Goals for 2017
But there’s a reason...
It’s weird seeing black women be shamed daily for reacting to black men in IR relationships. It doesn’t come from a place of hate, but hurt. The way black women defend and protect other groups when they don’t deserve any of it from us shows how we can never hate anyone, but we do hurt and we hurt often because people seem to not care “why” we hurt.
People act as if there isn’t history behind why black women respond to them the way that they/we do. It is not the same way racist white men respond, so stop saying that (I’m talking to you black men), but everything to do with constantly being told you don’t compare to white women, not as worthy. We grow up hearing this, seeing this, and feeling this, so it stings. Being told you’re not as beautiful, valuable, or important as white women or other races of women, etc.
Black women look to black men to be the only source outside of themselves who would treat them/us differently than white America treats us. Like we are beautiful, like we do matter, like we are just as valuable, and it stings for a lot of black women that the men who look like them/us feels about us the exact same way society does.
When black women see the men they place on a pedestal, protect, defend and cherish date IR, it is not because they hate seeing it or black men who do it, they feel like well I guess we not good enough for them either. Some black women feel like white women already have the pedestal, the glory and other forms of privilege black women do not. Black women feel like we/they have to work so hard to gain some sort of respect and to be valued and for some black women, seeing black men in IR opens those old wounds again.
It’s never from a place of hate, black women don’t hate anyone, everyone just seems to constantly remind us how devalued we are.
WORD!!
Cajun Mac and Cheese 1 lb rigatoni pasta 1 tbsp olive oil 1 lb andouille sausage, diced 1 large onion, chopped 4 stalks celery, chopped 2 green bell peppers, chopped ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs ½ cup parmesan cheese, shredded 3 tbsp butter 3 tbsp flour 1 tsp cayenne pepper 15 oz coconut milk 6 oz evaporated milk 2 tbsp smoked paprika 1 tbsp ground dry mustard 7 oz extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded 5 oz smoked mozzarella, shredded 2 tbsp parsley, chopped Salt and pepper to taste Non-stick cooking spray Preheat oven to 350-deg. Coat a 13” x 9” baking dish with the non-stick spray. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then cook the pasta according to package directions. Once cooked, drain, then return to the pot and set aside. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil until it begins to shimmer, then add the andouille. Break up the sausage with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes. Add the onion, celery, and peppers and cook until softened, about 5 minutes, then set the pan aside. In a small bowl, toss together the breadcrumbs and parmesan. Set aside. In a separate skillet, melt the butter over medium high, then whisk in the flour and cayenne, and continue to stir until the roux is smooth and browned, about 4 minutes. Gradually add the coconut milk, whisking until fully incorporated after each addition before adding more. Then repeat the process with the evaporated milk. Season with the mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Working in batches, sprinkle in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, whisking constantly until melted before adding more. Once the cheeses have melted, stir in the sausage and vegetable mixture and cook for an additional two minutes. Then pour into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with the Panko-parmesan mixture, then bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until the crust is browned and the cheeses are bubbly. Let sit for five minutes before serving, garnished with the parsley. Approximate Nutritional Values: http://www.food.com/recipe/cajun-mac-and-cheese-407950
