Edward Lodewijk "Eddie" Van Halen: a god amongst men. Best known as lead guitarist and cofounder of hard rock band Van Halen. He is ranked 70th on the Rolling Stone list of Top 100 Guitarists (obviously). The All Music Guide has described him as "second to only Jimi Hendrix...undoubtedly one of the most influential, original, and talented rock guitarists of the 20th century." The crowd surrounding the band demonstrates that after months of touring and promotion, the quartet had become rising stars on the hard rock scene.

#VanHalen guitarist Eddie Van Halen out for a night on the town, probably at Hollywood’s infamous Starwood Club, circa 1981. 

As David Konow writes about this debauched nightspot in his essential history of heavy metal, Bang Your Head: 

A local doctor supplied the Starwood regulars, and his offices became known as “Camp Quaalude." Every Saturday morning, the line in front of his office would stretch for blocks. The cops would drive by and think the kids were lining up for concert tickets. One night the club was raided and a box of more than 4,000 ‘ludes were discovered. On the side of the box was written: “For distribution at the box office." (Slash claims he sold the best quaaludes at the Starwood, adding, “I think the statute of limitations has run out by now.")
