This is the last day I’ll be collecting data for my master’s thesis survey. I have 397 responses right now and the irrational perfectionist in me would really like to get over 400 because I’m SO. CLOSE. The survey is anonymous and takes about 15 minutes. It’s for anyone who worked in an organized setting with children birth through age five.
A picture that sums up my daycare kids perfectly. I’m going to miss them so much when they go to kindergarten this fall.
Daycare Diaries #14
Today I smashed my finger trying to adjust a ride/push toddler toy from push to ride… I now have a bruise under my fingernail.

When teaching involves way too much paperwork and things that don’t really seem to help students
too real.
Nerds of the Future
A lot of the stuff that makes me want to run out and just spend crazy money (Lego Mindstorms, Raspberry Pi) is many years advanced for my preschoolers. So, how to I rig their interests so that I can buy that fun stuff later? Introducing robots, programming, and tinkering for toddlers.
Run A Maze Program Create a maze out of paper, index cards, or chalk. Get your kids to come up with a “sequence” for the animal to run to get to the end. Programming for preschoolers!
Build An ArtBot Create toys from junk, either motorized or not. This little ArtBot is made from wine cork, electrical tape, popsicle sticks, and a plastic cup. But we’ve made even simpler things, like this ball bouncer using a plastic bottle, rubber bands, and a string.
See How Toys Work Grab a screw driver and start taking some old toys apart to see how they work. Tinker, improve, and dismantle.
One thing I have been working on the most, since last year, is my classroom management. I feel like I have grown SO much and am getting closer to becoming the classroom manager I want to be. The behaviorist that visits my classroom for one of my students said something to me today that made me feel like I am where I want to be.
“I like how you run your class. You’re stern but also soft spoken and sweet. It is perfect.”
That is what I wanted to be. Made my day.
When the library drops iff 50 books for our school to keep forever….. <3 #literacy
I just had my first experience of accidentally stepping on a toddler’s toy and it making a rather loud noise while he’s napping and being afraid I just woke him.
And as I preceded to continue walking to the bathroom it started singing.
