I know Etho is approaching his world building in a real Way (#healthism) but the idea of giving ppl a base income determined by their Health Status is so interesting for the fact that it becomes immediately obvious that those who are born into wealth are more likely to be “healthier” because their basic needs are being met and they’ll have access to better resources (eg housing, food, medical care, just simply time to care for themselves and to rest and and and) whereas those living in (or near) poverty are more likely to face greater health issues just based off worse living conditions and less access to support and resources which then keeps them in poverty and worse health (and woah sidebar: this type of society probably has sectors that are wholly avoided and abandoned because it’s where the “unhealthy” live and I just know tuberculosis amongst other illnesses are going crazy there) and like Etho is right in that tying income to Health Status would be a class creating/dividing force in this world but im not sure he fully understands the extent to which/just how that might work
Etho you do know that the idea of “being healthy” is extremely nuanced and that health is not an individual’s responsibility but rather the combined outcome of a lot of different factors outside of their control, right??? You know that you can’t just willpower your way into “good health”????? Not even to mention how Etho is tying weight to notions of health and also?? I’m not sure he’s addressed how disability fits into/is reacted to in this world at all??? (Another sidebar, but, if your society uses parkour to get around that immediately isolates anyone with mobility issues. Relatedly, how are aging populations cared for? Parkour is dangerous, surely people get injured - do you have ways to heal bones instantaneously? Does it cost money? What about permanent mobility issues? Are “healthy” ppl who lose a leg considered “unhealthy” now? Are dystopian prosthetic limbs available and are they accessible or will they chew through your pockets? If you can’t afford to get medical care does the government provide any support or are you just doomed to now receive LESS money because getting injured/sick/etc is considered to be a personal failing?)
Anyways I actually kinda think that a society which takes a healthism mindset to the extreme by explicitly and systematically tying value to health is really interesting and does in fact reflect a lot of current attitudes and good dystopian fiction should engage with contemporary issues and fears but like. Etho I know you understand this is a dystopian world and that it’s bad to live in but I need you to study some public health stuff and unlearn a lot of bull shit before you keep going okay
this website really is you and your seven mutuals
it's like ok you can't care about event balancing because it's stupid and doesn't matter you can't care about wanting to be good at the game because it's sweaty you can't care about representation in a pride event because it's for charity you can't care about whether videos are even good because you should be grateful they exist you can't care about the quality of paid products because they're good for growth you can't care about working conditions because at least it's not ai you can't care about whether what people say is harmful ever because they don't know better and they're trying Ok im starting to think we should all just blow ourselves up or beat each other with sticks or something like what are we even doing
Unfortunately there's just no queer creators popular enough in the entire mcyt space to ever bring enough attention to an already very popular event . cishet men are literally NECESSARY because queer ppl don't get enough VIEWS.
there seems to be this pervasive thought that if an entertainment event is hosted for charity then it's perfectly fine to discard all the elements of that event that make it such a good event, as if the very notion of it being fine for it to be a lesser event just bc it's for charity isn't the most insulting thing ever? no integrity for the gay ppl i guess ?
and yes in the case of mcc (because indeed this is another longpost about minecraft comp) it does suck more if it isn't balanced well. it's a competition. it isn't a stupid thing to care about it's literally the crux of what makes the event work, otherwise you're just making all these ccs be the testers as you prepare for the Real not fake not for charity event where you get your tenth win medal and. sorry where was i um. i mean as scott says himself, mcc is an event where people get really passionate about their favorite block games (and it's not bad like sports). the competition is the generation of excitement for the event! of course people care about balancing!
you can literally watch and listen to the contestants themselves complain i mean care about the balancing, even the funny silly ones like oli*. i'm a little confused on how people miss things like this when they're otherwise so locked in on the minutiae of a streamer's streams for the purposes of shipbait or really corny running bits, but it could be that these fans in particular are coming from ccs who are much smoother at the aspect of their job where they hide any conflicts, disagreements, and general friction points to present a more fun and wholesome atmosphere despite whatever personal dissatisfaction they hold, and thus don't know about the horrors of mcc 24 green geckos.
and this is why one such solution is to decree that my next mandate as the kind emperor is to force everybody to watch twitch rivals house of nightmares and make them reckon with an event so bad and so shitass that you can't deny your comfort ccs not having fun with it because of the competitive aspects of the event being compromised. all our problems will go away and our kingdom will be peaceful and illustrious again.
