The blonde looked at them and smiled a little. “Yeah I guess so.You’re probably doing it for an actual job though. I probably just look like a creeper with a camera.” Callie said laughing slightly.
Eddie shrugged. “What is an ‘actual job’ anyway?” they asked. Then they shook their head at their attempted philosophical bullshit. “Nah, I’m just getting establishing shots for my next series. No one’s paying me to do it... yet.” They then noticed the wristband on the blonde’s wrist and raised an eyebrow. “Oh! You from Safe Haven? I haven’t seen you around.”
“ It’s called a cactus burger. ” They enthused, noticing the random individual’s attention aimed in their general direction — were they even looking at the skinny brunette with the green burger on the paper plate in their lap? Syd didn’t know ; weirder to not address it if they were though, right? “ Trippy, I know. ” Shifting slighty in their seat, dark browns glanced back down to the dish. “ It was like no one was ordering it, so I just said fuck it. ”
Eddie had been looking at the pale brunette, but not because of the burger. They were trying to figure out how the world could still make such interesting, beautiful, and unique faces. It still blew their mind.
When the object of their attention spoke, Eddie chuckled, happy to have a way out of explaining why they were staring at the other. “Is it good, at least?” they asked. “Because I love me a good meat patty.”

Alex shrugged his shoulders as he pressed his lips together. “Fine. English is easy for someone who has English as their first language,” he said. “Happy now?” He rolled his eyes before taking another bite of the funnel cake. “Sh, let me pretend I spent money, it sounds better than saying ‘that’s why I got it for free.’ Don’t ruin it.” He had not thought that far ahead, he never did. “Who knows? I haven’t decided.”
“You know me, I’m always happy,” they smirked before taking another bite. Then they gave a chuckle. “I always ruin shit, don’t I? Sorry, not sorry.” They looked around at the carnival, wondering what would be the best thing for them to do next with their friend. “You big on rides?”
“Damn it. I can never get the exposure right on this picture.” Callie muttered to herself. Photography had been a hobby that she had picked up when she was a teen, but it had been years since she had gotten back into it. Before coming to the town, her mother had given her a new camera and the blonde figured she should get some use out of it. The carnival was the perfect place due to all the photo opportunities. Holding the camera up, the girl sighed when she saw someone in her field of vision.
“Can you please move.”
Eddie had been filming a lot of the carnival. They had an idea for the next horror series they wanted to do, and these establishing shots were going to be perfect.
Eddie heard a voice, but it took a few seconds for them to register that the voice was directed at them. “Oh! Shit, my bad,” they apologized, moving out of the way. They then noticed the camera and smirked. “Oh, guess we’re doing similar things, huh?”

“English isn’t hard,” he shot back, laughing. That was probably true for him considering the fact he studied English and is pretty damn good at it. He shrugged her shoulders, a smug expression on his face. “What can I say? I am a smart guy.” Laughing, he watched as they went and retrieved a fork and his eyebrows raised as the other took a bite of the funnel cake. “I know, that’s what I bought it.”
“Didn’t you grow up in Michigan?” they clarified. “Try asking a non-native speaker, Mr. College Man.” They took another bite before covering their mouth and saying “You know, buying implies you, you know, spent money, which the wristband helps us not do.” They chuckled before asking “So, what’s the plan after eating this delicious concoction?”
Tristan stood in front of the basketball game, shooting ball after ball. One would bounce off the hoop, followed by three more that would miss entirely. Eventually, Tristan was just launching them towards the hoop. The goal was to get one ball in the hoop and he was failing miserably. At the last second, on the last ball, it swirled around the hoop and finally fell into the net. Tristan broke out into dancing, celebrating the fact that he’d finally gotten one in! The carni just nodded awkwardly at him and had to admit that he didn’t win a prize.
Tristan pursed his lips and abruptly stopped dancing and adjusted his shirt. “I’ll be back and I’ll take that stuffed pig. You just wait.” It was a weird half threat? Tristan walked away from the booth, rubbing his nose awkwardly before spying someone nearby. “Hey. Can you play basketball? I’ll pay you $2 to win that pig for me.”
Ever since Eddie arrived at Safe Haven, they had been doing the one thing that made them feel comfortable; filming. They had, of course, brought their camcorder to the carnival. They had gotten a bunch of shots of the ferris wheel and the roller coaster and the clowns, and they had an inspiring idea for a new horror movie by doing so.
They were grabbing some establishing shots when they noticed a guy just chucking basketballs at the hoop without an inch of precision. They chuckled and zoomed in, watching him intently and full on laughing when he erupted in a happy dance. When he turned around to leave, Eddie stopped filming, thinking they were going to get a lemonade. Then, when confronted, Eddie smirked and shrugged. “If you’re that desperate for a stuffed pig, I’ll win if for you for free,” they taunted, heading over. Then, they turned around and squinted at the guy. “Safe Haven? I recognize that face.”

Alex raised an eyebrow at the response to the question before laughing. “Good English there, buddy,” he joked. “Good job I know what you mean, isn’t it?” He rolled his eyes before shaking his head. “Get your own fork if you think you’re too good for my germs,” he said before laughing.
“English is hard as fuck, and you know it,” they argued, giving him a crinkled nose in fake anger. Then they nodded. “You are an incredibly smart person to be able to understand the complexities of my speech.” They then groaned, rolled their eyes, then trudged over to grab a fork. They then took a bite out of the funnel cake and swallowed before saying “Yeah, this was a good idea.”
If you could win a bet on guessing where Alex would be at any event, you’d win putting your bet on ‘near the food’. He was a huge foodie, he couldn’t cook but the boy could eat. So of course he was looking for the best looking funnel cake his could find. Funnel cakes were hands down were his favorite.
“If you can’t eat all the sugary goodness at a carnival, when can you?” he asked with a laugh as he looked to the person who was now stood beside him.
“None time,” Eddie responded, then squinted and looked up in confusion at their own words. “That came out wrong, but whatever.” They gave a small laugh before scoffing at her friend. “What? Only one fork? If you think I’m going to share a funnel cake and your germs, you are sorely mistaken, my tall friend.”
