Wow this blog is a delight! Ignorance about eastern europe increasingly manifests itself as everyone is talking about the ukraine lately and it's funny and also extremely frustrating that people still have no clue about the basics of this region. I'm Hungarian by the way and i have a hard time putting on a smile whenever people reply by asking me if im hungry. It was you who named us incorrectly after the huns so that joke is wrong on multiple levels.

omg this blog is just what I needed today, a pick-me-up. Some Leninists were going on about how the early Soviet Union imperialism was okay because those countries were part of the Russian empire at the time of the revolution and I was really pissed. Thank you. <3

I strongly encourage people from/fans of those South-east Asian islands to create a meme and vent their frustration at ignorant fucks like me who don't know a thing about said islands, I won't be mad nor send them silencing messages, promise. Except I simply don't talk about things I don't know and I use google. EEES mocks people who are vocally, unrepentantly ignorant but too lazy to check. And they probably insist they're quite knowledgeable about "Europe". By which they mean Western Europe.

You seem to have a somewhat VENOMOUS view of ignorance of Eastern Europe, especially if it's from the West. It must be frustrating, but some of these posts seem a little unfair. I mean, do you know the name and history of every country in Africa? Or South America? If I gave you a map of the islands in Southeast Asia, could you fill in all the names perfectly? It's fine to take pride in your culture or interest, and to tell others about it. But getting angry that they don't already know it all...

Anyways, well, the thing is, not all of the memes on the blog are made by the mods themselves. Most of them, in fact, are user submissions and often, the submitters are from the countries in question.

I love your blog :) I am originally from Ukraine (Poltava) and I now live in the US, and when I tell people where I am from they say "Where's that?" or "Oh, that's in Russia, right?" and when I tell them otherwise I have also heard "Same damn country" Ugh, annoying lol

I'm sure that is annoying and I'm terribly sorry you have to deal with such ignorance.

I just wanted to let you know that I will be posting a lot about the Srebrenica massacre on my blog this week in honor of the 17th anniversary. I am telling you because I'm sure you have many followers who are much more knowledgeable on the subject than I am, and I hope that they will be able to add to my posts, or correct them if I make an error. A lot of the information out there is biased and I want to be as objective as possible. Thanks :)

Not just Jews and Slavs and everyone to the East was excluded from being "white." My family comes from all over the place in Europe - Lithuania and virtually every country to the north/south/west of it - and we went from NONE of us being "white" to ALL of us being "white" over the course of 60 years. Even being Irish or Scottish - especially if you were Catholic - got you excluded from this particular club; thus marrying a Native American didn't reduce you in status, which is why I exist. ;)
