Spinning slightly on his chair, Jim was giggling as he watched his pray get toward the Underground station. Good choice, he was thinking. Fiddling his phone he was wondering when he’d send him a small message… Hm, better wait for the right moment, when Q would simply think he has won the race. The oyster card was another reason that made Jim love London so much. It was so easy to hack the system and get the traveling infos one wanted. To get Q’s could be a bit tricky although Moriarty’s hackers were well-trained.
The henchmen followed, of course. They didn’t get an abort order, but knew the prey would get infos by seeing them. The plan was to dispatch in different cars, not giving too much to him. Acting like anyone in the crowd was also risk as the prey could try and loose them. Jim was confident though.
They were hot on his trail. There was absolutely no hiding the sinking feeling in his stomach when he noticed a pair of eyes locked on him from the other end of the car. They planned to continue following him no matter where he went or what he did. Fieldwork was never Q’s specialty. One second of confusion or second thoughts and they’d get him. They’d swoop in and take him like a bird of prey. Finding out what they wanted would prove to be difficult as well seeing as he wasn’t extremely intimidating either.
For now, he’d play it safe: keep walking, stay with the crowds, make sure that wherever he was, there was someone there to bare witness should anything go horribly wrong. If he had to go all night like this, he would. The fear of turning to head home would ultimately get him killed.
While Q. may have cared more about the pen than he did actually meeting one of his Russian ‘friends’, what he might not have noticed was that he was barely LISTENING to him. Instead he was busy prepping for his venture out again, making sure his Walther was fully loaded and secured. Only when his PREPARATIONS were complete did he turn back to him and nod with one of his familiar smiles. “Excellent. Well, you sort that, and then shall we visit him?”
“Pardon? You mean... right this instant?” Had he not been listening? Preparations should’ve been looked over in grave detail. One thing out of place and they might not be prepared for even the most minute complications. They had to be absolutely certain that everything was in order. It was partially OCD but the other half of his concerns were out of fear. They weren’t prepared the last time and look where it got them. “I-- I hate to say this... but... are you sure this is good idea?”

It was late, of course he knew that. Sleep wasn’t something he could afford right now what with his mind wrapped around work. When wasn’t it. Nowadays he was nervous-- that’s an understatement --he was panicking, albeit internally. He nearly jumped when he felt a pair of dainty yet calloused hands running themselves over his shoulders and down his chest. She was awake? Hadn’t she gone to bed hours ago?
“Don’t tell me I’ve woken you.”
Moriarty had a well-trained team. His henchmen knew how to disturb the target’s mind by walking at the same pace, making different noises or no noise at all. Three, five, one, it would be hard for the man in front of them to know exactly how many they were unless he turned around. They knew they get lost at some point. Moriarty also knew that was what Q would try to do. So he asked for back ups on roofs. His men would relay to keep an eye on him until he reaches his destination. Meanwhile, Jim would simply hack the CCTV, sit back and enjoy the show.
There wasn’t much he could do where he was. Without eyes on every street corner, a laptop before him, and total control; he was as good as dead and exposed. The feeling of a lack of safety definitely set him on edge. Then again, when he thought back on it, this was nothing more than a test. He was good at test that involved straining the mind in order to expand up it’s knowledge and current abilities, so how was this any better. He knew how to solve situations from behind a desk or in a chair, so now was a chance to evaluate and solve a situation firsthand.
The only real idea that came to mind would be to take the Underground. It would busy at this time of night and would close off the space between him and his pursuers. Perhaps he might even be able to get a good look at them if they were trapped on a train together. That’s what he’d do, and that’s what he headed for.

