Delilah just wanted to reach out and touch him to know that he was really there. She wanted to feel his arms around her. She almost reached out to touch him, but before she let herself give in to the urge, she was reminded that he was dead and that she couldnât touch him. It was the cruelest joke of all, to have him standing before her and to not be able to touch him.Â
She didnât notice the tears falling down her cheeks as she shook her head. âIâm glad that you did,â she admitted. Even though it was absolutely breaking her heart to have him standing there and to not be able to touch her, she had never thought that she would be able to talk to him again, to get some sort of closure.Â
At his question, she let out a sad laugh, shaking her head. She had no idea how to answer that question. How was she? She was a mess, her life had fallen down around her, she didnât have him there by her side anymore. Her husband was dead and she didnât have Edgar by her side. She had no idea what to say. There was so much she wanted to say and she was terrified that he was justâŠgoing to vanish again.
âI got a dog,â she said with a small smile. âMerlin, I miss you so much, Edgar. Every day.â
"A dog,â Edgar smiled. Heâd always wanted a dog, though Amelia had always teased him for it. Sheâd said that he had always been like a huge dog to the point where he didnât need to own one. Plus, with his busy schedule heâd never had time to take care of one. It brought a sad smile to his face.
He missed her, his sister. He missed Eli too, whatever laid on the other side had been wiped from his memories and he couldnât recall if theyâd been reunited. But it was worth it, if that meant he could say goodbye to the living. He had the chance to talk to Ted, Amelia, and Delilah standing right here in front of him. âI miss you too,â he said honestly. She didnât need to know that he couldnât remember anything. She didnât need to know the welling sadness inside of him. âIâm sorry I couldnât keep my promise.â
If he was being honest, when heâd made the promise he knew more than likely that he might not be able to fulfill it. That in these trying times of war and especially with his job that he could be easily killed, and he was. His only regret was that he hadnât taken a death eater down with him, maybe that he handât taken Amycus with him. Then Delilah could have been free. âI want you to be happy though, even if it takes you a while you deserve to be happy.â Would it do her good to tell her to forget about him? To move on? âDonât let me hold you back from that.â
