huntaer:

                                                   Once again, what Kaito did and what Kaito spoke didn’t match. Whatever you want, but Kaito had been angry after Zero did that exactly.

                                                  ❛ That’s not specific enough, ❜ he grumbled, eyebrows furrowed. His eyes focused on Kaito’s mouth because for now, that’s what he wanted.

                                                 He looked at Kaito in the eyes again after a moment.  ❛ I don’t want to break you, and I don’t want you to push me away. So tell me what it’s fine and what’s not… I’m capable of learning. ❜

                                                 A kiss under the ear. The hands on Kaito’s cheeks caressed the skin gently. And he would always be as gentle as he needed to be, if Kaito let him.

             Kaito smiled a little, the demon was too expressive sometimes, and he couldn’t help finding it funny and even cute. Turning his head to the side slightly just so he could place a kiss on the other’s hand that was on his cheek, he explained.

                                 “ It’s hard to think when you’re close ..... In a good way. “

           He got closer again and pressed a soft kiss on the demon’s lips. If he couldn’t think straight, he’d just give the easiest answer he was sure of, for now.

                                                      “ Can we kiss, for now? “

huntaer:

                                              ❛ I don’t know that, ❜ Zero replied after considering it for a moment. ❛ Jirou is quiet. Even so, they’re just kids… I doubt there’s a reason why they wouldn’t get along. ❜ 

                                               For some reason, Zero was recalled of the stupid arguments Kaito and Ichiru would get into when they were younger – something Ichiru never grew out of.

                                                If Benjamin and Jirou were to meet, Zero could only hope their relationship wasn’t so chaotic.

                                               ❛ Jirou… he’s a lot like my brother. His body is also frail… I’ve been to this hospital with him before. ❜

             Quiet didn’t really fit with Benji’s personality, but there were times in which he talked to Alex’s kid, which was pretty quiet himself, and they got along pretty well, Benjamin was always asking when would they visit.

              Kaito’s smile faded slightly as he heard about the kid’s health. He had lived this hell of going again and again to hospitals, staying and not knowing for how long, worrying everyone around. It could only be worse for a kid.

                                                “ But he’s being treated, right? “

              He remembered Ichiru being sick before, it changed and the boy got better and better as time went on, by the time Kaito and Zero were dating, he didn’t remember a time in which he had to be taken to the hospital in a hurry, just monthly checkups.

                                                   ❛ Hm, ❜  Zero started, but Kaito kissed him. Zero was more than happy to return it, despite their uncomfortable positions across the table. 

                                                   ❛ They’re not bad, ❜ he murmured later as they pulled back. He sat again on his chair and took another bite of the pancake.  ❛ Since when are you living here? ❜ 

                                                 There were a thousand other things he wanted to ask. Their only contact for the past years had been physical; there wasn’t a lot he knew from Kaito’s lifestyle and tastes and dreams. 

                                                   Even so, it wasn’t like him to ask for such things. 

                                                  He’d rather find out by himself, anyway, if he was allowed to spend more time with this person. Kaito was good at answering the questions Zero didn’t make, too  — or he used to, at least.

            Kaito sat back and cut a piece of the pancake he had on his plate as he tried to remember for how long had he been living there. It felt like forever, he remembered the struggle of finding a nice but cheap enough place, he remembered having to borrow some money from his brother in the beginning, and being afraid he was asking too much since Taito had a baby to raise...

                                           “ Since a little before my nephew was born.                                      I left so my brother could have his place with his family. “

             He took the food to his mouth and ate it. Things were pretty fine now, if he thought about it: he had gotten extra job teaching surfing, he had paid his brother back, he finally had a dog ─ something that wouldn’t happen if he was still at his brother’s place ─ and Zero was there.

                                                              “ Around three years ago. “

huntaer:

                                            Kaito’s mood changed the moment their eyes met. Zero’s expression betrayed him, maybe  — the look in Kaito’s face hurt.

                                            He took a pancake for himself, taking a bit and chewing slowly. Somehow, the taste was familiar.

                                            ❛ Hey, ❜ he murmured, and leaned forward towards Kaito. The table between them was annoying, but he managed to press their foreheads together.

                                            ❛ Thank you. ❜  He wasn’t talking about the pancakes. ❛ I… remember this taste. ❜

                                            He tilted his head slowly to kiss him, as if giving Kaito time to stop him if he didn’t want this.

