Washington 2101 — Architecture
This three-story commercial building was conceived as a clear and cohesive spatial system. The project houses three retail units of identical typology, organized through a consistent structural and spatial logic that allows repetition without redundancy.
The façade is defined by a continuous glass block skin embedded within a monolithic concrete volume. While the building presents a solid and restrained exterior, light permeates through the glass block surface, producing a soft and diffused glow that shifts throughout the day. The contrast between mass and luminosity becomes the project’s primary expression.
Although the building asserts a contemporary, monolithic presence, its proportions and material restraint acknowledge the surrounding context of local residential architecture. Rather than mimicking historical language, the project engages it through rhythm, scale, and solidity — maintaining continuity without nostalgia.
Internally, each unit is conceived as an open-plan, flexible space. The layout establishes a clear circulation core while preserving a neutral and adaptable interior condition. The spatial system allows tenants to define the program according to their needs, supporting retail, studio, or hybrid commercial uses.
The project focuses on clarity, repetition, and material coherence — aligning structure, light, and spatial organization into a unified architectural statement.
