Sorry this is very important to me as ive literally done maths outreach before where queer teenagers have said this shit to me as like a genuine concern for why they wouldn't want to study maths like i get that ppl are joking but when you are young hearing that joke over and over you don't really have that context and you do in fact internalise it. btw like 80% of the ppl in my classes are cishet men and many of them talk down to ppl who aren't and make their lives miserable but like it's probably fine to keep reinforcing the myth that maths isn't for women or queer ppl Lol it's just a joke it's just rooted in ideas that im just reinforcing

been trying to word my criticism for a while and slamming my head against a wall but. it feels wild to create an explicitly dystopian system which he acknowledges disenfranchises people (which in this context is fat, lazy, and/or disabled people per the nebulous health score being tied to quality of life and potentially specifically your income) who would have to turn to means outside of the polite and acceptable methods to supplement that income, but seemingly the conclusion is still rooted in the idea that being any of the things that would make you suffer under this system are still undesirable or worth punishing.

rather than a commentary on the systemic ways in which you're being sold fascism under the guise of meritocracy and how badly people who are seen as failures under these post-capitalistic measures are treated, it just becomes about how we owe 'health' to ourselves, eachother, and society. and also they've got any amount of universal income????
