In delay there lies no plenty.
The frustration is a sign of progressâa signal that your mind is processing complexity and requires more practice.
We are so deeply enmeshed in the mental state of âwant-ing,â we cannot shift to a state of âhaving.â
What happens when we start to chase what we really want: We resist doing the work that it takes to actually get it because we are so afraid of not having it, any brush with failure makes us rescind our effort and tense up.
We cry to God Almighty, how can we escape this agony? Fool, don't you have hands? Or could it be God forgot to give you a pair? Sit and pray your nose doesn't run! Or, rather just wipe your nose and stop seeking a scapegoat.
Why then are we offended? Why do we complain? This is what we're here for.
You already have the answers. You already know what youâre here to do. You are here to create everything that would make you happier than you can imagine. It is only a matter of quieting your mind enough so you can feel all of the unlimited potential that is begging you to be used.
There is a strange attitude and feeling that one is not yet in real life. For the time being one is doing this or that, but whether it is a woman or a job, it is not yet what is really wanted, and there is always the fantasy that sometime in the future the real thing will come about. If this attitude is prolonged, it means a constant inner refusal to commit oneself to the moment.
Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which sweeps me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.
Does this choice diminish me, or enlarge me?
In a world geared for hurry, the capacity to resist the urge to hurry â to allow things to take the time they take â is a way to gain purchase on the world, to do the work that counts, and to derive satisfaction from the doing itself, instead of deferring all your fulfilment to the future.
They couldnât stand the discomfort that arose from being forced to acknowledge their limited control over the speed of the creative process â and so they sought to escape it, either by not getting down to work at all, or by rushing headlong into stressful all-day writing binges, which led to procrastination later on, because it made them learn to hate the whole endeavour.
Indeed, no one can thwart the purposes of your mindâfor they canât be touched by fire, steel, tyranny, slander, or anything.
Do not rule over imaginary kingdoms of endlessly proliferating possibilities.
We treat our plans as though they are a lasso, thrown from the present around the future, in order to bring it under our command. But all a plan is â all it could ever possibly be â is a present-moment statement of intent. Itâs an expression of your current thoughts about how youâd ideally like to deploy your modest influence over the future. The future, of course, is under no obligation to comply.
Work nourishes noble minds.
Attention is the beginning of devotion.
