I'm not really interested in these swap AUs, but when I see Poppy Playtime swap AUs on TikTok, they swap Mommy Long Lengs with Daddy Long Lengs. That's a nice idea but I think it would be better if Mommy Long Lengs were swapped with Doey because they have extremely similar tendencies. They both grow to be meters tall and are affectionate towards children, and they both transform into their angry selves. My favorite detail is that when Mommy Long Lengs chases us, she makes terrifyingly painful sounds, which reminds me of Doey's agonizing sounds when he transforms into his terrifying self.... what do you think?
Yeah, I think it makes a lot of sense!
I don't mind the Mommy <--> Daddy swaps though, I get why people do it especially if they're swapping Huggy with Kissy. But in those cases, I don't know who else would make sense to swap Doey with...
Actually, I didn't really imagine the swap AU; I just really like swapping Mommy with Doey because there weren't many DLL-related things in the game, and also especially the similarity of them both leaving particles around the game is crazy Xd
An unpopular opinion: but I do somewhat condone the accidental explosion of the safe haven because the poor children were suffering so much there and making so many agonizing sounds and groans; they would most likely have starved to death. I think they found peace by dying from the explosives but I still feel very bad for Doey and the children :((
One of the biggest mistakes PPT fans make is thinking that Jack, Kevin and Matthew control Doey with a single emotion. No Jack isn't the "crying" one, Matthew isn't the "calm" one and Kevin isn't the super "angry" monster. All three of them have emotional struggles in the game I wish artists could create more detailed doey art or animations :/
Doey took over the toys under the Prototype's control lol
I've been analyzing Doey for a very long time, and I hope no one has mentioned this before 😅;
While many people say that Mathew mostly controls Doey, I think that's completely wrong. It makes it seem like Kevin is the problematic one when he controls Doey. In the game, we see that three boys almost completely control Doey: Jack when Doey is alone, Kevin defending against external dangers, and Mathew taking care of the safe haven – we realize they actually have responsibilities in protecting the orphans...
Kevin: In my opinion, he's quite advanced for his age! I'd say Doey is the most important person, but his biggest problem is that he doesn't portray this normally and has trust issues. I can argue that he's smarter than Mathew; from the beginning of the game, he trusted his instincts and thought that we and Poppy weren't entirely safe people, and he was ultimately right! Poppy probably changed a lot after waking up from the cage and Kevin noticed it
Mathew: Despite his age he might be a teenager, but his self-confidence and courage are still very weak. He needed Poppy very much because she was one of the rare toys who knew the factory's operations. When Poppy disappeared, Mathew was practically defenseless without her, but he did his best to protect the orphaned toys and still doesn't think he's a good enough leader
Jack: He might be the child I feel most sorry for :c Even though he doesn't play a crucial role, I noticed that he behaves exactly like the original Doey personality. Jack, by accurately reflecting Doey's personality, could be a source of joy for the toys in the safe haven because Doey was a very beloved toy mascot, as far as I remember (I apologize if this information is incorrect). We see that the toys in safe haven are completely suffering and hopeless; Jack is probably trying to cheer them up by having fun with them
I'm sorry for my poor English. Actually my analysis of Doey is very long, but I didn't know where to begin 🥹 I love doey aka my boys!
Ooh, this is a really good analysis! I'm really glad someone else noticed how Doey's personalities are more equal than some people think. Matthew is not the "main personality" or "host", it just happens that we spend a lot of time within the Safe Haven where he tends to show himself the most because he is needed there as a leader and cares for his family. But while we're outside of it, we can see more of Jack and Kevin. And it aligns perfectly with why Doey was created in the first place. In 1322 Report: Kevin, the scientist refers to Doey's intended purpose as "an experiment that can fulfill multiple assigned roles".
I agree a lot with what you said about Kevin. He's definitely smart and it's nice to see someone else notice his early suspicions of the player and connect that to what happens in the end. (Really, Ollie was the one who couldn't be trusted, but sadly Doey doesn't get to learn the truth about that...) Even though he lashes out at the player, that doesn't make Kevin bad at all. He was hurt and saw the player as the enemy. But before that, there were moments of Kevin being in control while helping us.
For Matthew, he is a teenager, yes. His report says he entered the Playcare orphanage at the age of 15. And I think his insecurities are important to his character, so I'm glad you recognize this. I think he is a good leader, and he tries his best to be good for them despite everything, but once things go wrong he ends up being very hard on himself...
With you believing that Jack's personality is similar to the mascot, I wonder if the fact that Jack himself was a fan of the Doey character played a part in this. Like, if maybe it's easy for him to "play the character" due to his familiarity and fondness for Doey. Idk, but there's good potential here for personal interpretations about it, so it's a nice observation.
Chapter 4 is my favorite Poppy Playtime game; I pay so much attention to the characters' conversations and thoughts! I forget most of the subject reports or notes, so I often log back into the game to read them, haha 😭
Kevin's success as a "subject" candidate is a canonical fact! I think the fandom focused on the scientist's dangerous and problematic thoughts about Kevin during the discussion, while no one paid attention to Kevin's observational skills before until the end of the game and in Chapter 5, when everyone realized Kevin was right. We already learn from Sawyer that Kevin is a successful child, sooooo ironically Sawyer knows Kevin better than most of the fandom lol... ☠️
I still don't agree with the scientist calling Kevin a "problematic child" Yes he's a scientist, technically intelligent and he researched Kevin, but I think this observation was more about him being someone unsuitable for the role of a subject because Kevin can't be the only child having temper tantrums in a HUGE orphanage. I'm sure there are many orphan children like Kevin who have temper tantrums. I don't think most scientists can even tolerate children (I can give the example from chapter 3 vhs type! the doctor or scientist? when Joseph catches him, the doctor yells at him as if he's scolding him?) I think Sawyer's plan to include Kevin in the big experiment project stemmed from the concern that he would be seen as more of a "problem" than usual in the eyes of the other scientists. If Kevin had been placed in a small toy, they certainly wouldn't have minded; after all... small toys are controllable right? But a toy made of approximately 400 kilograms of playdough controlled by angry kid..... yeah Sawyer's mind which is of an unknown caliber... really works differently
