Jade’s Asks Etiquette

Hello, I’m K! To help Jade be a bit nicer to everyone, I thought I could lay out some guidelines for those interested in chatting with him.

Jade will only respond to interactions that interest him. He does not like to be bored, so please keep it fun! If it makes me him laugh, I’m sure he’ll enjoy giving a proper response.

Please be polite with your interactions! If Jade receives something rude, I will delete it before he takes the keyboard from me and writes a scathing response.

Similarly, please be patient! Jade is quite busy with his classes and the Mostro Lounge. He may not be able to get to your requests that quickly.

This is not a blog for NSFW requests. I will delete them, and Jade will mock the request mercilessly.

If at any point I feel uncomfortable, or believe something to be unsavory, I’ll reserve the right to delete them before Jade can retaliate.

Since I like to stay organized, I’ve gotten a list of the main tags that I’ve been using so far:

"Hey, Jade, I found these at Sam's shop and I thought of you!" They say as they hand Jade a bag of those mushroom-shaped chocolates

"Delightful!" Jade happily took the bag off your hands and immediately dug in, the number of chocolates in the bag very quickly disappear into his large maw. And yet somehow while he chowed down on the snack, he was able to maintain that air of dignity that he always carried himself with.

"A meager tidbit, yet it should tide me over for half an hour." He nods, satisfied. "How kind of you to think of me. Now, speaking of mushroom-shaped chocolates, were you aware that you can make chocolates with mushrooms as an ingredient, as well?"

Jade pulls open a notebook that he had on his desk, flipping to a page with a red tab and tapping the words written there. "Yes, dehydrate your choice of mushrooms and grind them up, then add them to your melted chocolate. It adds a nice savory taste to the sweetness."

He chuckles, placing the notebook back on his desk. "I wonder if Sam-san would have that available, or if I would have to experiment myself...?"

I'd join your club since it seems nice, but I've seen enough horror movies to know that's not a good idea.

"Are there that many movies revolving around the gathering and studying of flora?" Jade's eyes sparkle with interest, bypassing your evasion of his invitation out into the Night Raven College forest.

His latest hiking backpack was overfilled with examination and excavation tools, notepads for sketching, as well as his own small canteen, pot and firestarter for when it was time for a snack. He doesn't look the least bit intimidating, of course not. He merely wishes to impart upon you the bounty of the mountainside.

"Perhaps you would be so kind as to explain to me how these movies you have on land would portray an excursion such as this?" He reaches out a hand with his usual perfect smile. "Oh, and I know the perfect place to do so. I found a quaint cabin in the woods recently..."

Jade, just letting you know there is a shark in the Monstro Lounge's aquarium tank and its scaring the customers (myself included)! I'm way too scared to go in there!

"Not to worry, dear customer." Jade shakes his head from the host's podium at the entrance to the Mostro Lounge.

"The shark you see lazily floating around in the waters around Octavinelle is a rather spoiled one. I believe a few of my dormmates have taken to nicknaming it Bruce. Quite endearing of them, is it not?"

He steps out from behind the podium and knocks on the glass of the underwater hallway where the queue would wait for a table in the Lounge. It's only a few heartbeats before a large shark appears, responding to the sound. It runs into the glass, rolling like a dog against it as if showing off for all the students waiting in line. Screams and squeals clatter down the hallway as a few see and notice the shark in close proximity.

Jade can't help but chuckle. "See?"

You stand there in stunned silence. No, that didn't help assuage your fears whatsoever.

My aunt once ate mushrooms from her rotting bathroom. The dog wouldn't eat it. Fun fact: there are cases of plants growing in bathtubs because of soaps and scrubs with seeds.

"Fascinating." Jade nodded along with your story. "Mushrooms are rather resilient, are they not? They grow and thrive in such bizarre environments.

"And thank you, you've given me such food for thought." Jade chuckled, heading to his closet to fetch his lab gear. "If it is at all possible to grow my mushrooms even closer to my room, instead of at the alchemy workshop, I would most definitely like to attempt to do so."

As he leaves to fetch his mushrooms, you wonder how Floyd would react to coming back to seeing their bathroom overrun by mushrooms. You figure you should slink out before he shows up and you find yourself in hot water.

🐙 “Jade, I’ve returned from the City of Flowers. Here. a loving souvenir from your generous dorm leader :))”

"Welcome back, Azul. As you can see, we are still in one piece, despite you abandoning us." There was no light behind Jade's eyes, an easily forced smile gracing his lips. A crash rumbles loudly from the kitchens behind him. "Well, almost one piece. Floyd has been in quite the mood ever since you left us to go galivanting in the City of Flowers. I'm afraid that did not go over well with retaining customers, fufufu."

Azul almost angrily recoils. "What of the revenue while I was gone, then?"

"I'm sure in your infinite wisdom, you will make up for the lost profits quite quickly." Jade reassured. "More importantly, you say you've brought a gift home?"

