dylan rolled her eyes. “yeah, you and i will definitely have fun no matter what size the party, it’s more a concern for everyone else.”

seeing her reaction to what she was doing, carter was thinking about something that would distract them both but he was trying not to say it immediately just in case she thought he only wanted her company for pleasure. carter loved hanging out with her and sometimes that was just a bonus.“okay not a movie then” he tried his best to think about something else but the way she kept looking at him didn’t help him think of other options so he decided to try his luck. “maybe there’s something else we could do…it usually relaxes us both and I think it could distract you.” he whispered looking into her eyes and then back down at her lips as if explaining her what he meant.

dylan didn’t know how it had gotten to this point. it would be a lie to say that she never realised how attractive carter was, but up until this point, it never crossed her mind to take their relationship here. she smirked slightly as she realised that she was making carter stumble a little, she guessed it wasn’t unrequited then. she nodded slowly as he continued on his little ramble, only really listening to half the words he was saying, her attention elsewhere. they both knew where this was going to end up at this point, it was a little ridiculous to dylan that carter was still dragging it out. with a roll of her eyes, she shifted onto her tip toes and closed the gap between their lips.

“There you go, I start the rumours until they actually happen.” mia joked and shrugged. “but nah in all seriousness I heard some people talking about it today so it should be good. they say its going to be a big one” 

“don’t you know word of mouth is an incredibly powerful medium? --party as in for the guests or for us. because if it’s the latter, i don’t know how big it could be.”

carter didn’t want to force her into doing anything she didn’t want to or make her even more nervous so that was the reason he didn’t dwell much on the subject. his main goal at the moment was to help relax and whatever she decided to do, he was going to support her.  he was also a little surprised at how close they were when she turned around and gently pushed a strand of her hair behind the girl’s ear. “exactly,i’m on your side 100%.” he smiled and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “then let’s do something else yeah? let’s keep you busy so you don’t think about any of that. Star gazing is not an option now so what should we do? watch a movie?” he suggested.

dylan was only made more aware of the heat rising to her cheeks by the cold wind whipping across them. she smiled as he tucked her hair away knowing that it wouldn’t stay in place for long. she couldn’t remember when exactly their friendship had developed, must have had something to do with their mutual love of the water. her eyes slid closed at the sensation of his lips on her skin. “i’m not sure a movie is mentally stimulating enough to quite class as a distraction,” she glanced at him, her eyes searching his.

“hey the best parties are the unplanned ones and you know that.” mia joked with a small laugh. “but rumour has it that there’s a big mahina party coming up and i’m definitely excited”

“how is it you get all these rumours before anyone else?” dylan pouted. “i’m starting to think you’re the origin of most of them.”

Shiloh gagged and flailed her arms wildly. “I don’t want to guess the rest!!!! EWEEWEWEWWW.”  The blonde gave a nod of agreement. “I mean, that’s not to say that I don’t ever do dumb shit but god guys  really go out of their way. But it’s fine because then we females have more time to rule the earth in the end.” She gave Dylan a thumbs up and laughed. “They’re not always horrible though. I’ve got a few I love like big brothers.”

dylan laughed at the girl’s overreaction. “if you think about it, the ocean is filled with fish pee, what’s another guy’s on me?” she shrugged. “okay, we do dumb shit, but guys do dumb, dangerous, life threatening shit -- there’s a huge difference. we all know that if we were all in charge, the world would be a much better place,” she nodded in agreement. “they’re not all bad, but just don’t let them make plans for anything.”

“I have mine over there if you’d like.” Carter chuckled softly to lighten up the mood, he smiled when she leaned back to him and rubbed her arms gently to keep her from the cold. he knew she was worried,he could sense it and her quietness gave it all away too. “dylan there are good and bad days, i’ve been through that before. you’re an amazing athlete, one bad day won’t mean anything even if you fail tomorrow it won’t mean that you’re a bad athlete or that you’ll have to stop.” he whispered keeping her close to him. “if you dont think you should try tomorrow then don’t but honestly, I think you should go. You can’t let the fear win as cheesy as that sounds.” 

she had only been kidding, besides, it was already too dark for any pictures they took to turn out nice, she mentioned as such. in any other situation, dylan would have revelled in the feeling of carter surrounding her, but her mind was still preoccupied. she knew he had merit to what he was saying, but she just didn’t have bad days ever. dylan was in her own head and she didn’t know how to climb out of it again. she hated knowing that she was the reason the mood was taking a turn for the depressing; she was supposed to be the carefree life of the party, not the one bringing it down. “we’ll see how i feel in the morning.” she forced a smile on her face and turned in the circle of his arms to face carter; he was a lot closer to her face than she anticipated. “i don’t want to think about it right now.”

“no i know that.” he said with a laugh. “i just think some people here like to think they’re golf pros. they probably are, but whatever. i’m the one being paid to teach, not them.” jason smirked. “i guess you’re not wrong there.”

“hey, if they’re rich enough to be vacationing here, i’d say they’re definitely rich enough to have that over-inflated ego that comes with having too many zeros in your bank account,” she shrugged; most of the time she didn’t care, until they came out with the whole i-know-better-than-you attitude. “he could be the next tiger woods and you’ve just crushed his dream.”

“Yeah I have people who tell me the exact same thing when I tell them what I do for a living but at least we’re actually livng life.” mia nodded thinking about all the people that warned her about how much she could get injured from doing what she did “well yeah they realy are.”

“i mean, we’re living in one of the most beautiful places on the planet and getting paid to do it -- no one can really fault us.”

