“I’ve never heard of the Hybrid trial.” Ebony debated how to state her next question, not wanting to give the wrong impression. “Were there many of you?” She hoped it didn’t sound wrong as she spoke.
Ebony nodded at her statement; everyone had something they felt needed fixing. She was glad that she ate more now, and quietly sat, scraping more yogurt onto her spoon.
Annalee snorted. “Barely anyone knew; it was kept under tight wraps. InGen made sure of that.” The next question, despite it being innocent enough, caused her to flinch. She stayed silent for a few moments, staring at the ground as she ate the chicken, debating on whether or not to answer. Then, with a sigh, she rasped, “I don’t know how many were created in total, but in the final trial, my trial, there were three others; four, including me.”
She was thankful for the silence that followed, leaving her to eat in peace. The food tasted good and she could feel her body perking up with the new found energy, but she still felt hollow. As much as she would hate to admit it, it still hurt to speak of her siblings, and she had to hold back a growl at her weakness, or what she saw as weakness.
Ebony smiled slightly at her laugh, but when she flinched Ebony kept sure to be still, not wanting to be a prying eye while Annalee looked to be gathering herself. Ebony nodded at her statement. As they stayed silent she tried thinking of a way to break the ice. Something else to share and not for her to see Ebony as a hostile force. She watched her eat a while longer before she spoke.
“I remember a lot about my siblings. I had two sisters, Jessica and Marie. God, they were such pains, but I loved them all the time and liked them most days. They were a lot of fun, and most of our adventures made the stains on clothes to prove it.” She paused. “I remember their screams the best.” She whispered the last part to herself, but she was sure the woman in front of her heard it. She shook her head. “Sorry, that went a really morbid turn.” She spoke in a lighter tone then.
