sledding positivity post
As someone who cannot run for very long without becoming entirely out of breath, sledding is a wonderful thing. The speed of the air whipping by your face, the snowflakes in your hair, the ice licking your nose as you reach higher and higher speeds. It is positively, absolutely, most definitely amazing. I’ve always liked sledding, but this winter have found a newfound joy that I hadn’t unlocked in the years past.
A few days after a large snow, once the sun has begun to shine and tufts of grass have just started to peek out from the ground again, I rush outside in shorts and a tee shirt and fly down the hill, as fast as I can possibly go. The rush from the cold and the speed is amazing, like a feeling I haven’t had otherwise in a very long time. It helps me cope, and gives me something to look forward to in tomorrow. That’s it, that’s all. Just some good things about today
ten things I love about humans
1. the way people light up when they hear good news. you can see in their face, body language, or even just in the way they talk to you that they’re happy and it’s wonderful
2. pets! that’s it. the fact that one day a human saw a dog or a cat or whatever and decided “that’s it, you’re staying with me.” it makes me so happy to think of the love people can have for their animal friends
3. laughter. the way people’s faces light up, how everyone’s laugh is a little bit different, how you can spend minutes with a friend laughing over absolutely nothing at all. laughing till you can’t breathe anymore, and the pure happiness that comes from it
4. the fact that certain populations across the world who had never met came up with similar ways of creating sustenance and how complex foods have become
5. the way people sit. some tap their feet, some cross their legs. some drum their fingers and look around the room while others sit straight in their chair. they’re all doing the same thing, but everyone is different in one or another little way
6. voices. how once you get to know someone you can recognize them just by hearing the soundwaves they make. all the small lilts and lulls in the way people talk, all of the noises that are comforting just because of their familiarity
7. sledding, airplanes, and rollercoasters. the fact that humans decided that near death experiences were fun as long as it wasn’t too near death
8. thoughts and dreams. humans experience things so differently from one another and it’s always interesting to learn about how one person thinks, about what goes on inside their brain
9. the way they hold on to little trinkets. to one person a rock or a pencil or bracelet is just an object, but to another it holds meaning and is like the world to them because of that
10. the way people move. almost redundant because of number five, but not really. they all have their own ways of doing everything. even motions as small as typing and blinking are unique to the person who does them
