Prompt 8- #picturebooks

After doing some research on facebook and instagram using the #picturebooks. I have found that instagram was more of a viable social media site. It contained more information. I found a page called 'penpalsandpicturebooks' on instagram which had a lot of book reviews and activities from two girls who are friends and who are pen pals. I also found another page called 'picture books bloggers' this page had lots of photos of picture books that people could use. These sites made the books look really good with the effects of the photos. I feel that in a classroom you could use these sites but only for one form of research. You would have to make it clear to students that this is not the best resource and it is important that they know that these sites are not always reliable. You would have to make it clear to students that like Wikipedia anyone can post on these sites. However many teachers use Pinterest and I find this more of a reliable resource to use.

Prompt 7

After researching about the hashtag #picturebooks I have found a page on 'the little book shop'. I have found that on this page, you can join community events about new books coming out for children. It keeps people up to date about the latest children books on the market. After viewing this page, I have now decided to follow it. It is the oldest children's book shop. (#picture books)

ABC online education prompt 6

I watched the video about Torres Strait Islander children. This could be watched before reading the Book 'The Rainbow Serpent' to the students. It gives an insight on what it is like living in the Torres Strait Islands and students in a classroom will be able to relate to the video because there is children interviewed within the video. After the video is watched students could be questioned about the video, there could be a class discussion.

Dust- Prompt 5

1. Cold night, I died, hollow and transparent, I stand in silence with no food which means no strength.

2. Re-write the sentence.  'The world has shut its ears and moved on'.

The world has stopped listening to us, they are getting on with their life's and forgotten us.

3. Front loading lesson, before reading the book  

Show students a series of photos for example sick children, the photos shown would be based on your class. Some children wouldn't be able to view some photos from past experiences. You want students to be questioned on what is happening in each image, what are students feeling. Give students a Y-chart to fill in about what it looks like, feels like and sounds like for each individual image. You could get students to create their own front cover of the book, based on what the front cover is telling them so far.  Based on the themes, they make meaning from the front cover. Ask students whilst having a class discussion about predictions they have about the book. You could also get students to write two or three questions they would like to find the answers to whilst reading the text.

Classroom Displays, Prompt 4.

These are effort metre displays that were displayed in my year 6 classroom whilst I was on placement. The students' made their own metres at the start of the year. These effort metres are used for students to self assess themselves deciding how much effort they are putting into their work. Each student has designed their own metre. The teacher referred to these metres as they were reflecting on their work. I found these interesting as they were so personalised, I had never seen these in  classroom before!

prompt 3

Personally, I read text messages and send them to my friends to communicate with them. Over this past week I have communicated with the friends I met on my Topdeck tour via Facebook messager. I have read many of posts on facebook. I read and send emails. I keep up to date with the deakin cloud which I check the posts regularly. Through lectures and University tutorials I read information. Reflecting on my answer to this prompt, I seem to use social media as the most common way to read.

Predictions- Prompt 2

Predicting- involves a Reader considering what they expect a text to contain or what they expect to happen in the text. Before reading this book you could create a T-chart. The left side of the page will ask the students for what they predict will happen in the book. The Right side of the page will ask students for justification of the prediction. Asking students why they think that? You could let the students look back at their T-charts and see if their predictions were correct. Always questioning their reasons behind their thinking......

I remember when my sister and I were younger and my Mum would read us the series of Enid Blyton. The Enchanted Wood was one of my favourites. This series takes a while to read. Maybe one day when I am teaching I could read these books to my class!
