Thom Yorke and Modeslecktor Skip divided, sweet song and a sweet video.
The illustration and animation is immense there is so much action helping tell a really griping story. The story shows two opposing fighter pilots in an intense dog fight to the death. I love the movement in the video as well as the way the pilots transform throughout the video. Showing their agression, pain and frustration until they finally break down and let loose of the monsters inside them.
I think its fascinating how this sort of thing went on, I also learnt that this is something George Lucas looked closely at whilst filming the Star Wars films fight scene. I think this helped massively in achieving the realism to the battles in the film helping with its popularity.
logo work for Thom
Provisional logo artwork! This is a little drawing done by my good friend Ed Birks and is the basic idea of my logo. He’s an ace drawer and I’m excited to see where he takes it next! It’s a privilege to have such a talented chap working with me.
level 6 Summery
For Procon this year we had the option of Print, Web or Motion. I'd never done screen printing before an always wanted to. Last year I did some brief research into finding other places in Manchester where it be possible to learn, but they costs loads! This made me want to take full advantage of the facilities at Uni. It was a reasonably hard decision as my web skills aren't up to scratch and mastering this will only make me more employable in the future. I decide on print as I thought it'd be easier to learn web after uni then it would be to try and pick print up. Its a completely different learning process and has a lot more trial and error involved. Really enjoy spending time in the print room, realised the other day that i'm going to really miss it (starting to get all sentimental because the end is in sight.)
I've focussed my time in the print studio trying to learn how to screen print. Its taken a while to crack and I still haven't got there quiet yet. Its also really encouraging having other students around that are all at different stages of learning the process, it helps with seeing what possibilities also great competition.
For are Pub Quiz I was assigned the job of screen printing the goody bags. Charlotte had already made the screen up so this sped everything up. I was really impressed how the first few started looking I also think it really help me to start to perfecting the process, after we'd got going theres was much stoping us.

LEVEL6 EVALUATION:
I've enjoyed Level 6 its been a good year, we started with the Magma brief. In reflection I think I should have done the editorial brief for 20-22NQ zine as this looked to be a good brief to get into. The Magma brief allowed me to be really creative but I feel my portfolio lacks editorial work. The Magma brief did allowed me to work big and with different media.
I got the opportunity to go down to London for the typo event, this was really good as it was like a weekend full of Graphics. It was great seeing all of profesional designers and learning about designers that I hadn't heard of before.
Marriots brief was a good chance to work with Rory, I think we got some really creative work from this. It also gave me the excuse to go to the Urbis which I'd been meaning to do for some time.
After Christmas we had Edition which was really cool, although the building was freezing it was a really chance to be really expressive and experiment. The final show came together really well. During the end of this I had to concentrate on getting my portfolio up to scratch for my interview at RIngspun. It all came together really well and I ended up getting the gig. I'm there at the moment trying to juggle the rest of my university work and my work for them, I am really enjoying it and it giving a lot of exposure to working in the more retail fashion side of things. This is oddly enough something that I've always had an intrest in and been involved with, with having done textiles for a couple of years at school and college. I've also had work with the design office of Berghaus up in Sunderland.
Took some shots this afternoon of the We Made a Pub Quiz promotional pack for my online portfolio.
Found this poster on Change The Thought, really good illustration style. The style of visually illustrating the movie is a similar concept to what I was looking at for my dissertation visual, it's also a similar style to the Star Wars posters.
The colour paler used is also really reminiscent to the film, the subtly to the monolith also a really nice touch.
I was trying to work out how to get the typeface to be made from the Bee's and also tried to trace a couple of actual typefaces. I was having to do each word separately in different files because of Illustrator telling that there was enough memory to move the objects. It worked alright for Bee's and Do, but I was also on the Universities Macs so knew that my laptop wasn't going to like it. It just wasn't working because of the amount of path so I had to re-think how I could construct it. Threw placement I've been using swatches a lot so worked out I could do it using them. It doesn't compact as well and does have a different look but it still works, geting it legible was also a task. I add 'Bee's' (-Do More Shit) as it tightens it back to the brieef and strengthens the concept.
Another poster I spoted around uni, liking the illustration style and colours.
The print studio at uni. Some really sweet work going up on the wall, really good to see what everyone else is doing.
poster around uni, some really nice colours and photo effect.
