a disclaimer before i explain the meaning of this piece - this is NOT ship art. they could never be romantically involved. like. ever! the nudity is entirely non-sexual so don't be weird.

anyways, explanation of the symbolism of this piece is under the cut :)

essentially, these two are mirror images of each other. that has been the point of layla since she was created - she is a mirror of marius. why? multiple reasons: it expresses adrik’s subconscious desires to be with marius (he dates layla because she is so similar to him), and it provides both marius and layla chances to look inward based on their perception of each other.

when theyre together, they are stripped down to their base human instincts - hence the nudity. ultimately, when alone, they are their purest selves around each other. obviously this is terrifying for two people who are equally stubborn and closed off. neither of them (usually) want to be ‘known’ in that manner, yet they are forced to be. marius acknowledges this vulnerability. he directs his gaze towards layla, and holds onto her, pulling her closer. layla does not. she deliberately ignores him, directing her gaze towards the camera - yet she does nothing to stop him from touching her.

marius is intrigued but disgusted, having to face his own shittiness in the form of another human being. layla is not prepared to face her issues, and wants nothing to do with him.

finally their bodies are transparent-ish because 1. its cool…... 2. it showcases that they cant hide their true selves from each other no matter how hard they try. and 3. theres a bible reference in there somewhere look for it