“Quite a sight isn’t it--” Police cars by the dozen were shooting down the way. “--such a shame the sound of crime is becoming daily ambience.”
❝We WILL be together. I promise. Cross my heart.❞ And to show how much she meant it, she did draw an invisible ‘x’ over her chest – accompanying it with a smirk she hoped was as charming as she intended. After all the trouble Q had gone through to seek her out, she intended to reward him with a long stretch of her being stationary. No traveling for at least two months – just research she could take care of safely from London.
❝After this mess of an expedition; I honestly need a break. Plus, the manor still needs to be restored. What do you say, Quent’? Want to spend the next few months making home improvements and renovating a 16th century manor?❞
While she waited for his answer, she hunched her body over his once more and pressed an affectionate kiss to his temple. ❝Let’s turn that stuffy old estate into our HOME– ours.❞
“Ours---” The word is repeated, almost in reassurance. Is that really something they could look forward to? A home? Together? Of course, sleeping at one another’s places wasn’t exactly official. To actually move in-- it’d be slapping a label on what they already had. It was officiating what they were together. “I’d... I’d like that.”
With a bit of a shiver, he settled down into her lap once more, preventing himself from reaching to wrap his arms around her. The state of the audience they had was frightening enough. If he did one thing to push them over the edge, they might resort to dragging him about again.
“I’d like to go home...”

“What can I say, darling? People pleasing is my livelihood. And I would just hate to think I had lost my touch.” It seemed the game was still afoot and Irene couldn’t be happier. He presented to her an intricate challenge, like discovering an antique puzzle box. Of course there was a method of solution, but it would take considerable time and effort, both of which (as luck would have it) she had to spare. “Perhaps we should make this a standing appointment. Take some time out of our busy schedules to get a little dinner, some drinks. It might possibly do wonders for your social skills. Not to mention I must admit to rather enjoying your company. It isn’t often I feel challenged in a conversation.”
“Are you asking we do something like this again?” The word date wasn’t something he’d use because denying it was the easiest method of coping with the possibility. “I wouldn’t turn down another opportunity to test each other’s genius, if that’s what you’re asking.”
Having her as a companion was unlike any form of social engagement he had experienced. Her manner of conversation was intelligent, unlike a lot of the people he knew.
“But overall, I would be interested in doing this again. Dinner and drinks sounds like a wonderful idea.”

Another kiss caressed his lips before she rested her forehead again his own, a smile on her lips despite it all.
“As long as we’re together....” If he could help it, he’d rather not have to run through the jungle again. His anxiety ran through the roof and he felt close to passing out cold with every step. Maybe it was fear, maybe it was adrenaline, but no matter what it was, he would rather not go through it again. Slender fingers trace circles on the backside of her hand. Slowly the circles evolved into various other shapes until he was positive he was just tracing squiggles.
“Once we get back-- I’m sure there are plenty of things we could do together that are three hundred or so times safer than being out here. I look forward to doing each and everyone one of them so long as you want to.”
"Tsk tsk. Always one to worry, Quentin. I'm fine--I'm allowed to play around sometimes."
“Play around? You? Play around? What’s the matter... what’s wrong... Is it Sherlock? Has something happened? You’re serious-- always. What’s wrong...?”

One of the perks of government work was the ability to hack into databases and access private files. Everything on anyone was at his fingertips, including his own information. Some of that stuff no longer exists, making him truly impossible. Much of it was fabricated to ensure safety. Most if not all had to be run by Mycroft first, but he wouldn’t share that with a single soul.

Intelligence often attracts intelligence and it seemed of little surprise that he had named his cats after two of the greats. Looking closely, she could see the flicker in his eyes as he sipped on his drink, one eyebrow lifting as she fought to hide her amusement. He was even more inexperienced than she had first believed. Pressing her lips together, she traced a manicured finger around the rim of her glass. “You flatter me a great deal. I must admit that you are quite the enigma yourself. There are more layers to you than first meets the eye. In truth it’s delightful, I cannot remember the last time I had such pleasant company,”
“Well I’m certainly glad to hear it. It’s not often I find the time to go out like this. In fact, I should be the one singing praises. This is proving to be more fun than I had expected.”
In all honesty, he hadn’t expected much to begin with. The belief was that it would be more of a battle to keep himself heavily guarded, but things seemed to be turning out for the better. He was able to share minute details about himself while being able to hide some of the more important facts that was best left unsaid while at the same time learning about how she functioned. Her conversational skills were intriguing and had him yearning to continue on. Not once had he ever enjoyed hearing someone else talk as much as himself.
