Crypto Industry's Focus On Blockchain Inclusion Will Create Mass Adoption
.
Crypto Industry's Focus On Blockchain Inclusion Will Create Mass Adoption
The following piece on blockchain inclusion was written by Alexander Vasylchenko. He is the CEO and founder of Sofitto and the creator of Sugi-Card, which is a cold-storage cryptocurrency wallet. Alexander is also the former CTO of Mycelium, one of the first secure mobile Bitcoin wallets, created in 2013.
Cryptocurrencies have only been around for a decade, but their impact on global and local economies is palpable. Last month, a pilot project launched in Uganda provided 1,000 farmers with cryptocurrency loans. In a country where almost half the population is underbanked, the project allows farmers to buy the necessary tools to scale their businesses without depending on banks.
Toward Mass Adoption and Blockchain Accessibility
But many of today’s cryptocurrency tools do not commit to making blockchain technology easily accessible. Consumer products are still far too technical, placing an overwhelming responsibility on the user to educate themselves on how to navigate this new landscape safely.
A recent report revealed that while 93 per cent of British people are aware of Bitcoin, they don’t know how it works. Only 4 per cent understand it.
If we are to see mass adoption of distributed ledger technologies, we need to make them as accessible as possible for every person — from unbanked communities in emerging economies to populations with established financial infrastructure. Blockchain inclusion — the idea that the technology will only make a meaningful difference when everyone, regardless of their culture, demographic or technical know-how is empowered to use it — must be the industry’s focus.
From Cypherpunks to New Adopters
The first users of cryptocurrency were technically proficient. They were drawn to blockchain technology’s potential to disrupt the financial, social and political realms.
A nod to the cypherpunk era, Satoshi Nakamoto’s original Bitcoin whitepaper appealed to those who already sought to challenge traditional finance, which in the wake of the 2008 economic collapse had proven that the system was failing. Blockchain’s consensus mechanism was a promising alternative; it effectively withdrew power from centralized financial authorities and shifted trust into a self-governed network built to resist human-driven misconduct.
Due to the rising market price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from 2015 to 2017, we saw the next major wave of users enter the space. While the core philosophy of bitcoin was not founded on promise of financial returns, the initial coin offering (ICO) boom attracted countless new players to the space. Luckily, ICOs now seem to be a thing of the past — their popularity fading as fast as they arrived — giving the industry a chance to shift the focus to its consumers.
The Challenges of a Nascent Technology
But for many people, simply storing crypto can be a daunting process, and this hinders its mass adoption. Corporate solutions are, for the most part, years away from being placed in the hands of consumers. Wallets still require technical acumen and are typically inaccessible for making everyday purchases. Online wallets are far easier to use. However, they are not designed with security strong enough to resist hacks or phishing attacks. Usability and accessibility often comes at a great cost to security.
As we now enter a new stage of cryptocurrency adoption, it is up to companies and teams to make the use of crypto as simple and safe as possible. Projects face a number of challenges as they try to blend this nascent, complex technology with both usability and security. While users should take the initiative in educating themselves, the tools and products they use should provide a smooth and effortless transition.
Blockchain is Not Inclusive by Default
In the same way that entire unbanked communities have grown from rigid, traditional banking processes, we run the risk of crypto finance solutions creating an exclusive ecosystem. The World Bank’s Global Findex database estimates that 1.7 billion adults do not have bank accounts. However, more than one billion of these unbanked adults have mobile phones, which opens up an avenue for convenient access to financial services.
Blockchain inclusion depends on the teams building the technology, not their users. In an ideal world, the phrase “build it and they will come” would resonate with us all. The reality is far less encouraging; as with any new technology, it’s the creators and innovators who bear the burden of engineering products that are easily adoptable.
According to the Technology Acceptance Model, user adoption depends upon two core factors: perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. In theory, the combination of these two factors pulls users in and pushes crypto into the mainstream.
Developing blockchain tools that are both useful and easy to use is challenging, but it is within our reach. In order to drive the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies, we need solutions accommodating all users regardless of technical ability, simplifying the process of both storing and using crypto.
