The Beasts of Hogwarts art show was a very clever art show created by The Beehive Society that took kid's imaginations to their full potential. I am honored to have been a part of this show in Winter 2016, and this is my contribution. You'll see little Gavin's original drawing of the monster, and my interpretation.

His name is "Tenticels" and he can be found eating humans with a side of sausages and ranch dressing in his dwelling 500 trillion miles above the ground. He also like to hang out with his kid. And of course, Tenticels is as big as a dragon, but smaller than two dragons. Prints are available online for a limited time. Hit me up, or follow the FB link above for more info.

A goodbye card for a friend always on an adventure wherever she resides, whether it be her home in Oakland, California or her travels in India. Plus she has an adorable cat.

In print, a triangle was die cut from the front page so that the tent showed through on both the front and inside pages.

Happy Halloween everyone! Here is an animation I made as a tribute to the most inspiring master disguise in Orange County: Gene Parmesan, Private Detective.

Process:

The costume illustrations.

The test animation. Originally I wanted him to move up/down/left/right to reveal the costumes. I decided that limiting the movement from left to right kept things simple and much more satisfying. Even though it’s a test, I think this animation can stand on it’s own.

Some designs I cooked up for my contributions to an Adventure Time themed potluck I was invited to. Recipes listed below.

Salty Jake’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake (Brownies) Bittersweet brownies with salted peanut butter frosting

Brownies: 3/4 cup (170 grams) unsalted butter, plus more for the pan 3 ounces (90 grams) bittersweet chocolate, chopped 1 1/2 cups (300 grams) granulated sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 3 large eggs 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional) 1/2 cup (40 grams) cocoa powder 1/2 cup (70 grams) all-purpose flour

Frosting: 6 tablespoons (85 grams) unsalted butter, at room temperature 3/4 cup (100 grams) smooth peanut butter 1/3 cup (40 grams) confectioners’ sugar 1/2 teaspoon flake salt

8-inch square pan. 325°F 25-30 mins. 

Lady Raini-Corn Bread Rainbow colored corn bread

Red, Blue, and Yellow food dyes. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus butter for baking dish 1 cup cornmeal 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 large eggs, lightly beaten 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

8-inch square pan. 425°F 20-25 mins.

I made this as a wedding gift for my cousin, Nicole Mena, back in 2013. This was made in tandem with the 'NZ’ ambigram logo represented on the bottom which was used throughout Nicole and Zack’s wedding. I also bought her an Ice Cream Maker, to assure she doesn’t grow up too much.
