Alleyoop follows Oliver Green, a broken man using his comedy set as a twisted attempt at therapy. One night after boarding the subway home, he stumbles upon a chance to fix his past and salvage his present. But Oliver quickly learns that in order to get on the right path, he'll need to confront who he is more than who he was.

I also love how audio fiction has always been a highly experimental medium, and likely always will be.
Financially, it has a low barrier for entry, a low point of diminishing returns, and a relatively small potential market. It's basically impervious to being taken over by giant studios - even the "big" networks like RQ would be considered indie in the film or game dev industries. With the exception of the BBC, they tend to dip their toes into audio fiction, figure out quickly that, although it's beloved by its fans, there isn't that kind of money in it, and proceed to leave us alone forever.
Then there's the fact that it propagates largely by word of mouth. Audio dramas owe everything to obsessive nerds forcing nearly everyone they know to listen to that podcast they just discovered.
So it's more about the thing being actually good, plus a decent amount of luck and persistence.
There's no optimally marketable success formula being relentlessly enforced by gatekeeping jellybean-counters because they don't exist here. So people make whatever they want. So it draws people to it who are looking for something different. And the cycle feeds itself, and the medium gets weirder (in a good way).
It may very well ALWAYS remain the wild west of storytelling.
So listeners tell your friends about that podcast!
And creators, make the weird thing! There are no rules! It can be an hour long or Breaker Whiskey short, or Re:Dracula all over the place length. It can be another tape recorder framing or another voicemail framing or basically just an audiobook. It can be any genre or blend of genres. This creative space gives us the opportunity to be our own target audience in a way rarely found elsewhere.
If you enjoy the thing you're making, odds are somone else out there will enjoy it too. I've already found this to be true, and my time as an audio fiction creator is still just beginning.

i don't think i've ever actually done a "proper" audio drama sunday post on here at any point bc something about it felt ?? scary somehow??? but this has been a pretty good listening week for me & i do always keep a record of my listening regardless so i thought i might just be brave and give it a go :>
Audio Drama Sunday 26/07/26
đ¸my main focus at the moment & the bulk of my listening this week has been is scifi improv comedy Mission To Zyxx, which i've been working through at varying speeds for the past year or so now (i'm making a physical listening diary of all my thoughts & reactions as a gift for a dear friend. it's a whole Thing xoxo). this week i listened to most of the first half of the final season (501: O Others, Who Art Thou?! through to 510: The Pest of Both Worlds - Pt. 1) plus some between-season/behind-the/scenes bonus episodes. despite the fact i'm definitely missing a staggering amount of star trek references this season, the show has continued to delight me, as it has consistently the entire time i've listened. the music & sound design has been fantastic throughout but in this fifth & final season it's better than ever before. i'm very excited to see this story through to the end & am so pleased to have finally met the famed Sea Captain, who i have been hearing about secondhand for years now (!!) & cannot wait to see how it all plays out :D
aside from that ongoing quest (or i guess you could also say.. that Mission.)(âŚ,to zyxx.....), i've been doing my best to catch up on & keep up with other shows i love, though there's only so much time in each day </3
đ continuing on a comedy thread, i caught up on the most recent few eps of G.O.B.L.I.N.S ! which i can always rely on for a good & silly time - i'm really enjoying how the characters & their relationships are all coming together, & honestly a little personally proud of elizabeth for how far she's come in such a short time :') there was a scene with a distant church bell that had me confused for several mins because it sounded just like my actual local one but i think that just shows how well-done the sound design is <3hehe
đââď¸ i also listened to eps 6-8 of Something's Amiss at Juniper's House for some proper evening horror listening <3 it's interesting to come back to this after i initially listened to the first 5 eps a little while ago on a Very Long bus+then train ride, so returning to the characters felt almost like i was back in transit despite the fact i was just walking around my house. which was odd. but i think it added to the overall atmosphere. & interesting to observe how memory can do these kinds of things (thematically appropriate? maybe? tehe) also wow i am lovinggg each and every piece of gorgeous episode art that comes out
𦴠Eeler's Choice ep 11 featured some very satisfying/stressful/well-executed peril & moments that had me clapping my hands & gasping aloud in equal measure, alongside music & sound design that reliably has me closing my eyes to really Feel the impact of it all. good shit. love me some polypore puppetry
đ i also caught the 3rd of Shelterwood's weekly relistens (happening in the Podcast Book Club discord đ). i've listened many times before but it's always fun to have a scheduled listening party with other people, especially when those people happen to have made the thing !! & are providing behind-the-scenes commentary !!! i've personally been reading along with the in-character annotated transcripts for these, which is really enriching my experience of the characters as well as hitting me with consistent emotional poison damage. (in a good and cool and fun way. <3)
that's all for fiction this week (i say as if that's not like 18 hours total listening time) but i did also catch the first audio issue of EAR*WAX magazine which i am absolutely LOVING. so so nice to hear about these things from people who really clearly really care. enthusiasm comes across so obviously in every aspect of the thing & it took me much longer than its runtime to get through because i had to pause and immediately follow up on Every Single Music Recommendation. all such good stuff. really glad this exists. :)

Happy Audio Drama Sundayyyyyy it is so hot. Everyone stop using oil. Maybe we can head off climate change in time for me to go to work tomorrow. And if we canât, well, at least we have audio drama.
đ˝ These last few episodes of Alice Isnât Dead have been CHILLING. I do really love those very American things like the corn palace (Did you know itâs kind of a community project?), and to use those things to introduce the real threat of this season, the cold lack of morality presented by curiosityâŚIâm starting to see why weâre not telling Alice.
đŽ The Adventure Zone will never be Balance again (who else up crying their eyes out about the graphic novel?), but this series, Royale, is so freakin good. Griffin is just really good at setting up a metaphor. Oh you want ultimate power by killing off the competition? Yeah it turns out that the competition is just there to harvest you. No winners. The founders wanted to save the world without being self-sacrificial and what they created ate them alive. This certainly has no relevance to now.
đ¤ I loooooooved the @storiesfromylelmore Q&A. Anyone who follows ItMe! knows that they talk about their little brother often, and I can really feel that tone and compassion in the way they talk to the characters, even up to and including protecting them from things theyâre not ready for yet. Itâs a sort of kindness and I love it.

Audio Drama Sunday - 26 July
đš G.O.B.L.I.N.S â Episode 6 - Bard Song, Birds Nest, Devils Bargain: the jump from âbecause the Pope is a stupidââ to Elisar finally saying a good insult is iconic. Also, Tripeâs comparison of humans to poems. Itâs great that Tripe is actually pretty observant and competent; it really adds to the humour when he says something ridiculous.
đŞ The Reality Shaper â The Monsters: Nancy has finally been introduced, and sheâs wonderful. The song between her and Boris is quick, catchy and delightfully ironic. Also, CBâs prayer to Loki was very atmospheric and Boris even shows a bit of a sense of humour. Letâs not think about the ending until the next episode comes out.
đš @theredactedunit â Postmortem: Prodigy (Part 1) - S1E25: Prodigy (Part 2): I love a character whoâs just a really good person. Theyâre not that common outside of kids books, but Jacob does everything right in this episode. He doesnât take the route that most movie protagonists would take, and heâs so determined to help people! That leaves a really big cliffhanger for the next episode â but at least thereâs more evil Jonathan Sims to look forward to.

I donât consider myself much of a music fan, but I love EAR*WAX for introducing me to songs that I wouldnât otherwise have heard of.
