hiii just wanted to say i love your blog sm! it was one of my earliest introductions to the furby community like 5 years ago i think and it really grew my love for furbies. i’ve loved being able to see all your furbventures over time.

also i used to live probably 45 minutes away from you and i thought it was so cool when i would sometimes see pictures of your furbs in places i went too often, especially since furby fans are so rare to find in person (i still haven’t seen many even though i’ve been in the community a while)

anyway yeah thank you for having this blog ig? idk :)

I am so happy that you’ve enjoyed this blog, it’s been a real treat to have a place to share my weird hobbies at. I think this is one of the nicest things anyone’s ever said to me about all this.

I forget how long I’ve been doing this blog lol. I know I haven’t posted in a real long time but I’m still here!! Eggbert and the gang aren’t going anywhere. Thanks all to those following along!

I hope the furby house is structurally sound enough for these renos!! Those look like some important walls, I would hate for it to tumble down after all the love put into it

Hey there!! Thanks for checking in! The house is actually extremely sturdy lol. Everything is held together with pocket screws, wood pegs, and wood glue. The thing is actually pretty heavy and annoying to move sometimes. Because of all the effort put in to building it soundly, and because furbies weigh like nothing, I am pretty certain it should be totally fine. If not, you’re welcome to tell me “told ya so!!”. Also I’m pretty confident I could fix it if necessary! And if I can’t, I got pals who can.

Okay also because apparently I can post again:

Peach and Skywalker got some work done! I dyed Peach with red and pink paints, so they’re now this kind of pretty mottled peachy coral, and I painted their face and lashes to match. They are a very pretty baby!

Skywalker got his face painted! I took a really long time to try to paint the sparkle stars on his lids lol. But next I plan to swap out his eyes for some custom ones I’m planning that will have nebula or something in ‘em.

I renovated the craft room in the furby house, because I was tired of how beige-y the room was. So here’s Jam and Goose chillin. I still need to hang stuff up on the walls in there but:

I have a much larger renovation planned! I’m going to knock out the walls seen here marked with red Xs. The kitchen will be expanded, and the living room will be too. Besides making these rooms larger, this will also make a little bit more space available for the furbies to hang out in. I am also debating changing the patio space and the rooftop lounge again. And Eggbert is probably gonna get new wallpaper, or perhaps he’ll move his office to the room above the living room.

I’m pretty stoked about this. I am also ALMOST DONE with my masters thesis revisions, and once I get that squared away and submitted I will be done with that degree and have more time to work on the house! Then I’ll need to get to packing all the furbs up to move to where I’ll be doing my PhD, but I’m looking forward to tooling around with this in the meantime.

Goose got a makeover!

So I got Goose a while back from @furbbish. Goose has clearly been well-loved in a past life, which I think is the best feature a furby can have. He is super scraggly and disheveled, and when he decides to turn on (he is picky about batteries???) his speaker is all kinds of messed up and he just says gobbledygook until he freezes. So, I decided to lean into how much of a mess Goose is all the time and gave him droopy lids. After that I thought blue paint would look good, and I kind of ended up painting them to look tiedyed after much indecision. Now I just need to make him some accessories. Yay Goose!!

HELLO!

So I was given an owl furby by a friend who happened to have one in their basement (???)!!I’ve named them Jam! Jammy Berry!!!

I also decided to try a couple things-

Cutie beaks! I see yall doing it a lot and it’s so cute!! I also got a dremel tool for my bday last December and I am now unstoppable. And I decided it was time to give it a go. Jam got his first, and then Red in the last photo got hers the following day (today lol). They aren’t perfect but that’s okay with me!

I dyed Jam with rit dye synthetic! Peacock green, I used the entire bottle. Furby fur is either polyester or acrylic, the prior is especially difficult to dye. To prevent burning or melting, I got the dye bath boiling, turned off the heat, and stirred in Jam’s pelt. Let it sit for a while, removed his skin and started again. Worked pretty okay! Not as dark as expected but I am very keen on this jade green. The faceplate was also dyed, which is excellent.

Anyways, after the success of everything, I painted both Candy Apple Red and Jam. I’ll admit that Jam’s eyelids are a little inspired by a certain Daisy!!

Meeting of the minds at my desk. I am currently trying to finish my thesis and wrapping up my research for my masters degree. The gang are all still doing their thing, and this silly group keeps me company while I work. Also, the ladybug furby here isn’t Strawberry!! My bff gave me this lil guy after I presented a seminar discussing some of my research!!! I haven’t thought of a name yet.

I am hoping that I can spend more time on this stuff in the spring/early summer this upcoming year. I know for sure that I’ll need something positive to work on and think about with all this bullshit happening right now. Ugh.

I guess on a positive note I’ve been invited to do a PhD at another university so that’s cool.

What have I been up to???