Blockchain Should be Designed for Everyone
As cryptocurrencies begin to filter slowly into the global economy, we need to ensure that their entry into the mainstream is as fluid as possible. As with all new technologies, there are multiple barriers to entry such as accessibility, cost and education.
Products such as wallets and payment options should be so simple that individuals can make cryptocurrency transactions without understanding the mechanics behind them. Our technologies should be made blockchain agnostic, meaning they can operate on top of any blockchain.
User Experience Should Be at the Heart of Our Solutions
We can also engineer crypto products that look and feel like traditional banking products. These include classic payment cards and banking mobile apps. They can easily be embedded within our current financial infrastructure and signed to be used at ATMs and POS terminals.
Products do not have to rely on third parties; we can process payments, transfers and just about anything else to do with crypto. This will ensure faster transmission and lower transactions costs.
The barriers to both technological and financial inclusion will crumble if we make it simple to use cryptocurrency. We need to place users at the heart of our solution. We should be committing ourselves to blockchain inclusion, while still having a chance to build the products that will define our new digital economy.

There's a lot happening behind the scenes while at the forefront we are seeing speculation and despair as the focus is on anything and everything except the fundamentals of why cryptocurrency is here and withstood the last ten years. 2018 may have not been a good year for investors and punters wanting to make a quick buck, however, we have seen some stability in Bitcoin itself, along with evolving technology that is reaching some amazing milestones.
More education along with companies incorporating blockchain technology, with portals for easier user experience and acceptance is in the works and the desired result for mass adoption of cryptocurrency and complete ecosystems will become a reality in all sectors of the community in all countries. Although these ecosystems on the blockchain will produce their own coin, I believe Bitcoin being universal will be used for conversion which creates liquidity. This will empower everyone on a global scale.
One particular sector that is evolving in the online space is Market Networks. With the ever-increasing occupation of Online Marketers, Business Owners and Entrepreneurs, this is a much sought after platform. We now have one company that has built its entire system on the blockchain, giving its userbase complete privacy, transparency and freedom.
Markethive, along with its coin (MHV) has positioned itself to be the world's first social/marketing platform that offers complete privacy, along with total freedom of speech. With over 200 engineers and a hive of portals, hubs, E-commerce and marketing tools, Markethive's influence in the sphere of entrepreneurs, business owners, commercial artists will rise to prominence.
The system is up and running with Infinity Airdrops about to be executed. This is unprecedented in this industry and with its vision to bring universal income and success to all its members, it is set to be the number one Market Network.
Unlike so many other companies that are endeavouring to make it in the Crypto and Blockchain world, Markethive does not have an ICO. Most initial coin offerings are failing due to lack of planning and infrastructure. Basically, nothing to show what is underpinning the venture. And as stated above, they are becoming a "thing of the past."
Moving forward Markethive's ILP ensures it's longevity and creates the opportunity for a lucrative and safe haven to conduct any business requiring the state-of-the-art tools offered along with collaboration with a community of like-minded individuals.
Subscribe and keep up to date with all the latest news and developments here at Markethive. You will be amazed at where this will take You and your business.

Is Crypto Market's Secret Driving Force Over the Counter OTC Bitcoin Trading?
.
Is Crypto Market’s Secret Driving Force Over the Counter (OTC) Bitcoin Trading? TABB Group Says Yes
It’s almost impossible to determine what exactly drives bitcoin’s price. There are mentions of peer to peer purchases, nascent technologies, and regulations. But all of these combined, aren’t enough to drive its price as it is. There are far too many less obvious factors at play. One of these is over the counter (OTC) transactions. Estimates by TABB group show that the volume of the cryptocurrency’s over the counter transactions is about $12 billion per day. That’s $1 billion more than the $11 billion from online transactions. That’s a huge amount. But because these transactions are done offline through people meeting face to face or through a local broker, most entities just forget them.
According to Monica Summerville, an employee with the company:
“Our reports are based on interviews and with participants in markets, cover more than BTC and keep in mind that not all transactions show up on public blockchains as many venues omnibus accounts so only net changes to their positions will be written to the public blockchain.”
The report from TABB Group has proven that bitcoin transactions may be happening at unprecedented levels… levels that we haven’t even begun to think of.
Why Is Over The Counter Trading So Popular?
