WU The Series ep5
y'all the pictures pete took are hella cute
one of my absolute favorite scenes from episode five was yok being the first one to get back in place after being devoured by the fog of manipulation. it shows that she really is the rhythm of the team. that she started hitting the drum once again to gather her people up and continue the ritual until her hands bled. she is so fucking cool.
Wu 巫; Easter Eggs from #WUTheSeriesEP5
Omfg I love love love today's episode. Still can't believe EP 5 is over!
千里繫魂 (Qiān Lǐ Jì Hún) : Connecting Souls through thousand miles Niran was prepping the dolls for the soul-binding ritual for the couple in EP3.
Jumping all the way to the part they started strategizing the best auspicious time for the ritual Each hour does not only have a zodiac representation, but also an element representation; There are 5 elements; which can clash or act together to produce another element. Nourishing: Wood -> Fire -> Earth -> Metal -> Water Clashing: Water -> Fire -> Metal -> Wood -> Earth Water vs. Fire: Water extinguishes Fire. Fire vs. Metal: Fire melts Metal. Metal vs. Wood: Metal chops/dulls Wood. Wood vs. Earth: Wood drains/parts Earth. Earth vs. Water: Earth muddies/blocks Water. In this case, Fire will turn Metal and create Water. (Think of it as melting metal into liquid)
First Auspicious Hour Master Tong gave was: Month of Dog, Day of Cow/Ox, Hour of Dragon ->Earth + Earth + Earth = very grounding and blocks water. However, since Qi Rong is of Metal element, not Water element Second Auspicious timing Master Tong gave: Month of Dog, Day of Snake, Hour of Horse ->Earth + Fire + Fire = Fire melts metal to create water, earth blocks water.
Onward to the ritual! As mentioned previously: 祭 (Jì) - Sacrificial offerings for Qi Rong The writing here isn't correct, but for superstition's sake, I'm kinda glad they didn't write correctly, just in case.
Niran gave Pete his Jade Necklace!!! \\(T~T) 平安扣 (Píng Ān Kòu): A Jade Pendant Buckle that gives protection and peace; Symbolizes "locking in safety," bringing good fortune, and warding off evil spirits or bad energy.
奇戎鎮位 - Plaque to subdue Qi Rong
Here you'll see Jiahao and Fei using Mirrors - Mirrors is an occurring element in the show, but please notice here its not just ANY mirror, but a mirror with 8 sides - I can't tell if it is a bagua mirror or not. Mirrors are often used as a powerful ritual object to reflect cosmic order, dispel dark energy and expose the true forms of spirits and demons Bagua Mirror's primary purpose is to protect a home or business by deflecting, absorbing, or neutralizing negative energy
You'll see here when "Pete" is approaching the 3 kiddos, Pete isnt wearing the Jade necklace? It is Qi Rong using mind manipulation to trick them
You'll see real Pete here wearing the Jade Necklace while trying to find their way back to each other.
Omg Master Tong if he is all mighty and powerful - how can Qi Rong manipulate him further into his confidence of his craft :<
Niran and the yao that he faced/talked about during the show so far Silver Yao on the left: mentioned in EP 4 - Yao at the Factory Red Yao in the middle: in EP 2 - Yao at the Casino Blue Yao on the right: in EP 1 - Yao at the Old Man's Mansion
and poof to the butterfly: which reminds us of spirits and his grandpa
and here he faces Qi Rong in the eternal mirror set up
**EDIT for addition**
Translation of chant at the start of ritual
求老天 (Qíu Lǎo Tiān) May the heavens
賜我力量 (Cì Wǒ Lì Liàng) Give me with strength
逆我者亡 (Nì Wǒ Zhě Wáng) May those that are against me meet their de4th
盡傷鬼卒 (Jìn Shāng Gǔi Zú) Injure all ghost soldiers
During the summoning ritual of Qi Rong:
威名遠揚的戰神爺 (Renowned Great Warrior Lord!) 請接受這份以鮮血與靈魂奉上的祭品 (Please accept this sacrificial goods of fresh blood and soul) 請降臨於這穩固的王座之上 (Please descend upon this secure throne) 奇戎 (Qi Rong) 速速降臨 (Descend swiftly) x2 奇戎 (Qi Rong) 速速現身 (Appear swiftly) x2 來享用貢品吧 (come and enjoy the offerings) 急急如律令 (this you must obey)
Can't wait for next episode! I can't believe we are already at the mid point for Wu. \\(T~T) It's been a crazy episode! I loved EVERYTHING. How do I turn back time to rewatch it again as if its my first time, and how do I turn the clock forward 6 days for the next episode?! They need to stop ending the episode in the middle of ritual!! \\(T~T)

We Are One MV Teaser; Easter Eggs #WUTheSeries
OMG I'm so in love with this concept! 50s-60s Chinese wedding concept <3
GUYS - THEY MET AT A WEDDING!!!