“you should be, this should be something you tell your kids and grandkids in the future. that the carter took you on his boat once. you’ll be treated like royality” carter kept joking, he obviously didn’t see himself as any of that so it was just them having fun. he looked over at dylan when he noticed her getting cold and wrapped his arms around her to keep her warm. “Do you want me to get you  a sweater?” he asked her not wanting his frien to get sick. “you’re going to do great tomorrow.” he whispered when he heard what she had said but said in a low tone as well figuring she didn’t want to talk about it.

“once?” she cocked an eyebrow. “wow, this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. now i’m wishing i brought my camera to capture some pictures of this momentous occasion.” her eyes widened slightly as she felt his arms circle her, but it didn’t stop her from leaning back into him. “i’m actually okay like this.” she shook her head, they were close enough that even whispered could be heard. “you didn’t see me today, it was...” she struggled to find the right word that would encapsulate her entire day, “hopeless.”

“sigh i know it would be something very ‘me’ to do but this time my friend beat me.” carter laughed in regards to the captain hat.  he took a sup of his beer and laughed softly when she started joking in a dramatic way. “ah yes all of my groupies, they all stand outside in line waiting to have a chance to get in here but they all fail.” he joked with her. “you’re just one who got lucky.” he teased her and walked outside so they could see the water around them. “well there’s a first time for everything right?” he smiled and looked at the shore, it was a bit distant but they could still see it. “mmm i think we could yeah, it would be a little tiring but we could.” he smiled

she placed a hand over her heart, “i for one am very honoured that i would get this once in a lifetime opportunity for the carter to take me out.” as much as they joked, she knew they were both well aware that he was in general a loved person. dylan was regretting speeding out of the room without grabbing a sweater first; she never realised how cold the sea breeze could be in the middle of the night in the middle of the sea. instinctively, she leaned into carter’s warm body. the mellowness the sea brought was almost too calming, enough to bring back her thoughts from earlier. “maybe i’ll do it tomorrow instead,” she said quietly, not really meaning for carter to respond.

“You’re absolutely right though, they are so afraid of it that instead of living life at the fullest they just sit and wait. that’s such a bad way to live in my opinion.” mia shook her head. “oh yeah I get you now, the moral is: those who complain are just big wusses.”

she nodded in agreement. “they’re alive, but it jury is still out on whether they’re actually living.” she wasn’t one to judge a sedentary lifestyle, she just didn’t understand it. dylan ran a hand through her hair, “uh, not exactly. i’m just saying technicalities are stupid.”

“Ew ew ewwwww,” Shiloh exclaimed, noise wrinkling and her hands over her mouth in horror. “God you’re a better person than me, I would turn tail and run the other way.” A hand ran through her hair and she shook her head in disdain. “Why is it always guys? Are they just biologically engineered to do dumb stuff?”

“i guess you really wouldn’t want to hear about that time i went up to stop them and the guy was already mid-pee and turned to face me...and i’m sure you can guess the rest.” dylan laughed at the memory. “i guess there’s a reason we chose the jobs we did.” she shrugged, “you know how there’s a statistic that women live longer than men? it’s most definitely because they do dumb shit all the time.”

Carter raised one hand in defense and put it back on the wheel. “It was a gift so I didn’t exactly buy it but I’m not saying I don’t use it.” he laughed softly and nudged her side playfully. “now i never joke about that, I am the captain after all. hat or no hat, i’m the captain of this ship and today you’re my co-captain just because I like you.” he grinned. Once they were in the middle of the sea, he stopped the boat so he could properly hang out with her. “lets go get those drinks” he smiled walking to the kitchen are and taking some beers from the fridge. “i wouldn’t be surprised.” he joked handing her a beer. “i am but you’re welcome all the time.” he smiled.

she raised an eyebrow incredulously at him. “i can definitely see you going out to buy this hat, no offence. irregardless, it’s very cute.” dylan took the bottle from carter with a grin, tipping back a few gulps before speaking again. “i’m honestly offended you’d lump me in with the rest of your groupies,” she placed a hand over her heart. “and here i thought we had a deeper connection than that.” a coy smile spread across her face at that. she would consider carter a friend, definitely, but they weren’t that close. she leaned against the railing, looking out at the wide expanse of the sea. “is it weird that i never come this far out despite being in the ocean all the time?” she turned to look back at him, “do you think we could swim back to shore?”

“i did want you to explain but i’m just over the whole conversation now.” she replied, shrugging her shoulders. “alright alright, i’ll replace sleeping with being mauled by a wild animal. it sounds really painful but it’s still a cool way to die.” cassidy admitted with a giggle.

“fine, i guess you can remain in the dark forever,” dylan shrugged. it was no skin off her back to not have to explain. a slight frown spread across her features as they discussed ways they wanted to die, it reminded dylan of a time when the two of them were friends. “you’d have to have a closed casket funeral.”

“yeah you’re telling me.” he said with a laughed. “i can’t say much, i’m not the greatest at golf so i wing whatever i’m unsure of. people seem to buy it though, so it’s good.” jason smirked. “maybe he is a golfer pro in the making, who knows?” he asked rhetorically. he was glad he had dylan to help make his day easier by having a few laughs and jokes.

“you don’t have to be some professional at golf to be able to teach it,” she bumped his shoulder lightly. “besides, who really comes here to become an expert? they just want to be able to hit the ball.” she shook her head laughing, “you really shouldn’t discourage him so easily. besides, it’s not like being exposed to the elements for a few nights was going to kill you.”
