My Last Argument

The last argument I had was actually this weekend with a friend of mine who randomly approached me and asked if I had voted for Donald Trump (as if it was her business to know in the first place.) I told her that I had voted for him, and she started immediately rambling on and on about all this nonsense and started questioning MY VIEWS and OUR FRIENDSHIP over my vote for Donald Trump. Liberals man... Anyways, long story short, I put her little rant to an end by simply and calmly*** explaining my reasonings for voting for Trump. It shut her up really quick. Keep in mind, this girl who challenged my views didn't** even** vote**. She didn't even express her right to vote for the candidate of her choice. I was very angry to say the least.

Research Paper Comparison

The research paper that we have been working on - leading up to in this class is similar, yet different from research papers that I had to complete in high school. In high school, I remember being assigned research papers that were due 2-3 weeks after the date she assigned us the paper. Over the next week or so our teacher would use class time to go over it, give us guidelines, answer questions, and even let us go to the library to do some of the needed research for our paper. The research paper being done now for my ENG 1020 class is very similar because Mrs. Simms has done everything I just stated in the last sentence; the only difference being that we have been working on this paper for the entire semester (4-5 months.) Also, my research papers in high school had to be anywhere from 2-3 pages in length, with around 2-4 sources for the paper. My current research paper i’m doing now has to be a minimum of 8 pages with 10 different sources, so it definitely requires much more research, as well as understanding my sources so that I can accurately incorporate them into my paper where they need to be to make sense to my audience.

Counter Argument

I am arguing that the Stand Your Ground law should be implemented into every state in the U.S. for reasons such as all citizens should be able to defend themselves, criminals should not be able to take control of the situation and possibly hurt innocents, and every citizen should be authorized to use deadly force in the event that their life, or the life of others, are in danger.

The counterargument to this would be that the Stand Your Ground law is unnecessary, and that the person involved in the dangerous situation is supposed to flee instead of defending themselves through use of deadly force. Many people may argue that under no circumstances is it ever okay to end the life of another person, even if that means that their life would end because they chose not to take any action.

Addressing the Counter Argument: I understand partly what the counterargument is saying, because under no circumstances do I think ending the life of another is okay without***reason****. That’s why specifically under the Stand Your Ground law, the right to use deadly force is okay in the event that you or someone else around you is in danger. When is comes down to it, you must take whatever necessary action in order to preserve the life of yourself. Does that mean that if someone steals your jacket off of your chair in a restaurant that you should shoot them? Absolutely not. But if someone is robbing you at YOUR house on YOUR property and there is any chance that you could be hurt, I believe that you have every reason to stop that person in the act, even if that means lethally.

My Spring Break

On Monday last week, I drove down to Destin, Florida to spend 6 days at a friend of mine’s beach house with 12 other guys and girls. To summarize my spring break quickly; it was awesome. The beach house was on the bay so his backyard was literally on the water, and it had a dock and boat. We spent time going to the beach, hanging out on his dock, going out to eat, meeting new people, and other extracurricular activities. The first couple of nights was rough because there were 12 people in this one house that only had 4 bedrooms, and the rooms weren’t all that big at all. But by Thursday people started to leave so there was more and more room each day. I spent way too much money this spring break, but it was well worth it. Another cool thing is that since my brother is still in high school and his school’s spring break is the week after mine, I will most likely be going back to the beach again at the end of this week. Overall, I had a really great spring break.

Imminent Harm

In any situation where something life threatening is about to potentially happen to you, you must take the stand to fight back, even if this means killing the threat. It’s said that killings in this manner are only justified in the event that imminent harm is present, but what would be considered imminent harm? Obviously if someone has a gun pointed at you or if someone is running at you with a knife it’s imminent harm, but what about a situation such as the one in TWD when Carol kills the sick people in the prison? They weren’t physically threatening Carol or the others in the prison, they were sick and that was it. However, there death seemed to be near, which means.....they were going to be Walkers soon (that’s a threat on its own.) Not only that, but there sickness could also potentially spread to other healthy people within the prison. I think Carol’s actions were justified. It may not seem morally right because the sick people weren’t actually causing any harm, but Carol did what was necessary to survive. This goes hand in hand with the real world as well. If something or someone is threatening your life or the lives of others around you, you must take action.