He reaches out to the bag in Azul's hand, before his generous Dorm Leader could think better of it after hearing of what happened to his customer base while he was gone. Jade quickly unwrapped the necklace that was inside the delicate mesh bag and held it up by the cord, examining the strange lattice pattern. "Fascinating. Is there any meaning to this? Or is it just a worthless trinket?"

The smug glint that raced through Azul's glasses was not subtle at all, and Jade caught that almost immediately. There was something about the necklace, but Azul had no plans of divulging.

"Would it not ruin the mystery and intrigue to tell you?" "Or perhaps you do not know either." "If you wish to think that, fufu." "I haven't seen evidence to the contrary, fufufu." "Fufufufu." "Fufufufufu."

Floyd grumpily kicks the kitchen door open to the main floor of the lounge to see Azul and Jade passive aggressively chuckling to each other, gifts in hand. "Ugh, creepy." he muttered, giving them a wide berth as he left the lounge, suddenly forgetting why he was cranky in the first place.

How do you feel about Azul going to the City of Flowers and getting to see rare plants that you've probably never seen before?

"Heh." Jade preens with a smug grin.

"I took the liberty of researching the plants that are native in that area. Unfortunately, Azul refused to take this lovely guide that I had created for him, with sketches and depictions of rare plants from my various textbooks that he may be able to inquire about for me..."

He drops a tome on his desk, almost as thick as a textbook. He seems quite proud of his work, despite Azul spurning him.

"Fufufu, while it is utterly ridiculous and thoroughly unfair that I was not chosen to go, I am quite certain Azul will not be seeing any rare flora that would pique my interest. Alas, those went extinct quite a long time ago... I'm sure no mage would think to revive them now..."

"Well, how could I refuse answering about myself? Fufufu..."

"Oh, well, where should I start?" Jade drags a finger down the list, picking out all the best attributes for himself.

"Of course, I suppose I must start with my looks. While my human form is mostly ordinary, I will say that my original mer form is quite fantastic. We have webbed fingers, and fins to help us swim through the currents. Our bodies are bioluminescent to help us navigate where there is no light. I believe that is rather "cool", wouldn't you say?"

He chuckles lightly before continuing. "I believe the next two go hand in hand. Most of the assumptions that have circulated the campus about me are very... Hm, shall I say, hurtful." He pretends to wipe a tear away. "That I am conniving, or mushroom-obsessed, or incendiary. I am much more than that, if only people would care to see the real me. I would much rather prefer the terms calculating, mushroom enthusiast, and inquisitive."

"Now, although Azul, Floyd and I are not joined at the hip, I will say that I have had a much more thrilling time at their side. I much prefer our dynamic, as opposed to any others I've had the pleasure of interacting with while at Night Raven College."

Jade's smile hide a myriad of silent schemes as he finishes with his finger in the bottom right corner. "As the paper says. I've never done anything wrong in my entire life. I am but a high school boy, what could I possibly do? Fufufu..."

He taps the paper with the back of his hand, finished and triumphant.

"Well, would you look at that. I seem to have gotten myself a bingo."

"Ah, yes, Pomefiore." Jade reminisces. "What a wonderful experience my brief tenure under Vil-san's wing was. I've already spoken on Rook-san here, but as for the other two..."

Vil-san

"Having stood by Vil-san's side for a short while, I was able to witness just how much of a machine he truly is. While Pomefiore seems to be viewed as the dorm for narcissists and soft-hearted individuals, it only takes one step into the life of a student there to confirm that that is not the case."

"Even if it was for my own reasons, working with Vil-san was quite an invigorating experience. I have nothing but respect for him."

Epel-kun

"Oya? Epel-kun... Oh yes, I suppose I learned a little more about that little fireball during my visit to his hometown."

"Like a chihuahua, the smallest thing can set him off yipping at your heels. How enthusiastically impulsive, and yet endearing. I'm sure we would not have gotten as far as we did in that race without his constant attention."

"Now, how entertaining would it be to if he were able to set free that fire within him more often at NRC? I'd say quite entertaining. Fufufu..."

"I suppose I may have some words for these three." Jade nodded. "Let me see..."

Riddle-san

"My, what an entertaining little fireball Riddle-san is." Jade can barely suppress a chuckle. "He is quite tame during class, as long as order is preserved, but I've had the pleasure of seeing his wrath up close before."

There is a twinkle in his eye as he recollects the time that Floyd had been blasted across the mirror chamber their first year at NRC. "With a hair trigger like that, I can't say I would ever be bored around him while in school, fufufu."

Idia-san

"Well, I cannot say that my knowledge of Idia-san is limited, but of course, I won't elaborate, that is between me and him." Jade shakes his head with a smile. "I'm sure if he could speak face-to-face instead of on a screen more often, he would be much more entertaining to interact with. I wonder how many shades of red his flames can turn? Fufufu..."

"Hm? You're saying that's not what 'too much screen time' means?"

Jack-san

"Hm? Oh, the first year from Savanaclaw." Jade places a finger on his cheek, deep in thought. "I suppose I remember him somewhat, he has quite the self-righteous posture towards everything, and even went so far as to stick his nose where it did not belong back during the exam period."

