Eden rolled off the couch to the floor, and shuffled over to Jack, laying her arms and head across his chest. “There’s a lot you don’t know Jack, that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell you. Lets just keep it at that,” she said, frowning. She sighed a little. A healthy relationship was built on trust, and all they’d done is lie to each other so far. She didn’t want to keep things from him, but she didn’t exactly have a choice.

She perked up though, at his next question. “Well, I mean why wouldn’t we be able to. We haven’t clashed too horribly yet, and I think you’ll find I’m a quite amicable roomie,” she said with a cheeky wink.

He brushed off her first answer without problem. “So, decided then? I do only have one condition. Mitch has to be allowed to sit on the couch. He gets upset if he gets kicked off.” Jack smirked, the dog’s ears pricked up and he let off a small noise as well. “See, told you.” Starting to twiddle his thumbs, “Glad that’s settled…. Did you have anything in mind to do today? Or would you rather laze about the apartment?”

"Of course Mitch is allowed on the couch," she leaned over and ruffled his fur. The dogs tongue lolled out, and he looked as though he was grinning up at her.

She looked back over at Jack, smiling softly and staring at him. She leaned over and placed a soft kiss on his lips, and then laid her head back down on his chest. "I'll be happy as long as I'm with you."

Jack blushed and became flustered suddenly. “All in the interest of being Eco friendly. One power bill takes less paper than two.” He stepped back and stared at his feet like child. “Theoretically, of course”

Eden stared for a moment, still processing what he said. She realized, she couldn’t leave the poor man hanging, so she began to weigh the pro’s and con’s.

Pro: You get to live in the same house. You get a dog. Sleeping in same bed??

She thought those were pretty great reasons to move in- but then began to think of the consequences. Rei would be _furious. _Ama, of course, would understand. Besides, she was rarely home anyhow.

Plus, what if Mitch peed on her plants?

She shook her head and walked over to him, grabbing his hands. “You know with me, comes responsibility, right?” She said, raising her eyebrows. “I mean, I’m going to be bringing over possibly fifty plants, are you sure you’re ready for that commitment?

Jack shrugged. “Im not sure i have enough window sills to accomdate your plants. Im sure i can make it work.” Before he knew it he wouldnt even have to order hus own vegetables at kino’s, at this rate. “Should i be worried about backlash from the angry baker?”

Eden gave him a deadpan look. “Jack, we have the same apartment layout. Do you think any of my plants have gotten any sun in the last 2 years?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. She pursed her lips and walked over to the couch, sitting on the arm and falling backwards, her gangly legs hanging over the side. “I dunno. She’ll be furious of course, but that’ll be more so at me, not you,” she replied. Eden sighed and threw and arm over her eyes, suddenly feeling anxious.

She turned and waved her hand, exiting the room. “I’ll make do with what I find, don’t worry,” she called back to him. She entered the kitchen and pulled open the fridge door, peering inside. It was surprisingly full, considering he tended to eat out.

She pulled out a package of sausage which was nearing it’s expiration and some eggs, which prompted her to remember that a butchers shop had opened recently and she should see if it was as good as every one had said it was.

Jack rustled around in his closet looking for sufficient clothing to walk into the kitchen with Eden. He ended up settling on a ridiculously cheesy t-shirt. Jack sniffed the air as he walked down the hall, whatever Eden was making smelled delicious, better than anything he could’ve done.

“So, you raid my kitchen the next morning? Is that how these things work?” he asked, Jack figured he could live with this. Eden was facing the stove, and awy from Jack, so he stepped up and hugged her from behind. “Y’know, I’ve been thinkin’ lately. Which, in and of itself, is dangerous I know.” he spoke so as to not shout in her ear. “It gets kinda lonely around here with only Mitch over there for company, and we both know he’s pretty lazy.”

The poor dog’s ear pricked up at the mention of his name, eager to go on a walk or play fetch, there had to be something for dogs to do. “Anyway, how would you feel, theoretically, about consolidating space and say, sharing an apartment with me?”

Eden turned around as he entered the kitchen. She'd sautéed some vegetables and mixed them with the eggs, putting them in a baking dish and popping it in the oven to make an egg bake. She sipped her coffee and grinned, admiring his shirt. "Of course that's how it works, I'm supposed to take care of you, aren't I?"

As he continued, Eden's heart began to pump faster. Was he doing what she thought he was doing?

When he came outright and said it, Eden choked on her coffee, setting the mug down and picking up a napkin to wipe her face. "Wh-what?" she said incredulously.

She ruffled the back of his hair and rolled out of bed, grabbing a t-shirt from his closet. “I’m raiding your kitchen- Am I going to find more paraphernalia in the spice cupboard?” she asked, turning around and placing her hands on her nonexistent hips, an eyebrow raised.

Jack hadn’t quite woken up all the way yet, and seeing Eden in one of his shirts, albeit over sized on her, was making him smile any way. “What… Define paraphernalia for me again? Because if a bunch of absolutely cheesy souvenir mugs is paraphernalia, then yes. That is exactly what you’re going to find.” Jack propped his head up using his arm as a makeshift headrest. “And, I really don’t have a spice cupboard? They’re just in a rack next to the stove, if you’re looking”

Jack awoke early the next morning as the sun lit the rain clouds and the birds started to tweet. Eden was still snoozing silently next to him, so he rolled over and wrapped his arms around the thin figure she cut in his bed. “G’morning sunshine…. or clouds as it may be.” he spoke before kissing her on the back of her neck.

She smiled sleepily and rolled over,facing him. She cracked one eye open and jokingly groaned. “Five more minutes,” she said quietly, placing a kiss on his nose. “Good morning, handsome” she replied, pressing her forehead to is.

Jack shrugged his shoulders, “Not immediate danger.” he admitted. “There are people out there that would like to see me put in the ground. I stole a nice chunk of change back then. But I doubt they would find me here, hell I barely found the island to begin with.” There were only a few people that knew where he was, and he planned to keep it that way. The less people who knew, the fewer could rat him out.

She stood quickly, crossing the floor and grabbing his hands. “You know we’d never let anything happen to you, right? Mamono is your home now, I couldn’t bear it if something happened, I-” She shook her head, trying to blink away tears. “You’re safe here, okay? Don’t forget that, I’ll do everything I can to make sure you’re with me as long as possible,” she said, a sad smile on her face. She could see, on his face the lines of ageing and fatigue from having been running so long. God, she could only imagine what he dreamt of at night.

If you can be open with me like this, then I can be an open book as well.” he finished. Jack had very recently started implementing a policy of transparency, for those that asked anyway.

She looked at her feet, thinking for a moment. She didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to ask him anything, but like he said they could cross that bridge when they got there.

A question arose, however. “You said... You said you kept those boxes as an insurance policy, to protect you?” she looked up at him, concerned. “Are you in trouble? I guess that’s a stupid question, but are you in danger? Can I help you?” She began to sound a little desperate, her tone edging towards hysteria.

“Yes, well… I’m already much older than you, and I don’t see me dying in the next few hundred years, so…” She trailed off, looking away from him. She knew it was a bad idea to be involved with a human, much less fall for a human. Again. Would she ever learn?

Jack nodded and spoke after a moment. “Well, might as well make use of the time that we have. Live like tomorrow might never come? All that jazz, right?” he said with a pained smile. Sure she might outlive him by….forever. “Besides, I’m sure there’s some magic shit that can extend my lifetime right?” he asked, silently hoping.
