1) Professional Development Workshop: Tips for Writing Effective Faculty Job Applications – Tuesday, March 24
The UK Society of Postdoctoral Scholars (SOPS) invites you to the following event:

2) Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities Information Sessions – Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26
The Human Development Institute offers a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities open to all University of Kentucky graduate students. This is a great opportunity for students from various departments to expand their knowledge of issues, services, and legislation concerning individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Not only does the graduate certificate program teach students about issues surrounding developmental disabilities, but its interdisciplinary approach encourages students to apply what they learn to their respective areas of interest. Additionally, funding and research opportunities are available to students enrolled in the program on a competitive basis.
Informational sessions for graduate students who may be interested in completing the Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities will be held at the University of Kentucky on March 25th, 2015, 4:00-5:00pm and March 26th, 2015, 10:00-11:00am in the Mineral Industries Building, Room 004 (basement). 4) Commercialization Workshop Series “Commercialization Pathways” – Thursday, April 2
The Commercialization Workshop Series will provide information on the fundamentals of the University of Kentucky’s intellectual property and commercialization process. These workshops are sponsored by the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of the Vice President for Research.
UK faculty, clinicians, postdocs, and graduate students with an interest in commercialization and entrepreneurship.

5) Graduate Program Coordinator Position Available with the Martin Luther King Center
The Martin Luther King Center has an amazing Graduate Program Coordinator position! This particular student would work with the King Center Peer Mentoring Program which is designed to increase underrepresented student involvement and success by promoting community building, academic support, cultural engagement and fostering meaningful relationships on campus. The graduate student would work with three upper-class mentors and fifteen first year mentees. This program will allow interested students to be matched with an upper-class mentor for the first two semesters at the University of Kentucky. This position will also assist in advising the Black Student Union, a student organization that educates the UK community on diversity and culture through open general body meetings and a variety of yearly programs. Additionally, this student will serve as a facilitator for the King Center’s diversity workshops which are created 1) to educate the campus and Lexington community on issues of diversity and social justice, 2) to support individuals as they integrate cultural awareness and knowledge into their own identity, and 3) to equip individuals with the skills to advocate for social change. 6) Graduate Assistant Position Available with the Student Activities Board
The University of Kentucky’s Office of Student Involvement has a graduate assistant position available working with the Student Activities Board. The Student Activities Board graduate assistant works directly with full-time professional staff to advise the board in all aspects of leadership and event management. The GA also takes part in all training opportunities for both the board and the Office of Student Involvement as a department. The GA is required to be a currently enrolled graduate assistant at the University of Kentucky. The assistantship will last one academic year, beginning in June 2015 and ending in May 2016.

The 2015 grant competition for the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Grant Program (DDRA) has begun!
CFDA Number 84.022A / ED-GRANTS-022715-001
DDRA provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students who conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to 12 months. This grant competition is held, annually.
Graduate students in doctoral programs in the fields of foreign languages and area studies must apply through the institutions in which they are enrolled.
A student is eligible to receive a fellowship if s/he:
Is a citizen or national of the United States or is a permanent resident of the United States;
Is a graduate student in good standing at an institution of higher education in the United States who, when the fellowship begins, is admitted to candidacy in a doctoral program in modern foreign languages and area studies at that institution;
Is planning a teaching career in the United States upon graduation; and
Possesses adequate skills in the language(s) necessary to carry out the dissertation project.

8) Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Research Awards – Applications due May 15
The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) of the National Academies’ Transportation Research Board offers $10,000 Graduate Research Awards that include mentoring by national experts assigned by the ACRP, facilitation of access to ACRP resources, a research presentation at the Transportation Research Board annual meeting in Washington, DC, and publication in the Transportation Research Record. Students must be supervised by a faculty member and be attending an accredited higher education institution in the U.S. or Canada. U.S. and Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible as are students who have an active student visa throughout the award period.
Application is made on-line with components including a research proposal, faculty advisor commitment, resume, transcripts, writing sample and other elements. Applications are due on May 15, 2015. Ten awards are anticipated for the 2015-2016 academic year.
