I don’t think that it stopped being viable to be a kind, hopeful person during the process of growing up. It just got harder, that’s all. Giving in and lamenting the state of the world, letting yourself be filled with hate isn’t the key to getting ahead. The guidelines never changed with age into “start being a bad, uncaring person”. It’s just that the conditions got harder with age. Life is complicated, life isn’t always fair. I’m not turning a blind eye to the people who are bad and exploitative. But I think that spending your entire life looking for the worst in people and being resigned to it is a miserable existence, and it’s taking the easy way out.

A cynical friend once told me, appreciatively, that it takes a level of courage to not be gloomy all the time, that it takes guts while being miserable is the easier path. I would like to think they were telling the truth.

I’d prefer to go forward, knowing that the world and humanity are deeply flawed, but also remembering not to disregard the legitimate good, and to create and cultivate more of it. Because optimism isn’t always the easier path, and the most worthwhile things don’t come to us easily. So I’d think optimism is a worthwhile outlook.

Maybe I speak from a position of privilege. Who knows. But that’s how I want to live.

There are times where I want to give up, even in this day and age; however, I keep finding more people who are supportive of me and even understand my situation! As for the people who gave me trouble in the past, I’m gradually realizing that they were probably trouble from the beginning and I’m even seeing cracks in their personalities.

The way you draw Doopliss is wonderful! If you could draw him in a few more poses, it’s possible for an animator to link them together for a seamless action!