For starters, this is the favourite bitcoin trading avenue utilized by the big money investors aka whales. These are entities that have huge quantities of bitcoin in the crypto portfolios. They’re usually in the form of hedge fund managers, HNIs, private wealth managers and people/companies who are in control of huge investment funds.
This makes sense because brokers help prevent incidents like price drops by “locking them in” at a particular price. This way, they can get their bitcoins at a pre-agreed price. More, there’s a limit to how much can be traded on an exchange at every point in time.
This is both a time and liquidity issue, and one that many exchanges are trying to resolve. Most exchanges cannot handle high volume transactions as brokers do. For instance, let’s say a private wealth entity wants to sell 200 BTC through a popular cryptocurrency exchange like Binance. While he’s waiting for his order to go through, the price drops.
If the entity really wants to sell, they would have to settle for that price or wait till another time. However, with a broker, a price dip doesn’t affect his selling the coins. Thanks to his access to liquidity providers, he can quickly fill that order and have the tokens sold in a very short time.
The second benefit is that the trading fees and commissions are usually lower than those offered by exchanges. The seller can always negotiate with the broker and reach an agreement about commissions and associated trading fees, unlike exchange fees and commissions that are usually set and non-negotiable.
Why Are The OTC Trades Not Recorded?
Largely because these are done by individuals and entities that prefer to be anonymous and private. On the blockchain, you can always track where what went, even if you don’t know who’s behind the transfer. But, with the brokers, none of that trade is trackable.
According to Ray Youssef, CEO of p2p Bitcoin broker, Paxful, most trades aren’t visible on the blockchain:
“due to privacy reasons… occasionally, users can work out the transfer of an entire wallet so as to not indicate a shift in a large number of holdings.”
Bottom line, it is possible for their clients to buy up entire wallets.
“Large trades can also be conducted in such a way that they are very difficult to trace through the blockchain. “Other times, buyers and sellers use a tumbling process to mix fragments of coins that ultimately end up at the intended destination so as to avoid a record of a certain quantity moving from one to another,” he explained.
If entire wallets are purchased, then you can understand why the transaction will not reflect on the blockchain –there’s no transfer whatsoever. The buyer just takes possession of the private keys, seed phrases and every other necessary detail and it becomes theirs.
Do These Whales Have an Identity?
While there’s no concrete data or information on those who participate in these high volume OTC trades, there are rumours about who they may be.
Another expert, Jack J. Jia, Director of Institutional Sales at Wyre, a Money Service Business (MSB) firm, said the bulk of them are:
“definitely mostly in Asia, with China still being the #1 country for fiat clearance.”… “A trader might trade crypto-to-crypto on a Korean exchange or a Singaporean exchange or a Japanese exchange in terms of central limit order books, but if the trader needs to rebalance via fiat currency, they will turn to OTC trading services based in China and settle in and out of RMB,”
Ray Youssef says:
“These customers are like anyone else, buying quantities large and small in hopes of storing or transferring wealth beyond the regulatory grasp of the countries in which they live.”
This means countries like China, with its strict regulations on crypto trading –particularly on exchanges- may be a possible location for the bulk of these trades.
Conclusion
OTC trading is currently at an all-time high, and Youssef doesn’t believe it’s going away anytime soon. He said,
“OTC trades are more in line with the traditional ideology of bitcoin,”… “Scaling issues have forced many transactions off chain onto privately owned and centralized exchanges, however, the future of bitcoin will always lie in OTC trades for the reasons with centralization comes corruption, always.”

Tom Lee Won't Abandon 15000 Year-End Bitcoin Price Forecast and Neither Will I

Tom Lee Won’t Abandon $15,000 Year-End Bitcoin Price Forecast – Neither Will I
Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee stands by his reduced year-end bitcoin price target of $15,000, saying continued fallout from a market slump in tech stocks is putting pressure on cryptocurrencies.
Lee’s new prediction is a dramatic drop from the bullish $25,000 price target he had set in early-2018 when the crypto market seemed poised for a major explosion.
“Global markets have seen liquidity dry up, and bitcoin is not necessarily a value asset — so as growth stocks, tech, and FAANG come under pressure, it’s going to hurt bitcoin,” Lee told CNBC on November 20. “The downturn in FAANG is hurting those owning bitcoin.”