                  Kaito turned to Zero for a good surprise, so he leaned forward to help his maybe-boyfriend with the table. He smiled at him, he could get over it if Zero didn’t like the pancakes he made, he himself didn’t like any other thing he cooked, but he’d probably lose it again if Zero just went back to how they were a day ago after a phone call.

                                                                      “ You liked it? “

               He asked but tilted his head to the opposite side of the silvette and pressed their lips together. Zero was there and they were fine, at least he believed that.

huntaer:

                                     Kaito was repeating himself. An attempt at keeping the conversation going or nervousness, but Zero was glad to have something to break the silence.

                                     Instead of answering, Zero grabbed his phone. He searched for the folder with his pictures, then clicked one with a young child.

                                      ❛ Jirou, if you don’t know about him, ❜ he said, putting the phone on Kaito’s hands so he could see it. ❛ Ichiru’s son. ❜

                                      Talking about Ichiru had been awkward, before. It wasn’t better now, but Jirou had done nothing against Kaito. More than that, the kid had been his source of rare happiness for the past years.

                                     ❛ He’s four now. ❜

                   Kaito held the phone but took some more seconds to understand he was supposed to look at it. When he did, he noticed many pictures of Jirou. He had seen some of them before, thanks to Alex and Keiji that had kept him updated in everything.

                   The phone was the same Zero had when they broke up, that meant the silvette hadn’t changed much, as Kaito had already noticed. He took his time looking at all the pictures and smiled at most of them, Jirou looked a lot like Ichiru, which implied he looked a lot like Zero, too.

                                              “ He’s cute. You think they’d get along? He and Benji... “

                                    Kaito kissed him. Zero didn’t waste time, hands moving to warm cheeks and lips pressing hard against Kaito’s. A dark tail wagged behind him, happy.

                                    ❛ You are, ❜ he mumbled between kisses. ❛ Messing with me. ❜ Kiss, kiss. Kaito’s skin was hot under his palms; his hands didn’t move when he pulled away.

                                    ❛ What you want from me… what I’m allowed to do, and what I’m not.                                                                               Just say it. ❜

                 Kaito enjoyed the kiss and the touch, he deepened the kiss and made it last as long as he could. Eventually they pulled away, Zero was talking, how did he had breath enough to talk..... Well, being a demon.

                The answers to what Zero wanted to know were hard and conflicting. For both of them, he supposed. He wanted the demon to see and deal with things like a woman would, but he also wanted him to do all the things demons did.

                                                               “ Whatever you want.... “

                 The human said, as he got his lips close to the demon’s once again.

                   “ It was really on the lips!! “

                          “ Wait...... Does this means you two will finally marry? “

           “ Nico gave me a kiss! On the lips! “

                   “ You sure it was on the lips? Not on the cheek, close enough to the lips? “

HEY UNCLE GUESS WHAT

                  “ Hey kid, what happened this time? “

huntaer:

                                             ❛ Your soul is mine. As long as we have a contract, I’m not going anywhere. You couldn’t escape me even if you wanted. ❜

                                              He took a step forward, successfully closing the space between them and pressing Kaito against the wall. 

                                               ❛ Even so… demons don’t get attached the way humans do, so don’t fool yourself. ❜ The lie was sour on his tongue. It hurt that it shouldn’t be a lie. It also hurt that it shouldn’t hurt. 

                                              ❛ That’s why I don’t get… why you don’t get out of my head. I shouldn’t feel a thing, yet I…. ❜ 

                                              A cold thumb traced Kaito’s bottom lip slowly. He leaned in.

                                              ❛ Do you realize how much you’re messing with me? ❜

                     It was never about Kaito getting away. He knew that from the moment he decided to make a deal, but it was for his brother, so he was fine with giving his soul or whatever it took.

                    Zero got closer again and Kaito held his breath until the demon’s words hurt more than they were supposed to, and the brunette frowned. Fooling himself was a good way to put it, but Kaito wasn’t there to listen to it. As soon as he decided to move away tho, the silvette started talking about something else.

                    Kaito was incapable of saying or doing anything. Zero’s finger was on his lip, and they reminded the human about how the demon’s lips felt cold against his. He wanted more of that, he wanted more of him, and he was pretty sure he was the one being messed with.

