eFamily Recommends: Family Movie Night

Watching movies with my kids is fun but sometimes the movies they want to see are... how should I put it? inane? terrible? awful? mind numbing? Yeah, that’s about right.

Family Movie Night is a podcast where “Dan, Jamie, Asher, and Gwen” watch a movie then discuss it as a family. The kids have cute things to say and I enjoy listening to the adults discuss and analyze the movies.

Increasing Security

In an effort to increase security, cut costs, and simplify our platform we are retiring our custom domains feature. All families will still have a custom eFamily subdomain like https://zwickies.efamily.com. 

App usage will not be affected.

Your custom domains will continue to work for a limited time and the website will encourage you to switch to the new secure domain.

The old custom domains were not accessible via a secure SSL encrypted connection. This change will allow the your site to be more secure.

eFamily.com and iOS 8

We are working on an upgrade to the iOS app to support the new Apple release of iOS 8.  There have been reported issues of the app crashing when attempting to post photos.   Although it doesn't appear to be impacting everyone, we are working on resolving it for these fringe cases.

MyFamily.com announced on June 5, 2014 that it is shutting down its service effective September 5, 2014.  Thankfully, MyFamily.com is offering customers an option to download their data. 

We have been contacted by a number of MyFamily customers requesting that we build an import tool.

eFamily.com Powers Custom Family Domains

Do you already own a family domain?  We estimate that there are over 330,000 domains with the term "family" in the domain name.  I own a domain that fits that description (hoseifamily.com, which I've owned since 2010).  

Like many of you that also own a family domain, I could not find a reliable and useful place to power that domain.  After eFamily.com joined forces with Origami, we were able to provide customers with a family domain a destination to share photos, videos, and stories with their family members on both desktop and mobile devices.

EFAMILY COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF ORIGAMI LABS’ SOFTWARE PLATFORM

Popular online service to feature iOS and Android applications along with enhanced online capability

Fishers, Indiana – November 5, 2013 – eFamily (www.efamily.com), an online service that helps families connect, share and preserve memories via private family sites, announced today the acquisition of Origami Labs’ software platform. The web-based and mobile software applications will expand eFamily’s range of services, which have included photo, video and story sharing.

  “We are excited about the acquisition of Origami’s software,” said eFamily CEO David Hosei. “It will accelerate our business and provide the best software for families to connect with each other to share life’s experiences, no matter the distance.”

  eFamily currently has over 30,000 registered accounts, which allow families to share content online via private family sites. The service costs $5 per month (or $50 per year via a discounted annual plan) and allows unlimited users within a family’s private site.

  “The feedback we have received from our users has been extremely positive, and we know extending the eFamily service via mobile applications is going to be a big success,” said Hosei.

  eFamily’s technology upgrade features mobile applications for Android and iPhone as well as state-of-the-art infrastructure including RackSpace cloud-based hosting, Amazon S3 storage and content backups for consumers through Dropbox.
