But as Jongdae accepts his fate, something interrupts the sun; a shadow cools his surroundings for a brief moment and Jongdae chokes a sigh of relief. His eyes open, bleary but searching as his ears register a voice, muffled but he recognizes the sound of concern; his sight is blotted out between tears, but he sees the outline of wings as the light peeks through soft feathers-
“Help me,” he whispers, head lolling forward from the weight and his weakness towards his knees.
She couldn't seem to tear her eyes away from the slow creeping of color from his face, it was horrific and still she watched. Yein was so intent on the grey seeping that she didn't even register him realizing she was there.
Not until his croaking plea for help anyways. She let out a startled squeak and tumbled back, blinking for a second as she attempted to reign in her pounding heart and to grasp what had just happened. As soon as she realized he had spoken she scrambled back towards him, once more crouching in front of the greying stranger.
"I- I'm here..." She spoke softly, casting gaze about for something, anything to help. “I’m gonna...” Gonna what? “I’m gonna try and help you.” She had honed in on the paper bag. Leaning towards it she grasped the crumpled paper and began hurriedly rummaging through it’s contents. There was a twinge of guilt at the idea of looking through someone else’s stuff but she assumed it was the poor man’s and maybe, just maybe there was water or something inside.
She roughly pushed aside candles and some packaged foods, her frenzy ripping the bag. No luck! She wasn’t about to attempt to force feed him when it seemed just as likely he’d choke than anything else. Dammit, Dammit! A part of her briefly entertained the idea of trying to fly him to a hospital... or something... That of course was not going to happen, she could only just support her own weight in the air there was no way in hell the stranger’s dead weight would allow for flight.
Tossing the bag aside she leaned forwards slightly, observing him. Yein wondered just how capable he was of movement, or even speech. “Can you- Do you think... you can stand?” Arms lifted from her side, outstretched hands reaching towards him and she stopped, afraid to touch him, afraid of even attempting to help him to his feet... if she even could.

Jongdae cries out, disregarding the embarrassment that coupled the inability to hold pain; his pride goes out the window as the he sinks towards the asphalt, back to the wall, the roughed material catching the fabric of his shirt. He curls up as small as he could, knees to his chest as his ashened arm lays limp and the color creeps over his chest and up his neck. It burns; everything is too acute for his senses and he feels his blood boil against his veins.
The paper bag is just within reach, but what seemed so important just minutes ago looked incredibly minute in this scale. In what was left of his rational mind, he regrets ever stepping outside today, knowing that first flicker of electricity was an ominous sign.
Yein had known something was off almost immediately, the sun was wrong… She had slept in? The girl had a routine and she didn’t really sleep to late even on weekends but the way the room was lit up it was significantly later in the day than she usually got up… which she had to infer since it turned out the power was out and she was unable to check what time it really was. (Which in turned explained why she had slept in.)
Immediately it felt wrong, the lack of noise. There was no gentle hum of a heater, no faint buzzing of androids marching past her window. Hurriedly throwing on clothing Yein escaped her too quite dorm, determined to surround herself with proof that the city hadn’t died overnight. Which of course it hadn’t, but the idea of it made her anxious, wings shifting nervously against her back. Which reminded her; one of her favorite shirts was beginning to fray, a result of her shoddy attempt to make it wearable. It turned out simply cutting holes into the back of clothing didn’t actually make it usable with wings.
So it was the student decided she was going to go out and get some sewing supplies and patch up her mangled shirt. Though she didn’t exactly get very far. A cry made her turn her head and peer at a form curled against a nearby wall. She almost walked by but couldn’t make herself simply ignore the obviously distressed figure.
“Hey uh…” Her voice was weak, soft as she walked towards him. “Are you alright?” A stupid question. Crouching before him she saw the grey for the first time. Hands flying to cover her mouth she had to struggle to keep herself from screaming, her eyes growing wide and tears fighting to spill over. Wings unfurl from her back, folding forwards slightly to conceal him from any other prying eyes.
“Are you hurt?” The panic was clear in her voice; what was she going to do? Please be okay, please be okay, please be okay!
