn't like seth as much immediately, but i didn't initially watch all of their cafe hangout scenes, and i've grown of them since. yellow was a very funny bit, and works well as a more lighthearted reflection of asgore that then could be explored in a dark way later. green was fun.
flowery is such an uncomfortable character and i find that really interesting. iāve talked a bit about how he sort of interrogates the player and the protagonistsā beliefs by either questioning them outright or just mirroring them in a way that highlights their flaws, both for the āgoodā and ābadā preconceptions the player and the protagonists hold.
the way his presence kind of encourages susie to try out feminine stuff like bows feels uncomfortable and makes us question whether she's exploring something now that she feels safe enough to or whether her newfound happiness and relationships have made her more pliable in her preferences and beliefs. him pressing ralsei back into her old role is uncomfortable because it's this very loaded, bullying tactic that we also learn is intertwined with a very blunt attempt to crack her egg and force her to reevaluate her conceptions. his dynamic with kris is uncomfortable because it highlights the tension between the idea of them as a sad kid who loves their friends and family a lot and the idea of them as a person carrying out a plan behind everyone's backs that seems to deeply endanger them. his relationship with asgore is uncomfortable in so many ways, he's placating and buying in to this patriarchal idea that his family just didn't love him enough and weather everything he was doing enough and for that they failed him, while also trying to fill the roles of his wife and college friend and two children all at the same time. the way his final bossfight is emulating so much of undertale, and a pacifist player who wants to change the end of the story and make a perfect world through the power of friendship and belief is uncomfortable when you're in the middle of a story that may or may not only have one ending.
my point is that he's a very uncomfortable character. and i like that a lot. the whole chapter being steeped in romance also adds to this. i could talk about that more maybe in another post.
