Ok state your arguments then. As for the next post you reblogged, the whole season the issue was that sophia was being wrongfully held. Doggett chose to forgive her rapist for her own behalf in case you missed that entire scene with Boo
“All these tropes of marginalized women being victimized are okay and acceptable because it mAdE sEnSe FoR tHe StOrYlINE and anyone who disagrees with my refusal to acknowledge that politics affect art and vice versa is a Dirt SJW who should be dismissed as such”
Btw like how you’re going through my blog and sending me asks instead of responding to the original reblog lmao
Are you watching the same show I am because the ENTIRE SHOW IS ABOUT THE THINGS THESE WOMEN FACE. I never dismissed SJWs as a whole.
And yes I sent an ask to avoid reblogging my own post 30 times. My blog has been fairly consistent in my personal material of things I find interesting so I'm trying to avoid void reblogging it too many times. I can reblog your post if it makes you feel any more special
It's bad enough that we're actually dying every fucking day, and we don't need to be reminded of it in a show—a show that was seen as a safe space for a lot of us. So you saying "they're just showing the injustice they face" is insensitive as fuck. It only looks that way to you because it's not constantly happening to you 😂😂
Me, a gay man in the south? That doesn't happen to me? Ok. ...anyways, how does this show even begin to be a safe space for anyone of lgbt orientation with the issues the show presents? Safe spaces are bullshit anyways, people act like stuff isn't allowed to happen. This stuff happens every day, correct, and that's what OITNB shows people. The stuff that happens every day against women and queer women. Would you prefer a prison show where none of this issues are addressed? Where everything is peachy clean? Hidden? Then you would be complaining that no real issues are addressed and you'd be mad at the show still.
Regarding the death of a QWOC (spoiler free)
Get the fuck over yourselves SJWs. The entirety of the show is literally women, queer women, women of color, and queer women of color. Any other significant inmate they would have killed would have resulted in an outrage.
They did not kill her for any reason but to point out the injustices they faced in the show as well as those same injustices that occur in the real world.
They didn’t kill her because she was a queer woman of color. Stop acting like TV shows aren’t allowed to kill anyone because you don’t like it.
the entirety of the show are lgbt+ women, and women of color and yet the decide to kill the one black lesbian on the show, feeding into the “bury your gays trope”
after the deaths of LGBT+ people of color, both irl and on tv it’s just disgusting to see it in oitnb, especially after they fed us a whole season of their bullshit racist fantasies
False, she is not the only black lesbian. They didn’t erase the lgbt representation by killing one out of many characters.
If you are truly angered by her death than do something about it in the real world and fight the real world instances where WOC and QWOC are actually killed.
What the fuck are you talking about honestly? Get out there and do something?
Shut up, I’m a QWOC and let me tell you I am absolutely capable of multitasking boo. I can be fired up on the internet because they did fuck over wlw by killing off the only lesbian one who was in a happy, constructive relationship for shock value, and be pissed irl, but you ain’t about to catch my ass doing shit that’s gonna get me killed because I am a QWOC.
And! Also! You actin like people ain’t been doing shit? We trying out here, but we’re still getting killed. So excuse us if we don’t appreciate being killed off on television for ratings, after only just getting an example of a good, happy wlw relationship which was ended in a poorly executed death scene that trivialized and undermined the actual violence QWOC face in daily life.
Oh yeah, just label me a racist and a douche because you don’t like what I have to say. That’ll do - just shout stuff to win an argument instead of actually presenting facts. Explain how I am racist
By using the murder of a fictional queer woman of color to try and talk to people who experience situations exactly like her death on a daily basis, . Makes you pretty goddamn racist.
So I'm not allowed to talk about things that happens within my community? Again, facts and evidence please

Yes, do something. Complaining isn't doing anything and neither is arguing with you. Didn't say you were incapable of anything.
I did not undermine anyone's movements against these crimes. I'm part of this as much as you are so excuse me if my life isn't completely shattered by fictional TV.
