Post-canon sect gatherings are about to be wild. Listen. Jin guangyao is dead, lan xichen is in seclusion, jin ling is jin ling, and we haven’t met any other competent sect leader ever. Post-canon sect gatherings are p much all on jiang cheng and huaisang to manage. And sure huaisang could help but. He’s a little shit. If it ain’t a qinghe nie problem, he’s not here for it!!! I think one of the things that makes Wei Wuxian appealing to me, from a character design standpoint, is that he is a living example of the idea that a character’s good qualities and fatal flaws are the same traits.

Wei Wuxian is extremely smart! And also convinced that he’s the smartest person in the room, and he always knows best what to do, and that nobody else can have a better idea than him.

Wei Wuxian is very accomplished and capable! And also unbearably prideful, and incapable of humbling himself to accept help.

Wei Wuxian is wonderfully funny! And a lot of fun to be around, until you know  that something’s wrong and he’ll keep deflecting with jokes forever and never let you in. 

Wei Wuxian is incredibly loyal! Which is great, until he finds himself with a debt that can only be repaid by turning his back on the entire world  and rejecting all his friends and family in order to honor it.

Wei Wuxian is deeply loving! And that will lead him to mutilate himself and lie about it to suffer in silence forever for the sake of someone he loves rather than allow them to be in pain.

He’s a classic Greek tragic protagonist whose intrinsic flaws lead him inevitably into disaster, except that all his flaws are his best qualities, as well.

its always Wild to me when people make wei wuxian a chill 'do whatever you want here's some alcohol' adult when he is, canonically, the more "uptight" parent

like they're both definitely not overbearing or Strict parents and wei wuxian is still very much a Cool Fun Dad but lan wangjis parenting philosophy is "I grew up repressed and restricted and sheltered so I will make sure I do not give my child the same fate" while wei wuxians parenting philosophy is "I did whatever I wanted when I was younger and I DIED (died a yuan, Died)" which to me is Infinitely more entertaining than wei wuxian convincing his son to get drunk with him and lan wangji scolding them about it

we get little sneak peaks of this before he's even an adult.. HOW can you see wei wuxian be all "I'm not telling you how we're going to get your core back until you've finished your meal >:|" to jiang cheng and then think this man would be the one letting sizhui do whatever he wants

and this is not only funny because wei wuxians parenting style is so different from lan wangjis and the way he Himself acted as a teenager, we also must think about the fact that him and jiang cheng have almost the Exact same Parent Instincts and this terrifies them deeply. wei wuxian is a much more.... tender and traditionally affectionate and less,, shouty parent of course but oh the sheer comedic power of the fact that wei wuxians, "do you see that pit? no matter how old you become I will still plant you into that pit! understand?" and jiang chengs, "you think I can't grab you now? even when you're 30 years old, I will still grab you!" are, essentially, the same sentiment and I can Promise you that at least one (1) time both of them have shouted the exact same thing at their respective children at the exact same time and then turned to look at each other in utter horror