Lee: Bitcoin in an ‘Awkward Transition’
Despite the recent decline, Lee remains bullish about crypto because he believes we’re merely undergoing an “awkward transition.”
Lee said crypto still has a bright long-term future ahead because he has no doubt that institutional investors will start coming around.
When asked when institutional investors will start making giant leaps into crypto, Lee said it’s on the horizon.
“The next wave of adoption is institutional, There is a crossover happening. This is just an awkward transition. Institutional backing will come soon. You will get it partly through infrastructure, like Bakkt, which is launching soon. Part of it is going to come through regulatory clarity.”
Regulatory Clarity Will Ease Institutional Anxiety
Lee said regulatory crackdowns on scam artists and ongoing federal investigations into bitcoin price manipulation would ultimately legitimize the industry.
“Once we have that, institutions will feel a lot more comfortable making bets [on crypto],” he said.
Tom Lee said regulatory scrutiny of crypto scams would benefit the industry by easing consumer and institutional anxiety about the burgeoning industry.
Besides, Lee said, you can’t stop the future — and the future is definitely digital.
“Digital assets are going to be relevant in a world where growth is increasingly digital, So bitcoin is a real bet on [the future].”
Tom Lee: Chill out, Crypto is the Future
Lee also pointed out that bitcoin’s market penetration is gradually increasing. “It’s clearing more on-chain transactions relative to PayPal by a factor of three,” he said. “So today, bitcoin is more used to move money than PayPal.”
As for naysayers who say crypto is dead because it’s in a slump right now, Lee said don’t bet on it.
“Do I think bitcoin as a long-term fundamental story is broken? I don’t think so. Price at the moment isn’t confirming fundamentals.”
While people paying too much attention to the PRICE of Bitcoin and other Cryptos they are more than often not paying attention to the fundamentals and that there is more and more momentum building from the financial sector in regard to cryptocurrency.
What are the fundamentals?
More and more governments, banks, corporations adopting blockchain technology.
More and more institutional investors buying Bitcoin like hedge funds, banks etc
More and more adoption of Bitcoin and Altcoins with merchants globally
More and more people opening wallets and accounts with exchanges daily
More and more point of sale technology for crypto rolling out with terminals, and mobile applications to increase adoption.
Now is the time to buy bitcoin while it's cheap.
Bitcoin is not going to zero or had its day. People have said bitcoin is dead so many times there is no more room in the graveyard. There are some trading companies that actually make huge gains in this environment. (Not Exchanges) The people that understand this and get involved also are in profit. No one loses. The only people that lose are the ones just holding (HODLing) their Bitcoin. They're the ones that lose and they're the ones that have a negative attitude towards these events.
This trading company made a fortune on this downturn in price. This was the dip all the experts forecast before we see a price gain. The best part is it's available to everyone. What is their secret?

10 Real-World Blockchain Applications and Use Cases Beyond Cryptocurrency
10 Real-World Blockchain Applications and Use Cases Beyond Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency might be stealing all the headlines, but there are many more uses for blockchain technology beyond investing in digital coins. Indeed, blockchain has the potential to be just as ground-breaking as the internet was back in the 1990s.
But what exactly is blockchain technology used for, aside from cryptocurrency? Here are several real-world examples to wrap your mind around.
1. Protecting Endangered Species A combination of global warming and habitat loss means the world has seen its vertebrate population more than half in the last four decades. It’s the first mass extinction since the loss of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
Blockchain technology could be invaluable to people who are trying to protect endangered species. A Uganda-based NGO, Care for the Uncared, is working with blockchain specialists in London to create a new way to track and record species’ health, geographic location, and migration patterns.
2. Changing the Oil Markets Perhaps ironically, given that many people blame the petroleum industry for the decline of biodiversity in the world, a blockchain is also working to help oil companies in the United Arab Emirates to become more efficient.
In February 2018, S&P Global Platts (a global provider of commodities information) announced it would launch a blockchain-based oil storage reporting system in the UAE’s Fujairah Oil Industry Zone.