She is a face for the forgotten
This time, this one, this death is not the trope. Poussey did not die for a gasp, for shock, for drama. Rather, she is a face, a reminder, a story to put with all of the forgotten POC who have died in police custody. She was a black woman. She was a gay woman. She was a fan favorite. She will be talked about and mourned when so many real people have had their deaths stifled, swept under the rug, covered up. She is the person you rooted for, that you laughed with and cried for. She died to remind us that being a criminal does not make you automatically deserving of a horrible end. She died to remind us that non-violent people get murdered by those who are supposed to protect us. She died to remind us that those criminals that are so often written off as less than us are actually people. Whole people. She died to remind us that, had we known their stories, we probably would have liked so very many of the people that the news media and the system try to make us think we are different from. She died to remind us that people are dying, people are being killed. People. Not mugshots made up of sentences that sum up only the mistakes they made and not who they were. Whole, real people.
Poussey did not die for the drama. Poussey died for all those that have died before and will continue to die if we don’t pay attention, remember their names, and tell their stories.
Ok Chill Tf Out
So scrolling through the #OITNB tag on here I keep seeing all these people fucking livid that they killed off Poussey. Yes, I cried for a long time. She was one of my favorite characters. But I understand why they did it.
And no, its not to “bury the gays” or to specifically target the LGBTQ community. There are so many different social issues that this show tries to tackle at once, and I can see why people mistook it as them “killing off a lesbian character”. Which is a part of Poussey’s identity, yes I agree.
But I think the main reason Poussey was the one to die was because not only did it highlight the violence and deaths that actually happen DAILY in prisons all over the United States, but the writers also wanted to bring the #BlackLivesMatter movement to the forefront. The way that the death was handled, and specifically HOW Poussey died are very similar to many deaths of innocent black people in the USA, and SPECIFICALLY the death of Eric Garner. He was put in a stranglehold on the ground until he died in New York City for selling cigarettes on the street.
The way that her body was left decaying for HOURS in a cafeteria and how her father wasn’t even called until a DAY later is what you people should be disgusted and angry about. Not the fact that she was a lesbian, because most of the characters on OITNB are. And it’s an absolutely wonderful thing.
For all the people saying that this show is “dead” to them, shame on you. Because this is one of the only shows out there that continually has lesbian relationships on it, and even one of the most influential BLACK TRANS women in history. If you want to stop watching because they killed off a character to bring social issues to the forefront, then stop calling yourselves LGBTQ and SJ warriors because your skin’s way too thin to actually bring change to this world.

ok im like irritated that people keep reblogging that old ass post about mexico legalizing same-sex marriage from last year so here is better information (with sources!! most of them are in spanish im sorry.)
same-sex marriage has been legal in mexico city since 2009 (effective 2010) and it was later ruled in aug 2010 that these marriages are valid throughout the whole country, which is why a lot of people will say that same-sex marriage has been legalized in mexico since 2010
in may 2012 the secretary of state of quintana roo (a state in southeastern mexico) allowed for same-sex marriages to be performed in the state– the first marriage was performed in 2011 because there was nothing in the civil code that said you COULDN’T, but then the mayor annulled it, and then the secretary of state reversed THAT. it was an exciting time
also in 2012 there was a case in oaxaca (a state in the southwest) which ruled that laws limiting marriage to a man and a woman were discriminatory and therefore unconstitutional. this meant that marriages could be legally performed in any state and be federally recognized even if the state didn’t allow it. a little bit confusing but still important– i’m sorry if there’s something i’ve missed here though because it’s a lot of legal jargon that i still have a hard time parsing
in jan 2014 there was a case in puebla (a state in the east) involving a couple who were married in mexico city in 2012. they applied for spousal benefits in puebla and were denied. one of the complaintants ultimately died and so the case was dismissed by a lower court BUT the supreme court picked it up and ordered the marriage to be recognized by both puebla AND the mexican social security institute which MEANS all marriages and civil unions now must ALL receive the same benefits. very exciting!!
in june 2015 (which is what that post is referring to) the mexican supreme court ruled that state bans on same-sex marriages are unconstitutional. this basically meant that same-sex marriage is entirely legal in mexico but because there still wasn’t legislation to follow it up civil registrars still had to follow state laws. but still, it was effectively legalized
PERO LA LUCHA SIGUE!!! recently last month in may 2016 the current president of mexico announced he had signed an initiative to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide. this will amend the constitution, which requires 2/3 majority support from congress and ratification from majority of the states. and so we wait
i know this is a lot of text but i want everyone to understand that the fight for lgbtq+ rights in mexico has been going on for a while now (even beyond this! this is just in recent history) and is not a new development. the impression i’m getting from everyone is “oh wow good for mexico catching up with the rest of us” when that isn’t true and i’m tired of everyone acting like mexico is some dirty backwards country
