❝ I thought the world of you. I thought we were going to fight side-by-side forever. ❞

♔—- “I’m not entirely sure how many times I have to tell you that–” Loki hissed at the strange woman, though, as her words finally sunk in, the anger in his blazing, azure eyes faded for a moment and his train of thought faltered. Although he couldn’t remember Lara due to whatever Odin had done to erase his memories once they retrieved him from Midgard, there was an extreme nagging in the back of his mind.
He did know this woman and, for some reason, her insinuation that they lost something so meaningful felt like a jab at his heart.
The Mind Gem brushed against the inside of his mind, assuring him not to listen to the woman, that he words were meaningless, but he had to wonder… Why was the stone so desperate to make Loki overlook a woman that he already convinced himself was not worth listening to? Why did the gem feel so threatened by this tiny woman standing before him with a deep sadness and a strong ferociousness in her eyes?
Loki took a step back, followed by another. The grip he held on the scepter loosened and the weapon fell point-first towards the ground. The Mind Gem’s brightness intensified, obnoxiously so, as it tried to reassert its presence in Loki’s mind, but Loki wasn’t listening to her anymore. For the first time since Thanos turned the scepter on Loki’s heart, he was rejecting her influence over him rather than accepting her sweet whispers and clinging to her positive reinforcements.
The azure color of his eyes faded, fluctuating back to its normal emerald for a moment. For several more, the color switched back and forth several times as the gem attempted to ease Loki back under her control and Loki pulled himself away from her. He finally let go of the scepter and it clattered to the floor as he grabbed hold of his head with both of his hands. He wasn’t sure if the pain was physical or not, but it felt like his mind was being ripped in two. Falling forward, Loki landed on one knee, clenching his head as if holding it together.
A scream of agony ripped from his lips, perhaps the first genuine thing to come out of his mouth since appearing on Midgard.
It didn’t stop. For several long moments, his tormented cries rang out as proof of the unseen trauma he faced until, finally, he fell silent.
As he looked up at Lara, his eyes finally shown their normal, natural emerald color.
