Does anyone else out there run a business, or personal life that revolves around social media? Do any of you ever just have those days where you wish you were a farmer back in 2500 BC before the earth was ravaged and we were slaves to small screen machines?
I have them all the time and often simply want to chuck my computer out the window and go live in a forest. The sad reality is we are all so hyper techno-driven (guilty as charged) that we fail to realize the true beauty of life: the wind rushing against the house, your partner's messy, but cute bed head, or the changing of the leaves. We rush around at full speed, trying to "do" everything - in a time when we need to appreciate the beauty of nature more than ever.
The average person is on social media for 4 hours a day! F-O-U-R hours! That is crazy! If that isn't modern day slavery, I don't know what is. Something has gone wrong and it trickling down into the rest of our society - we are becoming less aware of what is happening to our planet, our governments, our ecosystems and to us.
Setting mandatory unplugging time is key. Using phones at bedtime is not only unnecessary, but rude to whomever you are around and yourself. I challenge you to put away your phone for ONE (not 4) hours before bed. Start tracking your social media usage and see if it is really driving you forward, or is it creating unnecessary drama, stress and chaos in your life.
Are you respecting your time, your mind and your body when you continually access social media and live the lives of others?
I am certainly guilty of it at times, but I have been working to track how much I am on and will be cutting down. Think on this: are you a slave to the hyper techno machine?
Go play in a forest for a change.