Not much. Been busy sciencin’ and haven’t had the bandwidth to work on the furby house, so here’s a photo of my science pals that keep me company while I work. The McDonald’s furb is excellent for sending reaction clips to my science pals lol.

Progress!

Goose for scale and also because he’s cute. I have some spackling that I’m gonna put in a pastry bag to pipe behind and around the fireplace to make it look more attached, and then I’m still tooling around with figuring out the best way to make the new shag carpet I’m planning. Then I have a couch to make. The never ending prooo-o-jeect!!!

Current state of affairs:

I’ve been super busy with grad school because I graduate this fall, which means I have to be done with all of my research and thesis and everything by November. So, the furbyhouse has just been sittin like this for a while now. The orange room is about to be renovated AGAIN because I’ve decided it needs a back wall plus the fireplace needs to be installed, and I want to reposition where it’ll go.

Anyways, I guess I just wanted to say hi to y’all and show the state of the furbyhouse as it sits waiting to be worked on again. It’s always okay to put a project down for a while.

I just want to show you guys something I’ve been working on for the furbyhouse:

A fireplace!!! It’s not painted nor actually installed- I think I’m gonna reposistion the flooring and close off the back with a brick wall that the fireplace will be attached to. Does that make sense? Idk lol. As for painting it- it will stay white and I’ll add some black in the firebox so it looks used. Then I just gotta put things in the shelves. I’m calling it an ofrenda-style fireplace because that’s what it’s reminding me of. Maybe it will get some color in the tiny shelf above the firebox. Ah I guess we’ll see. Anyways, I’ve been working really hard on this (it’s in fact a version 2!) and just wanted to share and see what people think. Thanks for taking the time to look!

It’s Valentine’s Day which is a weird day but I thought as a tumblr elder I’d drop some relationship advice/related Larklore (lol that’s me, Lark the 34y/o furby wranglin’ entomologist).

As some as you know, I have this wonderful partner who is low key obsessed with the fact that I am so obsessed with furbies. Prior to this I was engaged to someone who at best tolerated this hobby - which at the time I thought was the best level of support I could get for something so frivolous (lol go to therapy). So here’s the thing: a good partner will be supportive of your hobby no matter how weird/how little they may understand it, simply because they value you. They see how much that hobby means to you, and get excited with you about it. They value your hobby by proxy because they see how happy it makes you. This should be a bare minimum kinda thing. And obviously this is a reciprocal kinda thing too.

You don’t have to have a partner, you don’t need to have a partner. But should you choose to seek one out, find a partner who celebrates your weird self and your hobbies. They don’t have to understand it, but they should at the very least respect it.

The bumblebee furb was a bday gift from my partner, and (last night actually) he gave me the furby vday basket. The furb has been named Igon Telescope Skywalker, which is a few of my partners interests crammed together into a name that started as kinda a joke. Which is the best way to name a furby sometimes.

Hey what’s Noble been up to?

Glad you asked! Or well I’m sure most people weren’t asking but TOO BAD this is my blog and now you have to LOOK AT THIS FURBY.

Noble lives at my partners shop, and is currently modeling glass pendants. He also can be found elsewhere sometimes, but he is enjoying his most recent gig. I keep telling him he can move home to the furby house at any time, but he is happy where he is.

(You’ll get some crazy bonus points if you know where he works, but please dm me as opposed to commenting the location if you’d like to guess.)

Some furby house updates:

This is just the never ending project. I can’t seem to work on a room without taking another apart. I dug out some old mostly rement miniatures for the kitchen, redid the closet/storage/laundry room, and completely redid the outdoor space!! I also currently have a fireplace I sculpted out of air drying clay still setting. I’ll admit that I am debating remaking the orange room- I can no longer get any more of the existing wallpaper, which is a scrapbooking paper, and I was planning on closing off the back of that room. I also took apart the middle courtyard lol. Anyways, hope the furbyverse has been well!

Obvs I need to figure out a faucet for the sink. Also, shelves above the sink? Oh and I’ll get some daytime photos with furbs tomorrow or something too. But I am stoked about this project and needed to share. Yeehaw!

Lol sometimes ya gotta start over on a project.

After a lot of consideration I scrapped the old tiles, replaced em with these orange ones, did a warm tone wash over the pink because it was too cool a shade (plus now it really looks like lime wash or something), and I ripped out the kitchen counters and rebuilt em so they’re L-shaped and built out of wood.

Late night update:

Today I figured out that painted adhesive craft foam sheets make nice tiles. I def made some miscalculations tho so I did have to cram lil bits of foam tiles around the edges but I think I’ll just put some baseboard in and that will pretty much cover it. Noice. My bff also came over tonight and we painted tiny paintings for the furb house too!! Yay!! I’m lookin forward to someday having this room done. I just need to decide how I’m gonna do the cabinets and appliances now.