囍(xǐ): usually used in Weddings cos it’s double joy & happiness 喜(xǐ): Joy so 囍 is double the joy and happiness
繼: continue
Mahjong scene is *CHEFS KISS*
AND THE WAY THEY'RE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER OMG
Go ahead and 拜禮堂, I APPROVE!
SHE WAS ENOUGH FOR "WU" TO BE ON QUEER PLATFORM GAGA AND I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT IT
the evil forces that you've encountered, felt and still touched by. transfer them to me. because we’re all going thru this together, right?
Niran went from Pete's employer, to business partner, to his landlord, to his... hehe
Not to dreg up old discourse but SOME “fans” rage at Wu the series being “bromance” and “not BL” and streamed on Gagaoolala just goes to how little SOME “fans” actually care about the larger queer community. Yes, sure, okay, Wu is not going to have SkyNani passionately kissing each other but it is still undeniably a queer series both in subtext AND in text. Gatekeeping what is considered queer is reductive I think.
Reminder that MLM attraction is not the only way to be queer.
I mean Wu is a mainstream flagship GMMTV series with an important and CANON transgender character in its cast. While many GMMTV series cast the amazingly talented Godji Tachakorn, rarely do they ever let her flex her acting chops AND be canonically transgender at the same time. Do we realize how incredible that is!? That her past transition is both acknowledged by the text and treated as just another facet of life!! Does Fei’s existence not count as queer enough for SOME “fans”? Does transness not count for the queerness quota Gagaoolala should allegedly hold?
I just think SOME “fans” need to take a look in at themselves and recognize their ignorance—whether malicious in intent or not—when it comes to deciding what gets to be a queer series.
I think the whole “queer-baiting” discourse (while completely valid in some cases) has fried a lot of people’s perceptions of intention. GMMTV has proven themselves, for all of their faults, to be an incredibly queer friendly company in (most) respects, and if they and Wu’s team decide that it was queer enough for Gagaoolala, who are we to say that it’s not.
And, frankly, as an aroace person, I think that the queer-platonic relationship between Pete and Niran is made all the more beautiful by its lack of what many would consider “romance”. That is not to say that romantic actions are not beautiful—they are and should be celebrated—but so should other forms of queer love.
I will forever be thankful and happy that we’re at a place in thai QL that a decidedly queer-platonic but still just as passionate partnership like Pete and Niran (SkyNani too) get to exist AND thrive in this market.
NiranPete and the Monkey Demon Stone
I swear it didnt occur to me that the ritual was done with the stone in EP 1 until EP 2/3.
Hahahhaa I'm trying so hard not to make any parallel reference to Harry Potter (I'm a huge Potterhead)
Geeking out cos of all the details from Wu so bad, I love this series alot!
Wu 巫; Easter Eggs from #WUTheSeriesEP1
Since my twitter is acting up (T~T)//, here's my thread for all the easter eggs i've spotted for EP 1~
The owner of the mansion is very superstitious and is into feng shui 風水 - which is a geomancy to direct the flow of energy. Here you see 福祿壽 (Fu, Lu, Shou) - the deities that represent Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity respectively. The alter is for 土地公 (Tu Di Gong)
Similarly, you'll see a ship in the house, in front of their family/clan photo, it is for 一帆风顺 (yi fan feng shun) - a smooth voyage in every endeavour they face.
This Gourd here is called a Hu Lu 葫蘆 - traditionally used as a water bottle, and also usually symbolises health/longevity. but it was said in Taoism, that empty gourds can hold spirits, as a vessel.
I cant understand Hakka sorry, but some of the words I caught Niran chanting was:
滅! 滅於此地!(Mie! Mie Yu Ci Di!) Destroy/Perish! Perish upon this land!
Reason why they had to do the ritual at that area is because that is where the energy is the strongest cos of the Mountain, Land, Lake (Water representation).
Words on the Gourd: 鎮 - 宅 鎮 (Zhen):Suppress / Subdue 宅 (Zhai):Habitat
When Niran mentioned Pete’s age, based on 2026, and Pete’s 24, Pete is born on the year of Horse. Fun fact: 2002 is the year of Water Horse, 2026 is the year of Fire Horse.
Each Zodiac cycle has 12 years: Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig
鼠,牛,虎,兔,龍,蛇,馬,羊,猴,雞,狗,豬
Transcribing what I heard, again I don’t understand Hakka, but caught the following words from Niran when he started the ritual:
奉天之命 (Feng Tian Zhi Ming) By the Mandate of Heaven
This part that I got curious about was this scene. Usually chrysanthemum flower is used to pay respects to the dead. (Can someone help me confirm if this is a chrysanthemum stalk?)
