"I don’t know what you’re talking about," he shrugged with a smirk. "Yeah I doubt he’ll even notice they’re gone. I mean really he just kept them locked away in a back room hidden in a wall. So I doubt he’ll miss them until he really needs them. But he’ll have a hell of a hard time finding me since I hired in under a fake name with a disguise. Oh well."

His amusement at his own cleverness was cut short when he felt her arm around his shoulders and his hair being ruffled. He hadn’t expected her to be quite that friendly towards him despite her having done it numerous times before he had left on his mission. His cheeks heated and he flushed a bit, feeling suddenly shy to be receiving so much attention.

"Yeah it’s been a long time since I had any good home-cooking. Not that that’s the only reason for me coming to visit you but yeah…"he trailed off, looking away trying to act less awkward.

"That smirk says otherwise, Edward." Kit teased, ruffling his hair again except lighter this time. "Did you happen to find them or did he point them out to you?" She could only assume he had pointed them out to Ed that they were hidden away in a wall. Made her wonder just how special these books were for the man to hide them away like that. "Smart, I would do the same and use a fake name as well depending the situation." It was also something her father taught her to do.

She chuckled when Ed’s face suddenly started to turn a light shade of pink, did she embarrass him by ruffling his hair? How curious. “I know it isn’t but it is a bonus you get some home cooked food. Not some train meals, though I have to admit they have gotten better with those. I am picky when it comes to food, oops?” She laughed and tugged him along to her apartment. “Wonder if Bear will remember you.”

He laughed and flashed her a cheeky grin. "I let him tell me about his 'extensive research library' and then when I only found beginners books and medical texts I figured he had a secret stash. So one night when he was away on a house call I snooped through his study and found them. After that whenever he left me there to make some private house call or personal night's off where he went out I would sneak in there and read them and apply them to my notes. Since I didn't get to spend as much time reading and analyzing them as I would have liked, towards the end of my apprenticeship I started smuggling them out and mailing them back to my apartment here. On the day I left I had his whole library. If he wasn't such a crackpot doctor I would have felt awful about it but he was basically exploiting those poor people." He paused and looked thoughtful for a moment before looking at her wistfully with a vulnerable truth shining in his eyes. "I'll tell you what he was doing when we reach your apartment, I don't think it's safe to say it out here..."

"Anyways it's a huge plus and I'm really grateful to you for it," he said with genuine sincerity. He couldn't help smiling and tried to stifle a laugh as she tugged him along. It felt good to have friendly company. "I don't know if he will but it'll be fun getting reacquainted with him. I like dogs they're fun."

"Well you come off as a bit high strung, a bit like myself and so I can picture you getting into trouble now and again." Kit smirked before rolling her eyes. "Mmmhmm, I get the feeling it will be the opposite."

"As long as you took them discreetly and were on the way back here before he noticed. I would like to know about these books as you made me curious on what you dug up." She laughed and grabbed him around his shoulders with her arm and ruffled his hair a bit roughly. "So it means you would love a nice home cooked meal, huh? I am a pretty good cook if I say so myself and is that so? Sure he does his work unlike the General I work for."

"Yeah they had an alchemic doctor there and I got some great notes from being his assistant. I don’t know yet if it will give me the answers that I was hoping for since I didn’t totally get to decipher everything I learned. I’m hoping that books I lifted from his study can fill me in."

"Sounds good, though I hope you don’t mind me following you home to see him. I’d hate to be a nuisance after your hectic day at work."

"Really? Hope being the assistant for a doctor wasn’t too bad and you behaved yourself, mostly." Kit snickered as she teased him lightly. "Wait, you stole books from him?" She raised an eyebrow before smirking "Huh… boy after my own heart, hmm?"

"Naw I don’t mind at all! If you are hungry you can help me eat some left overs, I always make too much and I can never finish it all myself. Plus I get to complain to someone else about that idiot."

"It wasn't too bad. And what do you mean by that? I'm always behaved aren't I?" He smiled mischievously, "Just ask Mustang. I'm an absolute angelic delight."

"But yeah I stole some books from him, they were so old and dusty I figured he wouldn't miss them. They're a real good find though, I'll tell you more about them later. And I don't mind leftovers, after eating train food and more cup noodles than I ever wanted to anything sounds good. Plus I'm sure anything you made will taste awesome no matter what and complaining about Mustang is my favorite pastime."

He laughed at her complaints and beamed a sunny smile her way before sighing contentedly, “I’ve been alright, got some good research done. Nirechta was a cool place to visit but its good to be back in Central.” He smirked when she spoke about Bear. “Oh yeah Bear I haven’t seen him in forever. I’d love to see how big he is although something tells me I should be worried about being sat on,” he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

Kit rolled her eyes at him laughing at her but smiled all the same. “Oh you went off to do some research didja? Hope you found what you went searching for.” She nodded hoping his visit wasn’t for nothing. “Think he was a puppy since you last saw him, he is a lot bigger now. He shouldn’t sit on you… well not unless you are sitting on the floor he will, still thinks he is a lap dog.” She laughed. “But overall you should be safe.”

"It is fucking ridiculous how much work he avoids and hands over to me. I am pretty sure I shouldn’t be looking at half of it." Least it gave her a good read now and then.
