Pulling out her order pad from a well maintained apron the cologne hit her first, the overwhelming smell of overpriced privilege and cardamom(?) - Ines was unsure if she was attracted or her olfactory senses were overwhelmed by a woody smell mixed with spice and the fry grease of luther's. It was not unfamiliar but it was still new enough she didn't know enough of the man who wore it having quite honestly never seen this man before in her life. Taking a moment she smoothed her apron, pushing a stray hair back collecting herself giving the stranger a smile. It didn't help that he was handsome and she'd been working since the breakfast shift. "That certainly is an unforgettable cologne. What can I get for you handsome - are you just passing through or are we going to see more of each other around town? In either case, I'm Ines its a pleasure to meet you. Pretty sure you've been in here before but we haven't spoken before"

—— with a book in hand, she just got out of class and was heading to the food court, but on her way there, she didn’t expect to see carter. out of everyone on campus, layla had to run into him and honestly, she wasn’t mentally prepared for it, but knew she should talk to him rather than ignore him. “hey! it’s... you,” she responded, smiling, but cursing at herself too for saying that as a greeting. “how have you been lately? it’s been a while.” which seemed better that way. whenever he was around, she couldn’t help having butterflies in her stomach.

carter had been popping up more and more these days; perhaps it should have been a sign to reevaluate her choice of clubbing venue. but the low lights of oasis had a wonderful habit of allowing anyone to camouflage amongst the crowd. and luckily, every passing glance of his familiar face never ended in more than a quick acknowledgement.

luck had to run out sometime though, right? and now, he was right next to her.

for a while, there had been no one she hated in this town more than carter harris. what was supposed to just have been a fling (maybe a reoccurring one if the chemistry was there (and, unfortunately for her, it was)) turned into the most humiliating, guilt-ladden moment of her life when his fiancee made herself known. celia didn't think of herself as a vengeful or hateful person, but even she surprised herself when she went off on him the next time they saw one another. but then he just kept showing up. and the fire that raged inside her at the sight of him dimmed. though, celia would never say she quite enjoyed his company. more tolerated.

"god, I swear you're the human embodiment of a rash." she quipped, her words stitched together in a drunken slog. "just keep popping up and never going away." the loneliness that had weighed inside her these past few weeks tugged at her, however. locking herself away during the day and having meaningless conversations and even more meaningless sex wasn't cutting it anymore.

         It wasn’t log after he arrived in the ballroom that River spotted Carter from across the room. Ever since he met Carter for the first time, the other had a way of capturing his attention and making it seem as if there was no other person in close proximity to them. He was mesmerizing in that way. It was difficult for River not to get lost in those breathtaking eyes of Carter’s or to be dazzled by that stunning smile of his. Before he knew it, River was making his way across the room towards the bartender. The other was speaking to someone else, but River had no qualms about interrupting their conversation to focus Carter’s attention solely on himself. “Pardon me, I’m sorry to interrupt,” He declared, darting a quick glance at the other man that Carter was speaking to before looking back at Carter, “But I just wanted to tell you, Carter, that you look amazing tonight.”

"So you never told me what you wanted for Christmas. What can I possibly get you that you don't already have?" Carter questioned, staring with heart eyes at River. "How about for starters I take out that big candy cane of yours and remind you of what my mouth can do? Would that please you, sexy?"

"Honestly, darling, I haven't thought much at all about what I want for Christmas. I hope this doesn't sound pompous, but I don't really want for much. I'm very blessed in that regard." He shrugged his shoulders, looking back at Carter with the same amount of fondness in his gaze. He chuckled softly at the next words that left Carter’s mouth, smirking at the thinly veiled innuendo. “Now, that would be a gift that keeps on giving.” He winked at him and nodded. “Absolutely, it would. Go ahead and get down on your knees. Give me the reminder of what that lovely mouth of yours can do for me.”