Severed/headless stalk would represent unnatural death, that the person’s life has already passed as it is.
Regarding Niran's Car Plate: I was trying to find out about Betong as the subtitles specified it from Niran's car plate.
So, Betong is a Southern Thai Town located in Yala Province, and very near the Malaysian Border.
Apparently, they are very famous for their Betong-Hakka Chinese food, which links to Niran since it was said some of the rituals were done in Hakka Chinese.
"The evil forces that you've encountered, felt, and unknowingly absorbed, transfer them to me."
"I don't know if it works since I'm no Wu. I just don't want you to carry it alone."
WU | ep1 & 4
Wu 巫; Easter Eggs from #WUTheSeriesEP2
Since my twitter is acting up (T~T)//, here's my thread for all the easter eggs i've spotted for EP 2~ So this confirms that Niran is from Betong, Yala, Thailand.
If Niran นิรันดร์ translates to Eternal, I would assume his Chinese name Yong Le is 巫永樂. 永 (Forever/Everlasting) 樂 (Joy/Happiness). 巫 is his Chinese surname.
The exercise that Grandpa is doing is called Taichi - 太極
Grandpa mentions Tian Ming here - 天命, which translates to Mandate of the Heavens, Fate, Destiny, God's Will
The 3 deity statues in the Casino, includes Guan Gong 關公/ Guan Yu 關羽 in the middle.
Guan Yu 關羽 is known as a legendary Chinese general famous for his loyalty, brotherhood, honesty, righteousness, bravery, and martial prowess. He is also worshipped as a god of wealth or a guardian deity.
Why brotherhood - he is loyal to 2 other legendary figures: Liu Bei and Zhang Fei - this I'll explain further later
Poker is a game of strategy, statistics and also a game of whose hands are better matched against the cards dealt by the dealer.
In this game, the mafia had 3 of a kind where he has a pair kings, hence he would have pretty good odds of winning, either with a pair of Kings, or 3 of a kind.
However, Pete's hand won because it's straight spades + flush numbers Ace♠️, 2♠️, 3♠️, 4♠️, 5♠️. Which means it's a way better hand than 3 of a kind.
六耳獼猴: Six Eared Macaque // Interesting part abt Six Eared Macaque, it's a monkey demon that was a major antagonist in the Chinese Classic Fantasy Novel: Journey to the West 西遊記
封: Seal
Pretty interesting that a casino chip is used as a vessel to seal the yao from the casino xD
Suming, I would assume its the sect that Niran and Fei met where they trained to be Wu
Diner scene with Niran & Pete What I find interesting abt this scene has 2 parts:
The Chinese Good Luck Knot as an ornament, usually symbolizes Luck, Prosperity, Longevity and Unity ;)
The part where they connected over a dish - hahahhaa reminds me of the Oath of the Peach Garden - 桃園三結義
This is a fictional scene of a Chinese Classic "Romance of the Three Kingdom" where Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei vowed loyalty and brotherhood to each other, and that even tho they are not born on the same day, they swore to die on the same day.
Regarding butterflies I wasn’t sure if I want to put it here yet, but here goes nothing.
In Chinese beliefs there’s two parts to what a butterfly symbolises:
Longevity, love, the Soul and Spirit & freedom. It’s once said that if a butterfly appears at your wedding/important event, it is likely a departed loved one visiting and giving you their blessings.
Relating to the Chinese literature similar to Romeo & Juliet - Liang Shanbo 梁山伯 and Zhu Yingtai 祝英台, otherwise known as LiangZhu/ the butterfly lovers because of how they reunited as butterflies in the afterlife. (IM NOT FORESHADOWING ANYTHING 🤣)
Ooooh, is that the “Your Name/Kimi no Na Wa” manga?
The red ribbon, the fate between the two characters
Ooh! So I’ve watched back, and realise it’s part of this chant in Hakka
Chant Translation (Rough) - Sky's IG Post
無慈悲者 非天地 Those without compassion are not of Heaven & Earth 違天命者 違天地 Those defy Heaven's Will, defy Heaven & Earth 非報應者 逆天地 Those defy retribution/judgement, are against Heaven & Earth 非公道者反天地 Those defy justice, defy Heaven & Earth 天公地道, 自然正道, Heaven & Earth are Just, Nature is Right 不公不道者遭天誅 Those who act unjustly will be punished by the heavens
You don’t need to repress your fear if you are scared. The evil forces that you’ve encountered, felt, and unknowingly absorbed, transfer them to me. [...] I’ll do for you what you did for me. It’s my turn now. The evil forces that you’ve encountered, felt, and still touched by, transfer them to me. Just transfer them all to me.
