A Farewell

A letter left for Varick Vanburen

Father,

Please don't be disappointed. I could not bear to look you in the eye when I said this...so I am writing to say goodbye. I have decided to venture into the Shadowlands, along with a band of others like myself, seekers... adventurers...maybe even a hero or two.

I know you'll be afraid, and I cannot ask that you do not fear for me. Know that I weighed this decision, and though it is frightening, I believe it to be the right one.

I have longed for adventure since I was a child, sitting at your feet as you read stories to us of brave heroes, and the incredible journeys they've taken. While I have lived a good life, a happy life, I have failed to live an exciting life.

I think it is long past time for that to change.

Please forgive me for the worry I know this will cause, and know that I carry all your love for me on this journey, no, adventure.

I have been assured by some...merchants…I have been introduced to that it will likely be possible to send word to you from time to time of my safety, and I will strive to do so as the situation allows.

Until I can return, know that I love you all with my whole heart.