"So eager to know about my upperclassmen, I see?" Jade sighs. "Thankfully, my interactions with these two are quite minimal..."

Rook-san

Jade's eyes doesn't meet the smile that he flashes. "Rook-san, hm. Well, I suppose as a victー I mean, willing volunteer for my dish during my tenure in the Master Chef course, he was quite useful. However, I must say I do not appreciate being stared at so forcefully by him whenever we cross paths on campus.

"As an outsider, whenever I witness his interactions with his fellow Pomefiore students, or science clubmates, I do admit that I find a tad bit of joy in seeing them deal with his... overwhelming positivism."

Leona-san

"....Well, I suppose if I must say something pleasant about Leona-san is that he is quite shrewd. Other than that, I would prefer to only deal with him when absolutely necessary.

"Although we assisted him in his shallow ventures during the interdorm magical shift tournament, he repaid us by destroying all of Azul's contracts." Jade shook his head, crossing his arms with an unamused look. "I do not see why I should have any other words for such an unapologetic man."

"What a fascinating trio to lump together." Jade chuckles. "I do hope my answers prove satisfactory..."

Trey-san

Jade tucks his knuckles under his chin. "There's just something about Trey-san that I cannot put my finger on. He says that he is just a 'normal' person, but there are certain things he says and does that would suggest otherwise. Fufufu, it would be fascinating indeed to see what all he would be capable of if he were to extract himself from simply being Riddle-san's footstool."

Ace-kun

Jade cocks his head to the side. "I'm sorry, who? Oh, one of the poor anemones that came to work for us for a short while. Yes, I suppose it was a shame we could not continue to utilize him in that fashion. I almost forgot who he was, as he always seems to be paired up with that other first year Heartslabyul student and the troublesome pair from Ramshackle, fufufu."

Jamil-san

"Jamil-san had quite the fiasco back during winter break, and we were only happy to help." Jade can't help but chuckle lightly. "He does seems to exude an aura of ambivalence and apathy to those around him, yet after our close encounter with him, it's easy to see that he only wished to be recognized. A pity. He could be so much more if he was not so focused on Kalim-san."

"Why, this looks quite amusing. Although the wording of a few of these options are a bit... strange, perhaps this could entertain me for a little while."

Jade seems to be in a good mood as he glances over the sheet with a glint in his eye.

"Yes, I seem to be in a sharing mood. Why not send me some names of my NRC fellows and I will try to say a few words on how I feel about them."

He chuckles lightly. "I cannot promise I will be completely honest, though."

Hey, Jade, how did you take care of your teeth while you were living in the Coral Sea? Do you guys have toothbrushes down there?

"We do not have toothbrushes in the same context as land dwellers."

Jade's mouth is just wide enough for you to see his gleaming teeth, but he doesn't open it further.

"Unlike here on land, it is not as common to be stricken with cavities. Most of what we consume are raw fish and algae. As such, our teeth do not see the same decay at the same rate as humans do.

"While we do not have toothbrushes to help our hygiene, it is very common for families in the Coral Sea to have pet shrimp to help clean our teeth, mouth, and gills. We gain a clean smile, and in turn, they receive a delicious meal. It is quite the successful symbiotic relationship."

jade-san... are you afraid of heights? Hehe that's actually kind of cute. Don't worry, I'm not going to 'accidentaly' nudge you off your broom. Nooo~ I would never😏

"How can they possibly expect fish to fly??"

Jade's voice has a slight tremor to it, as best as he tries to hide it. He swallows a few gulps of air, then exhales, repeating until his land legs have returned from his last attempt at flying. His knuckles are still white from gripping his broom too much.

He fixes a beady stare at you, contemplating a retort. Finally, once his heartbeat had returned to normal, Jade places a hand on his chest and gives you a light bow with a chilling smile.

"I do hope I can provide you with the same hospitality you have shown me, when you are flailing in the depths of the ocean. Fufu..."

who do you think would make the best shoujo protagonist from your fellow pupils, jade?

"What a tricky question. I'm afraid I'm not quite familiar with the concept, so I enlisted Idia-san's help in explaining to me what exactly a 'shoujo protagonist' is."

"According to Idia-san..." He opened his notebook and tapped his pen on his cheek. "A shoujo protagonist is a bright and kind young lady with a deterministic outlook and an otherworldly energetic spunk. She lifts others up while also fighting her own demons. The best ones tend to be ditzy and naïve, relying on her cuteness and warm heart to solve everyone else's problems. Sometimes she'll have a tragic backstory. But that only makes her burn brighter. Fuheehee～!"

You close your mouth from where your jaw had dropped open. That fast speech and obsessive insight into the topic was very much a carbon copy of something Idia would say. It seems Jade had done his research.

He snaps his notebook shut with a content smile. "I'm afraid I can only think of one person who would fit this frustrating description, don't you?

"I'm sure Kalim-san would make a perfect shoujo protagonist. Fufufu..."