                                                                                   “ I’m not...... “

                   And he was moving his head forwards, pressing his lips against Zero’s. Be that the demon’s power or not, he wanted it.

                                          ❛ No…                                                             I’ll tell her later. ❜

                                            It would be easier to tell his parents than Ichiru  — that much he knew. Ichiru had always been vocal about his distaste for Kaito; according to him, Kaito’s confirmation as a jerk when he left Zero proved everything he’d been saying for years.

                                            Zero didn’t know how to tell him that he was opening his heart to Kaito, the Jerk again. He figured he could worry about it later, but it wasn’t something he could avoid forever. Not when he was offering Kaito a place to stay.

                                              He accepted a cracker from him, the silence getting heavy between them as he stared at it.

                                              ❛ How long are you going to stay here? ❜

             Kaito went back to eating as soon as the silvette got the cracker he offered him. Things were weird between them, and they’d stay weird for a while, all he could do was hope they’d change for better when they did.

                                                  “ The doctor didn’t tell you anything? Usually takes one or two nights, I’m fine enough this time, he should let me out by the end of the day. “

            He finished the snacks and was satisfied enough to wait for a proper meal. The silence between them was the worst that could happen, so Kaito forced himself to start talking about the first thing that hit his head.

                                                       “ Benjamin has grown a lot.... “

                                     Zero sat down as requested, picking the chair closest to the wall so he could lean against it. Closer to Kaito, the scent of smoke was stronger now, but Zero put his worries aside. It wasn’t his business.

                                     Ichiru’s harsh words echoed in his head as he watched Kaito cook. He remembered every morning he had woken up alone on his cousin’s bedroom, a reality now vaguely distant. He remembered the way Kaito would look at him one year ago — one week ago  — one day ago.

                                       He forced himself to keep his hopes down. 

                                      When Kaito put the last pancake on the pile and turned to him, Zero had to recall how to act like himself. A plain expression, detachment, fake disinterest – yet inside, he was a mess.

              Kaito’s smile faded slowly as he noticed the silvette’s expression. It shouldn’t be the one when there were pancakes in front of him, shouldn’t be the one after they had enjoyed their time together for the first time after years of resentment.

            It could only be the phone call. The fact Ichiru didn’t like him was clear for Kaito, it was the reason he and Zero had stayed away from one another for so long the past years. 

           Was it happening again....?

           The brunette looked away before taking a seat in front of Zero and grabbing a pancake for himself. He ate it paying so little attention to the taste he couldn’t say if he had made a good or a bad one. He hoped they were good, maybe Zero would stay for a little longer if they were.

huntaer:

                                    It was Ichiru. Zero almost preferred it was Keiji, given that he could hang up as soon as his cousin started making stupid questions. Ichiru didn’t make it easier  –  either questions about things he had to intentions to share with his brother, or insults toward Kaito. Zero hung up eventually, aware that he’d have to deal with it again when he got home. 

                                  It had happened before, after other parties with Kaito involved. Zero wasn’t a mess this time, but he didn’t know how to tell Ichiru that things had become different.

                                  He left to the stairs eventually, vaguely remembering Kaito signaling him to go there during his phone conversation. Kaito had a frying pan on his hands and only his underwear on, body turned to the stove.

                                 The sight was fine, and Zero leaned against the entrance of the kitchen as he watched him silently.

                      Kaito was almost done with his cigarette, a pile of pancakes a on the plate already, when he noticed the silvette at the door. He stubbed the cigarette out, in case it bothered Zero, and smiled at him.

                                                          “ I’m almost done, take a seat. “

                     He turned his attention back to the pancakes, glancing once in a while at his guest. The night before, he had left to Keiji’s party thinking he’d end things with Zero for real, now the silvette was at his kitchen, wearing his clothes, while Kaito made them pancakes.

                                                              A problem…  Zero didn’t know if Kaito was referring to their relationship or to Zero’s proposal from before.

                                      It didn’t matter. The answer was the same.

                                     ❛ It’s not a problem, ❜ he said simply. One arm extended to Kaito’s face, his thumb gently taking crumbs from the corner of Kaito’s mouth for a moment. It was easy  — as if he did it out of habit, as if they’d always been like this.

