If you have an hour to spare and want to get the basics of chapter 1 of Volume 1 of Capital, consider listening to these 4 tracks.Â
2 episodes in one day. I am on a roll.Â
After 9 months, episode 3 is finally up. 4 is close behind.Â
your course outline link is outdated btw (going off of the posts saying you made a revised version. should I go off of that version- /post/118162659440/course-outline or the one at- /course)?
the post is the proper outline. the one at /course is the old course outline for the first run-through. you could follow either, but the former has more resources.
thanks for bringing this to my attention, i’ll fix the links
Hello prof, what is the course timeline? Is each session meant to take a day or week? Or is it work at your own pace? Apologies if this has been asked and answered.
work at your own pace, but occasionally i run through with a group. most of the time that ends badly because life gets in the way and we can't all keep up with each other.Â
a small, dedicated group is probably the best approach, but if individual study is all you can manage, thats fine too, just remember you're not alone. you've got me and a ton of resources at your disposal to help with anything you need.
when i ran through initially with a slightly different course outline, it was weekly, and maybe if you want to try that for yourself it'd be doable, but some of the sections of the text are particularly difficult and some sessions have a heavier workload than others, so remaining flexible is wise. in the end though its entirely up to you.Â
Here’s episode 2 of the Edwad Academy podcast. I recorded this at like 8am and I still haven't slept yet, but I’m finally getting around to posting it at 8:48am, which makes everything better, because its like the Revolutions of 1848. Enjoy.
Episode 1 of the Edwad Academy podcast. Let me know if there are any problems.Â
I found this workbook recently that aims to help groups get through Volume I together. The website has all of the relevant powerpoint slides as well as a free pdf of the workbook (in multiple languages!), so definitely check this out if you plan on doing your own group reading of the text, or maybe even if you’re going about it on your own. It certainly couldn’t hurt either way.Â
Edwad Academy 2.0
As I just said on my main blog, I’m doing another run through of the course. I’ve had quite a few people show interest in doing this over their summer break and I’ve been looking for another chance to do this again with the revised course outline.
Basically, what’s different this time, among various changes to the course outline, is that we’ll be using Skype to hold discussions on the text (I’ve had other suggestions, so by the time we actually get around to discussing, we may be using some other program or website). For those that are interested in taking the course and being involved in the discussions, my Skype username is edwadism.Â
I will say that this course is being done entirely for free. I have laboriously collected all of these resources together and organized them for everyone to use in a way that I hope is easy and accessible. Among these efforts, I have taken pictures of every individual page of a book, uploaded them all in reading order, and set up a tagging system so that you can find the chapters easily. I have also typed up pages and pages of questions from another book for use as a study guide, despite the fact that I’ve listed it on the course outline as an optional resource. In short, I’ve done a lot of work and spent a lot of time tinkering with the course just on the hope that people would use it and enjoy it, but one of the reasons I’ve been able to do that is because I bought books and other things that were relevant to the course. A lot of this has come out of my own pocket, and so if you're interested in helping me improve the course further, or if you just have a few spare dollars that you’d be willing to give me in return for the service that I gladly provide, I do have a paypal ([email protected]) and donations are absolutely welcome.Â
Again, the course is still completely free and I’m not going to hunt you down if you can’t donate. I shouldn't have to explain how absurd it would be to try and make a profit off of Marx, and so that’s not at all what I’m trying to do here.
Anyway, that’s about it. The course is now live, and I hope to see many of you taking part in the discussions. If not, of course you can still do the readings on your own time and I will always be here to answer any questions that you may have. If you decide to run through the course, whether with the group or not, I would suggest tracking the #edwadacademy tag. I always post in that tag, and that way you’ll never miss something that may be important without having to check the blog daily.Â
Thanks for reading, and I hope that you’re all as excited as I am.Â

I made a mistake!
On the course outline, I somehow managed to have two weeks of Week 9, which obviously isn't right. This isn't a big deal really, except that my two 7-week periods are now a 7-week period and an 8-week period. I’ve failed to notice this until now, and nobody has pointed it out to me, but surely it would've caused problems next week when we got to the second week 9! I’ll go fix the original post and the course outline as it’s listed on the blog.Â