Thanks to its data validation capabilities, the blockchain will significantly reduce the need for regulatory oversight of data and will help to eliminate human error.
3. Electronic Voting Due to inherent issues with security and voting fraud, very few countries have made the switch to electronic voting machines (EVMs).
And that’s a shame. It’s hard to deny that EVMs make voting more accessible and thus have the potential to increase democratic participation. However, most countries have decided that the risks outweigh the positives.
Blockchain could offer a solution. A blockchain’s immutability means that issues such as double voting, vote altering, and vote deleting would be eradicated overnight. The blockchain would also remove the need for vote counting and lead to almost instantaneous results after the polls close.
4. Healthcare One of the sectors in which blockchain technology is proving to be most transformative is the healthcare industry. Experts suggest it will improve everything from patient record-keeping to supply chain tracking.
In September 2018, IBM’s blockchain division even announced plans for a new app that uses a private blockchain to allow users to retain complete control over their healthcare data. The app possibly paves the way for them to sell it at their own discretion in the future.
For more information on how blockchain is changing the healthcare landscape, check out Gavin’s article on blockchain in healthcare.
5. Gaming With the rise of in-game purchases and microtransactions, many gamers now have vast repositories of “stuff” connected to their various accounts. Clearly, this creates security issues. What happens if a hacker steals it? What happens if the parent’s company’s servers go offline? And so on.
By deploying a blockchain, gamers will finally be able to own these items outright and enjoy complete control over their status. Transferring in-game items to other people will become easier and more secure, and no one can maliciously replicate them.
Here’s how Ubisoft’s Lidwine Sauer told IGN about the security benefits of the upcoming gaming revolution:
“Thanks to the blockchain, we can now have the equivalent of a digital Picasso, with the advantage that it’s a lot more difficult to steal something on the blockchain than to steal a Picasso.”
6. Smart Contracts Smart contracts allow companies and individuals to create secure digital relationships. For example, a blockchain smart contract could underpin a complex legal transaction or an insurance agreement.
The hope is that a blockchain can reduce the need for intermediaries and consequently make such processes both more secure and cheaper.
I’m not going to dwell on the technical inner workings of these things, but if you’d like to learn more, read our article on how smart contracts work.
7. Fighting Fine Art Forgery Art forgery has existed for almost as long as art itself. But could blockchain technology finally help to beat the criminals definitively?
US company Verisart certainly thinks so. By using a blockchain, it has allowed both artists and owners to create museum-standard verifications online from their own home. At the moment, the app is invite-only. It should soon become available to everyone.
8. Tax Collection Look, we can’t have it both ways. While blockchains provide individuals with greater transparency and control of their data, they can do also do the same thing for governments. And that can only mean one thing—tax collection!
In China, authorities are now using a blockchain for both taxation and issuing electronic invoices. The project was put in place in 2017, with the first blockchain-based invoice on the system being created in August 2018 by a local restaurant.
9. Food Safety There is a litany of cases whereby a bad batch of food produce shut down an entire sector of the industry. The UK’s BSE crisis of the 1990s, China’s infant milk scandal in 2008, and the 2006 E. coli outbreak in North America all spring to mind.
Blockchain technology can help to reduce these types of instances by creating a massive database of the provenance of food, always with all the associated details. The transparency will improve food safety, cut costs, and reduce waste.
10. Computer Security Barely a week goes by without a news story about a data breach at a large organization. Hackers can react to exploits faster than companies, leading to an endless game of cat and mouse.
Blockchains might finally make the cat victorious. The technology has three key traits that lend themselves to cybersecurity: data that cannot be tampered with, decentralization, and cryptographic security.
One example of blockchain-based cybersecurity can be found at Guardtime.
The company, which is headquartered in Amsterdam, provides a keyless signature infrastructure via a blockchain. It decentralizes all the cryptographic keys, thus making them unhackable. Most companies use a public key infrastructure system. The keys are maintained by a central body where they are considerably more vulnerable to theft.
The Ongoing Revolution of the Blockchain These examples of companies using blockchain technology and other real-world blockchain applications only scratch the surface of a sector that’s ready to explode. Millions of dollars of research money are being invested—it’s only a matter of time until blockchains play a role in every aspect of our daily lives.
