One of English's most annoying vocabulary issues is that it uses the word sled for almost everything. Some Englishes borrowed in toboggan, that's cool, but there are so many gaps.
The first one is a kälke in swedish, probably how I'd translate sled without further context. Made out of wood, old fashioned, kinda scary.
The second is a pulka (loan word from Sami). A modern pulka is normally plastic, and you sit in in it rather than on top of it. Can, in addition to going down hills, replace a pram for transport in lots of snow if blankets are added.
The third is a stjärtlapp or åklapp (butt patch or ride patch) a minimal piece of plastic you sit your butt on to ride down a hill.
The third is a snowracer or rattkälke (steerable sled), has some additional names, but offers the most control while also being scary by being almost as tall as an old fashioned kälke.
All of these are significantly different experiences and to not specify further is so insane to me.
