New Eco Not Ego podcast! https://econotego.podbean.com/e/e8-death-by-mud/ For the New Year, in addition to the dual Spence and Josie Eco Not Ego podcast, we will be uploading Spence's Mountain Obsession podcast and Josie's Birds and The Bees podcast. Enjoy! In this episode of Feed Your Mountain Obsession, the podcast hosting duties are taken over by Julie Hiner. Julie is a friend of Mountain Obsession founder, Spence, and like many Global Mountain Tribe members, she was curious about his adventures. Discussions include nearly dying at the end of the earth, South America, spirit animals, depression in cities and the philosophy of Mountain Obsession. A big thank you to Julie! [email protected]

Wanderlust
Everywhere I've traveled I have left a piece of my heart with the people, the places & the experiences. I come home and find myself feeling emptier & emptier each time, as each time someone or something takes up such a big piece a piece of me that Calgary could never justifiably have. Though it saddens me to come home leaving a piece of me behind, it saddens me even more to know that had I not met these people or seen these places I would have a full but empty heart. I am so humbled to know that each moment I live for, each new day & new experience brings me closer to the memories and the people that will last a life time. I will never stop seeing the world, I will never stop growing & learning & making new friends, Cuz when I'm gone there will still be a part of me that lives among the people & the places, the places that have touched me & the people I have touched - Karly Ganos, Eco Not Ego International Ambassador xo

Stop Saying Yes and Start YELLING No
With life continually ramped up to a hyper pace, you will always have a lot of things to do. Yes, your little list you just started with 10 action items is going to 35 by the end of the day and you will be lucky to check off 7 of the original. Between emails, phone calls, texts, your brain, friends, businesses, family, new prospects, clients and messenging, you will be inundated with requests for a whole host of potential action items throughout the day.
You will be continually tested by the universe to see if you can remain focused on your Why, which is the reason you are getting out of bed in the morning and pushing hard. These tests will often come in the form of distractions from friends, families and sometimes, people you don't even know that well. So many of us out there are people pleasers, a habit that I believe can get you into more trouble it is worth - we say yes to everything even when it means our little list is going to balloon.
Can you help me with this project? Yes! Can you pick-up my dog and watch him? Yes! Can you meet at this time for this reason? Yes. Yes. Yes. When you continually say yes to stuff that you hate - and to stuff that you may not hate, but distracts you from your why and the vision you are trying to create for you life - you lose something that is more valuable that money: your time and your dream.
Saying yes to shit you hate all the time is eroding your dream. This week, I challenge you to track ten times when you simply have to say no to stuff that isn't driving your life forward and causing you to swerve into another lane, or detour unnecessarily.
We all have the same amount of time during the day, so how is it that some people are creating their dream lives with other wishing they could follow suit? In a nutshell: those living and creating their dream lives are saying N-O a lot more frequently. It can be tough in the start, but trust me when I say it gets easier. Write down your "NOs" and feel proud of them. Be gentle, but firm with your no's and don't feel you have to justify to people. You may upset a few people in the process, but if you aren't, then you likely don't have a vision. I am not saying to blow everyone off and make enemies, but remember you time is oh so valuable and your vision WILL NOT create itself when you are distracted.
Discipline = Focus = Freedom

My thought of the morning. Something I am going to focus on for the week.

Slaves to Social Media
Does anyone else out there run a business, or personal life that revolves around social media? Do any of you ever just have those days where you wish you were a farmer back in 2500 BC before the earth was ravaged and we were slaves to small screen machines?
I have them all the time and often simply want to chuck my computer out the window and go live in a forest. The sad reality is we are all so hyper techno-driven (guilty as charged) that we fail to realize the true beauty of life: the wind rushing against the house, your partner's messy, but cute bed head, or the changing of the leaves. We rush around at full speed, trying to "do" everything - in a time when we need to appreciate the beauty of nature more than ever.
The average person is on social media for 4 hours a day! F-O-U-R hours! That is crazy! If that isn't modern day slavery, I don't know what is. Something has gone wrong and it trickling down into the rest of our society - we are becoming less aware of what is happening to our planet, our governments, our ecosystems and to us.
Setting mandatory unplugging time is key. Using phones at bedtime is not only unnecessary, but rude to whomever you are around and yourself. I challenge you to put away your phone for ONE (not 4) hours before bed. Start tracking your social media usage and see if it is really driving you forward, or is it creating unnecessary drama, stress and chaos in your life.
Are you respecting your time, your mind and your body when you continually access social media and live the lives of others?
I am certainly guilty of it at times, but I have been working to track how much I am on and will be cutting down. Think on this: are you a slave to the hyper techno machine?
Go play in a forest for a change.
