Just wanna ask if your au is gonna be light-hearted and just focus on the trio dynamic or is it gonna be tragic and follow canon deaths?g

Hi, thank you!! To answer your question, the AU is definitely (already) branching away from canon. I want to try for an “everyone lives” ending (which is kind of a challenge when so many characters are determined to be Doomed By The Narrative,) but there’s still going to be drama and angst even if everyone survives. (In my current plan, there are no deaths, but even if that were to change it’s unlikely they would be the same as in canon.)

That’s not to say that there won’t be lightheartedness, though. The main inspirations for this AU for me were the character dynamics between Avid, Pearl, and Abolish and wanting to explore them more. The whole “fix it/everyone lives” angle of the AU is driven by 1. the challenge of tackling a hard problem (“how do I keep all of these fools alive??”) and 2. my own monster hunter bias/propaganda (“if these three had teamed up from the start, then none of this bad stuff would’ve happened!!”)

So I’m mostly writing Hunters Trio platonically because that’s what I’m good at and what I feel most comfortable with. I don’t mind if anyone wants to ship these versions of the characters though, and Pearl and Cleo are still roommates and have good rapport with each other like they do in canon.

I will say that the Hunters Trio AU is a special kind of torture for Cleo; her favorite person in Oakhurst (Pearl) and least favorite person in Oakhurst (Avid) are apparently hanging out now??? Why??? Could they not though???

As for the werewolf blood...Pearl hasn’t noticed anything so far. Her new buddies would probably overreact so she hasn’t told them about it. It’s probably fine, nothing to worry about :)

Well we know who Avid suspects as being a vampire but what about Abolish and Pearl, any guesses if at all?

I was actually going to hint at this in the next comic update, but I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to answer it now.

I’ve taken some artistic liberties with how much time passed in episode one, and the main idea is that the Hunter Trio interrupted the first canon Turning in a way that gave all parties involved plausible deniability. So Scott and Owen suspect something’s off without having actual confirmation that the other’s a vampire, they’re both wary of the Hunters* (again, without concrete evidence that they knew what was about to happen,) and Pyro has this vague feeling that he narrowly avoided something terrible but doesn’t know exactly what. Pyro isn’t sure what to make of the Hunters either, and he’s still skeptical about the existence of the supernatural, but he is sure now that there’s something very wrong in Oakhurst.

As for the Hunters, they’re fairly certain that at least one of the three is a vampire: after all, luring a small group out to an isolated location in the middle of the night is a major red flag. Scott is absolutely on everyone’s radar (and he’s barely even trying to hide it tbh,) but they’re unsure of what to make of the other two. In Avid’s most paranoid horror fantasies, Scott violently Turned both Owen and Pyro and now they’re forced to obey his will (note that’s not necessarily what Avid thinks happened, but it could have happened and he thinks about Awful Things That Could Have Happened a lot.)

Pearl is actually the most invested in trying to figure out if Owen and Pyro are vampires or not—this is her first time dealing with vampires, so trying to spot them is new type of challenge. She keeps an eye out for little hints in their appearances and behaviors, while still letting the world know she’s neither afraid of monsters or inherently hostile toward them (until she needs to be.)

Meanwhile, Abolish is perfectly comfortable with slotting Owen and Pyro into the category of “Schrödinger’s humans;” they could be vampires, or they could not be. As long as they don’t become Problems (for him, specifically,) he could not care less.

Avid is doing great! He's been told that "the pain means it's working" and that Abolish is "going easy on him." Clearly things couldn't be better! ✨😊