Draft a Position Statement

2,3) As of right now, I believe that killing can in deed be justified. There are several different arguments that can take place relating to this topic, but the fact of the matter is that I**** believe that it can be justified. If someone is holding a knife to your throat, is it not okay for your friend to shoot your attacker? If a serial killer rapes and murders 30 innocent people, is it not fair to say he deserves capital punishment? There are too many different instances where the killing of another person is just the right thing to do. I’m not saying that I think killing other people is okay because it’s not. It’s a horrible thing, BUT if it’s going to be my life or yours, best believe i’m going to do whatever it takes to keep my life. Killing is justifiable in many cases.

My Longest Research Project

My longest research project that I have ever done actually took place last year, my senior year of high school. From what I remember, the project consisted of 3 parts. I’m not even sure if this would be considered to be a research project but i’m going to tell you anyway. We got in groups of 6-7 people and were assigned a specific scene of the play Macbeth. Our job as a group was to analyze the scene we were assigned, and 1) Recreate the scene by acting it out on film. 2) Make a Prezi discussing and going in depth with what that scene was about. 3) Write a 2-3 paper on the different symbols in our scene and what they meant. Only the recreation of the scene on film was with the group, the last 2 things were to be done individually. I had read Macbeth, but didn’t know much about it. I had to do a bunch of research and look up articles on my scene. The Prezi and the paper both had to be turned in with a minimum of 3 sources each. We had about 2 months to do all 3 of the assignments, and I spent the majority of that time just researching information. This research project actually ended up being really fun.

Woodbury

To be honest, as corrupt as the governor and Woodbury really is, I would do whatever I had to do to live there with them. In these times shelter, food, and protection (people with guns) from walkers is relatively hard to find. I would sacrifice and give up whatever I had to give up in order to become a part of their settlement. Knowing that I would always have food, a shower, and a safe place to sleep is more than enough incentive for me to do whatever is necessary to stay in Woodbury. With this being said, what if I had stumbled upon the truth that the governor killed innocents, kept zombie heads, and was just an overall evil person? This may sound wrong of me, but I just wouldn’t care. People are dying daily, fighting for their lives, and struggling to find food or shelter. I don’t are how bad the governor is, if he isn't going to hurt ME and he’s going to provide me with food and shelter, he can do whatever he wants to do. You have to do what you have to do in order to survive.

Randall: To Kill or?

If I were in the position to make the call of whether Randall is executed or is allowed to live, I would let him live. Even though it has already become evident that the group of people he was originally with is dangerous, you can’t just kill another human. The human race is depleting fast, and we would have to do whatever possible to keep the human race alive. Instead of killing Randall, I think that they should just let him live on the farm with no access to weapons of any sort. It would probably be a good idea to have someone escort him at all times as well. You never know, Randall could end up being a very contributing member of the group. Randall could become a member of Rick’s group just as quick as when he became a member of his last group. Give the kid a chance. Rick’s group doesn’t know the kid well enough to just execute him without any chance to prove himself.

Looping

Should men always be looked at for leadership? It’s pretty much a stereotypical thing that whenever a group of people are together and trial occurs that needs to be overcome, the men are always looked at to take the role of the leader. Why is this? I personally believe that women are just as capable of being strong leaders as men are. Many times, I think women have a better mind set as opposed to men. Men seem to love acting on instinct and to do what seems best at that particular moment. Sometimes, you need to look at the bigger picture and act on what will be best in the long run. Women seem to stay calmer in times of difficulty, which can play a crucial part in decision making.

Women have proven themselves worthy of leadership positions for a long time now. Whether it be in high political offices, top CEO’s in major companies, etc. There is no problem with women being leaders as they have proven themselves to be worthy no doubt.

Project - Brainstorming

The topic of whether there is such thing as a murder being justifiable interests me personally in this project we are about to do. I like this topic because it can be very easily argued. There will always be people who say, “Well yeah, that man murdered his entire family. He deserves to die.” On the flip side, people will say, “That’s a terrible thing that he did. He deserves life in prison, but you can’t just kill the man because of it.” I plan to go into detail about both sides of the argument, which will be interesting because I will be able to see and read about what others have to say about the same topic via the sources I chose to use. I think another reason this topic interests me is because I believe there is really no right or wrong answer. As of right now, I have no say in whether I believe there is such thing as a justifiable murder or not. By the end of this project, I hope to have gathered enough knowledge to be able to make a decision on whether I believe one thing or another.
