“What I’d like to think what happened and what probably actually happened are two different things,” Hadrian said, offering a smile as condolence. “The Micky Mouse Club, huh? I doubt that you were alone in wishing that.”

“That is a good way to think about it, I guess.” Eden chimed in reply, returning a kind smile to the stranger. “Yeah, well, we all wanted to be Christina and Justin, just to grow up and blow up, then...”A slight shrug lifted their shoulders. “-shave all of our hair off and live paparazzi Groundhogs Day for the rest of forever.”

“You know, when I was a kid I would pick dandelions from my yard and make wishes on them,” Hadrian said, reminiscing for a moment before the breeze began to blow, quickly causing all of the seeds from the dandelion to blow through the air. “–gah, I think one blew into my mouth.”

"Do you think your wishes ever came true?” Eden asked, marking their place on the off white pages of a book with a bony index finger before looking up to the unfamiliar voice. “Mine never did... Though, up until the age of 11 or so, the only thing I wished for was to be a member of the Micky Mouse Club...”

The transition from Spring to Summer had always been one of the busiest times for the farm, but despite that, Edmund’s parents did little in the way of hiring extra help to make up for it this year. Whether it was some kind of test for his endurance or ability, Edmund really couldn’t say, all he knew was that that left only him to help pick up the slack. Evidently, even school couldn’t be important enough to keep him from tending to the work his father didn’t have time to do on that particular day. He wanted to protest, but what was the point? Grades didn’t really matter if he wasn’t going anywhere after he graduated. The only things that spoke to an ambition outside this tired, tedious work were hidden away in his room.

“Produce stands are around front.” Edmund said when he heard someone enter from the large stable doors he left open to allow some sunlight and fresh air to filter in, assuming they were lost. He spoke kindly despite the fact that he’d been working all day, exhausted and a little worse for wear. Patting one of their happily eating horses on the neck, he continued, “I’d be happy to show you.” He finally turned, facing the person in question.

Springtime in Coolsville always managed to bring the reaper from the backdrop. Maybe it was the sun casting spotlights on the earth or the bustle of the leaves and the hum of the town in the distance that was felt reminiscent of Eden’s favorite spot in the place they used to call home. Either way, something in the air brought them from their shell and into the realms of other people. Who Eden was came in waves and today the tide was high.

Unblemished white oxford shoes tapped on the old wood floor as they rounded the corner, careful not to enter too quickly as to not spook the animals with the heavy aura that surrounded death. The kind voice that rung sounded like music and caused the reaper’s stoic face to curve into a smile before speaking. "The stands are lovely this year.” Their voice was apologetic as they reached into the reusable bag that hung on their elbow. “I’m sorry. Open doors always just leave me with so many questions...”