                                     He realized his mistake two seconds later, hand quickly retreating back to Zero’s pocket. He felt suffocated not knowing what he was allowed to  – not knowing what he should do or say, or what he wanted. 

                                     ❛ I… told my mother where I am. ❜

                 Kaito stopped for a moment as the silvette retreated, and smiled. He missed that, being close enough for things to just happen naturally. He still loved Zero, and things just became more and more clear as he spent time with him again.

                                                     “ Did you tell her about the disease? “

                  It was a normal, daily topic for Kaito after years dealing with it. Years before, he had been struggling to tell his brother about his exam’s results and hide any symptom from other people.

                   He offered one of the crackers to Zero, hoping it’d make the other feel a little more comfortable around him. It’d take time for the silvette to get used to him again, he supposed, and Kaito would never complain. He’d wait patiently.

                                     ❛ —– But what? ❜

                                      He saw Kaito’s face getting closer, but he wasn’t letting him yet. A cold hand was put against Kaito’s mouth, and Zero fixed his gaze on him.

                                      ❛ It’s fine if you don’t want this…. I don’t blame you. ❜

                                      He knew that what he did felt amazing. Demons were made for it. Unfortunately, demons weren’t great at feelings, and Zero wasn’t going to resent Kaito for wanting better. 

                                       (He was, but it might go away eventually. It’d hurt more to have this, only for it to be taken away when Kaito died.)

                   Kaito frowned when he had his kiss denied and pulled away. It was weird, tho, to see Zero behaving like this. He was a demon, and demons didn’t have feelings, so why would he look so hurt about their relationship?

                                                       “ I just don’t want you to leave. “

                  He replied, and moved a little further away from the silvette, enough to rest his back on the wall by the bed. He was stupid for getting attached to a demon after reading so much about them, he knew their nature, he knew what they wanted from people, and yet he fell for one.

huntaer:

                                                     Kaito grabbed his shirt, and Zero stopped. If he was confused before, he was even more now.

                                                    ❛ I don’t get you… ❜  There was a frown on his face.  ❛ Let go if you don’t want me here. ❜

                                                    He doubted that was the case. Kaito was angry at something Zero said or did, whatever it was.

                                                    ❛  I’m not touching you again if you don’t want me to. ❜

                                                    He doubted Kaito didn’t want that, either, given his reactions before. 

                                                    ❛ If I did something, just say it… ❜

             Kaito, obviously, didn’t let go, but he looked away and bit his lip as soon as the demon started talking again. This time, Zero was right,but it wasn’t easy to tell him why he was behaving like this.

            He wondered for a second if he could just change the subject, but it was unlikely, so he nodded, affirming he’d tell the silvette the truth.

                                                                          “ ..... “

            He pulled the silvette back to the bed and sat on the edge, not letting go of the shirt to make sure Zero was staying.

                             “ You did nothing wrong. Everything you did felt amazing, but.... “

           He still didn’t know how to say it, so he pulled his face closer to the demon’s, hoping another kiss before he had to explain himself was allowed.

huntaer:

                                               ❛ It’s almost dinner time… I can go ask how long it’s going to take before they bring your food.  ❜ 

                                               Then he searched his pockets for crackers - plain, healthy ones he had gotten from the vending machine. He hadn’t bought them to himself, aware that Kaito might be hungry when he woke up. 

                                                He just hoped it was fine for Kaito to eat them. He didn’t know the specifications of his sickness – what he could eat, what medicine he had to take, how it affected his life besides passing out in the street.

                                                 ❛ Eat this while you wait, ❜ he said, opening the pack and putting it on Kaito’s hands.  ❛ Unless there’s specific food for you. ❜

          Hospital food tasted like boredom, when Kaito was at Hawaii, he couldn’t wait to go home and eat something Esmeralda cooked, or anyone but his brother, really. Now he wondered if Zero still cooked, probably yes. He remembered the silvette was really good at cooking...

                                                                “ Oh...! “

           He wasn’t expecting that, the crackers packet wasn’t even opened, which meant Zero was, probably, buying those for Kaito.

                                                            “ Thanks, I can eat anything. “

         He took one of the crackers to his mouth and ate it. They didn’t have any special taste, really, but they’d be enough to keep Kaito from complaining about his hunger, and he really appreciated Zero’s gesture.

                                   “ ...... You sure it won’t be a problem? Me, staying with you... “
