Thank you, Eddheads. Welcome to the official home of the Eddsworld-based fandom challenge of Eddtober! Here you'll find the lists of prompts, reblogs from Eddtober from all years and more!
Note: You don't have to specifically draw for this 'tober! Any work of art is accepted and encouraged, including fanfic, cosplay, 3D modeling, irl crafts, etc.! (Gore from 2020 and onward will be reblogged to a different blog, gore from 2019 and 2018 are still present; be cautious if you scroll back that far) Click here for the prompt list, rules, and more
Crossing the finish line a bit late today, sorry about that! But here's the full sheet for Eddtober 2023!
Explanations/help for every prompt and rules/boundaries can be found on the carrd linked in the bio (not linking it here since links quash tumblr posts)
Also, Mod CL has stepped down this year, and since she was the bulk of the reblogging force, reblogs may be a bit slower this year, but please bear with us; there's only two mods now, and one of them is in uni, so please make sure you @ us in your Eddtober posts so we don't miss anything!
(also obligatory reminder we're not affiliated with the actual Eddsworld staff or their Eddtober prompt list on Twitter)
I think you guys can tell where this is going just by the title alone.
Hey you, I'm Founder Chris - creator of this fandom October-themed challenge which had been running from 2017 till 2023. (2024 didn't happen but we'll get back to that.) If you'll let me spin a yarn...
Four days before October of 2017, I had the first inkling of an idea of Eddsworld-inspired creative prompts. So over the next two nights in my bed, pretending to sleep and away from my mom’s eye while also doing my last year of high school, I wrote all the first prompts down on a few sheets of notepad paper (which I still have to this day!), later transcribing them to a tumblr post with boundaries and rules. I called the creative challenge ‘Eddtober.’
There was so much fanart through those years. There was so much writing, even an RPG game demo one year! I still think about my favourite pieces from different years and find so much joy in them. Thinking about it, I'm still shocked that it had a reach on tumblr, twitter, even pockets of youtube, Russian fan forums (yeah!) and Amino! (Remember that? I wasn't even there and I'm stunned it made it through!)
But as time went on, it was getting harder to run the event as a one-woman show. Though I'd gotten the help of friends to help out as mods, running the challenge wasn't as stable as I would've liked. The stability grew back into the 2020's (despite fandom flame wars elsewhere, but that's par for the course), and I'm deeply thankful for every single one of the mods for pitching in - hence the change into Founder Chris in 2020 and leaving Admin Chris behind. Yet, I never fully got to take a step back from working on the challenge. Heck, I'd even fully written but never posted about wanting to step down.
And since 2019: Eddtober from Eddsworld Official (mainly on twitter) was starting to be the more prominent one, with very little acknowledgement towards here (though it did exist). But with official EW ramping up their Eddtober more and more, this one... well, you can see where it was going. 2023 fan-run Eddtober had us neck and neck with official EW's Eddtober even here on tumblr.
In my personal life, things were ramping up: in 2023, I had university and studies keeping my hands sufficiently full, and I'm just deeply grateful that the mod team had pulled off their magic that year at all. I'd also been drifting away from Eddsworld in general, save for a surprise burst that returned with Eddtober.
But with 2024 being a year of personal recovery from burnout and things changing in my life behind the scenes... the burst of energy never came. I decided that Eddtober wouldn't be coming back that year. I could let it go.
In fact, I could let it all go entirely.
So for certain this time, it's goodbye from me.
I'll keep the blog and page up as it is now, as a sort of preservation and time capsule. What the old mod team plans to do with it, I won't be involved, as much as my heart could want to leap back into action at the slightest poke.
Thank you all for everything. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for making art, no matter what form it took. Thank you for the effort you'd all stewarded into it. Thank you for brightening up the fandom into a better place when things had hit low points. Thank you all for the inspiration, hope, humour and heart you'd brought into the world because of Eddtober.
Eddtober wasn’t supposed to be just art people alone, for other creative prompt lists that were popular in October, 17-year-old me was determined to include everyone.
The vision of Eddtober was this: To unite the fandom regardless of whatever may happen, go back to roots of the show and our relationship with it, and create things for it we otherwise have never done.
And we did!
You came, you saw, you punned, you created. Was it perfect? Probably not. But you kept Eddsworld spinning, especially in the years of lull between Legacy and Beyond.
To those who want to continue this challenge from all those years ago - either as new mods of this blog or a new blog to host it, you have my blessing. From experience, my advice would be to stay to the vision all you can, and you won't lose course.
So for the last time, so long, Eddtober. Thank you a million times over.
-Founder Chris.
(P.S. I'm not quite done with EW yet. I have other projects I intend to wholly finish before I can truly call it quits, but if you know where to look, you know.)
...that's a good question, though I can't say for sure. Haven't had a response from many of the old mods for a while.
But there's also something I've wanted to let people know for a good few years at this point, just on my end as Founder Chris. I may post it in here soon.
This was also from a sketch from last year’s Eddtober, and was sad I didn’t get to finish it (until now)! This was inspired by a limited edition Coca Cola flavor called Space
So behind on eddtobers, I didn't feel like coloring these u.u
Day 20 - AU, For this I picked my slasher au: Edd is Brahms from The Boy, Tom is Michael Myers, Matt is Hannibal Lecter and Tord is Freddy Krueger. This is the only one that didn't go with my theme of the characters also participating in Eddtober (or at least having a poster/picture)
Day 21 - Red Army, went with giving some wanted posters (and redrawing Tords) for Paul, Pat, Yuu, Yanov, and Anya (the soldier girl from 2005 Christmas Special)
Day 22- Bing & Larry, Self explanatory lol
Day 23- Clones, I wanted to give some other clones some love so here we have the Frankenclone from Beyond, along with Naked Edd, Blue Matt, Realistic Matt, Kitten Shopping Tom, Tom that didn't like the movie, Gun Nut Tord, and Where's Wally/Waldo Matt
